SBI3C0: Cell Part and Function Chart

Cell Part P,A or Function – brief description
                           Both
Extracellular fluid Both -water based solution outside the cell
Cytosol Both -water based solution where organelles are suspended
                                   inside the cell
Cell membrane Both - controls movement into and out of the cell and holds
                                   contents of cell together
Cell wall P - provides plants rigidity while allowing materials to
                                   pass through
Nucleus B - the control centre of the cell (the brain)
Nuclear envelope B - separates nucleus from the cytoplasm
Nucleoplasm B - mixture of chemicals that stores information used by
cell organelles to carry out their function.
Ribosomes B - produce proteins. Float in the cytoplasm or attached
                                   to membranes.
Rough E.R B - system of membraneous tubes and canals with
attached ribosomes where proteins are proteins.
Smooth E.R B - system of membraneous tubes and canals where fat
molecules are produced. (no ribosomes are attached)
Vesicles B - stores the products of the ER and carry products to
golgi apparatus. Releases contents to the extracellular
                                   fluid.
Golgi B - chemically changes the fats and proteins produced in
apparatus/body the ER and packages them into vesicles for transport
                                   outside of the cell.
Lysosomes A - digest food particles and destroy dangerous
                                   microorganisms.
Mitochondria B - where cellular respiration occurs and the cells use
the compounds as a source of energy
Chloroplasts P - contains chlorophyll and carries out photosynthesis
Vacuoles P - where turgor pressure occurs in plant cells.
