           What is Biodiesel?
 Biodiesel is the name of a clean burning
    alternative fuel, produced from domestic,
    renewable resources. Biodiesel contains
no petroleum, but it can be blended at any
level with petroleum diesel to create a
biodiesel blend. It can be used in
    compression-ignition (diesel) engines with
    little or no modifications.
 Biodiesel is made through a chemical process
called transesterification whereby the glycerin is
separated from the fat or vegetable oil. The
process leaves behind two products -- methyl
esters (the chemical name for biodiesel) and
glycerin (a valuable byproduct usually sold to be
used in soaps and other products).
 It is less toxic than table salt and
biodegrades as fast as sugar. resources
such as soybeans, its use decreases our
dependence on foreign oil and contributes
    to our own economy.
 Some examples of what could be used as
biodiesel are corn, soybean, and even
    algae
Comparison between Biodiesel and
           Gasoline
 Energy content per gallon: 109,000-
  125,000 Btu
 Main source: Gasoline is made from crude
oil while biodiesel is made from soybean
oil, waste cooking oils, yellow grease, any
  vegetable oil
 Environmental impacts of burning fuel:
  Gasoline produces harmful emissions
while biodiesel reduces pollutant by 50-
  100%,
 Current price: gasoline is about $3.29 a
gallon while biodiesel is $1.85 a gallon
 In terms of law and legislation, the nation
has been passing bills to encourage the
use of biodiesel, regardless of what the oil
    companies want
 Congress has put in place a number of tax
incentive programs that positively impact the
biodiesel industry such as Small Agri-Biodiesel
Producer Tax Credit and Alternative Fuel
    Refueling Infrastructure Tax Credit
 Biodiesel cost very little to make. In most cases
you can make top quality biodiesel for US $0.50
to US $0.90 per gallon, all manufacturing costs
    factored in.
 The only real special need that biodiesel
still needs is that more biodiesel pumps
    are needed.
