CD-RW Format Instructions
CD-Read Write disks (CD-RWs)
CD-RWs must be formatted before they can be used. To format a CD-RW:
1. Insert the CD it into the CD-RW drive
2. Click Start | Programs | Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 | Applications | DirectCD Format Utility.
3. Click the Format CD button. A window will appear.
4. Fill in the Label box with a name for the CD.
5. Ensure that Full-Format is selected and Enable Compression is not selected.
6. Click Start Format. It will take about 1 hour and 15 minutes for the format operation to complete
even though the application will indicate that a shorter period of time is to be expected.
7. Upon format completion, close the DirectCD application and all of the windows that are
associated with it.
8. You may now use the CD-RW just as you would a floppy disk by copying and deleting files on
the CD from the File Explorer application.
CAUTION: CD-RWs are a relatively volatile storage medium and should not be used as the primary
archiving media for your important documents! They may be used for moving large files from one
computer to another or for making backups but they should not be the ONLY place where information is
stored.
NOTE: Remember, CD-RWs should be reformatted periodically; they may suddenly start generating
errors. This is normal. A reformat of the CD-RW makes it work properly again.
Music CDs
When you're ready to copy music or software CDs or just burn a few tracks on a CD-R, contact one of us
for instructions. You will need to make several adjustments, including disabling the virus software, to burn
this type of CD successfully.
