									The Sop and the betrayal:

   1. Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of
this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end...

5. After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel
wherewith he was girded. 15. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.

16. Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that
sent him.
( Do u wonder why he brought this topic up? of servant hood? Hum the bible saids they were all arguing over who
would be the big shot in Gods kingdom, all the while Jesus is hurting, burdened, and broken but they were to busy to
with their own desires and ambitions to notice his pain or needs. Notice vs. 21 )

8. I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread
with me hath lifted up his heel against me.

( Ah nothing like being betrayed by a friend! A brother? a sister? a pastor? )
 21. When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that
one of you shall betray me.
22. Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake.
 24. Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, that he should ask who it should be of whom he spake.
 26. Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he
      gave it to Judas
27. And immediately after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly.

( ever wondered why it wasn’t until after the sop that Satan entered Judas?
You see Satan can’t have you nor sift you until God has let go of you! Jesus was reaching for Judas
thru the Sop.
For the sop represents honor and acceptance we shall speak more on this later.)
Another point to consider is that the scriptures say that immediately after being rebuked by the Lord
Jesus.
Judas went out and sought opportunity to betray him!
I wonder if many of us are the same towards our leaders who have to correct us?
Do we always look for sin or fault on their part, for a chance to criticize them, condemn them or
persecute them?
34. A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you,
35. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
18. And thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight of the Lord: that it may be well with
thee

Reflections scripture thought or theme:

Isn’t it amazing how Jesus never lost focus of his divine purpose in life, despite all the things that happened
to him he refused to give in to hopelessness and despair.
He refused to follow in the same path of those who ridiculed and mocked him, who fought and resisted
him, who cursed and abused him.
Instead he took each and every situation and circumstance and made the best of it! He looked for purpose
and benefit even in the bad realizing that

“ the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy but that “ Jesus came that we might have life and have it
abundantly”

Life at times is a matter of perspective. We can become bitter or better, we choose to either love as he
would or hate as the devil would.
Notice what Jesus did with Judas right up to the point of his betrayal?
He gave him the Sop, well it might help if we know the significance of the sop, you see in Jewish tradition
the Sop is a very significant custom.

The Sop is a combination of a pc. bread dipped in a special sauce and it is given at the time of the meal to
all respected guest of the home, but the significance is in to whom it is given to first!
For the very first person to receive the Sop is considered the most highly honored person of that home?
Hence what was Jesus saying by giving the Sop to Judas?
He was saying Judas I know you are going to betray me, to cause me the most humiliating and painful
death one could ever imagine.
You are going to break my heart and grieve me, you will reject me and spite me, but I choose to love you
still! I choose to honor you.

I choose to forgive you! to reach for you one more time, but it was to no avail Judas like some others was
to hardened and stubborn.
He did not repent, but chose to rebel and hold a grudge remember it was Judas who complained when the
alabaster box was used to wash Jesus feet, and it was JESUS who rebuked him!

Again notice: the bible saids immediately after the sop Satan entered Judas why not before the Sop?
Because up to the time of the Sop Jesus was still reaching for Judas, hence when Judas took the Sop and
did not repent at that point Jesus let go.
That’s why it says SATAN entered Judas after the Sop, you see until Jesus lets go Satan cannot have us.
Cannot enter our hearts, ah what a struggle it must have been to honor the one who would betray him.
But that is the true test of Christianity, the test is not that other Christians or sinners for that matter love us?
But that we love them, love the unlovable, the phony, the hypocrite, the betrayer, oh it is easy to love our
brothers and sisters as long as they don’t offend us.
But oh when they do, then come’s the true test of Christ character?
How many times have we been tested only to fail?
How many times have the very people we went to the house of God with betrayed us?
People we prayed with? people we ate with? I’m sure we all can find our place here at one point or
another? As both the betrayed and the betrayer? But thanks be to God for his abundant mercy!
Thanks for the Sop! “ for God is faithful and just to forgive if we confess”

( There is a difference between Gods kind of forgiveness and the worlds forgiveness, one restores while
the other evades & avoids true restoration, one appeases the flesh while the other appeals to faith!)

Now for a prayer:

Dear Father, oh Daddy how we need you so much!
Things seem so hard some times, so difficult to understand.
How you could allow some things to happen to us.
We pray Jesus that you would teach us ur ways, ur love, ur truth.
Have ur way with us, show me ur tender mercies that I would likewise be merciful to others,
teach me to honor others, to trust in your divine providence.
Oh how often we feel the pain of betrayal it is so hard daddy to forgive, & to understand that
there is an enemy working in and behind those who offend & hurt us, remind us that we are
not alone!
Remind us that our enemies are not always in control, that it is not so much their doing as it
is the work of Satan, who comes to destroy.
No they are not excused from the wrong they do but it is you who is the judge and you will
repay! But we hope in ur mercy!
Daddy we want to honor you, we want to not betray you, we praise and honor your name
you are Jesus Lord of Lords and king of kings!
The Mighty God in Jesus! Jesus please help us! I will speak on behalf of my family as well
as myself, we love you so much!
We love ur word, we love ur truth, we love & want ur will even though it may seem so hard
some times to accept it, to understand it, help us to trust in you!
Please Dad we sometimes lack the courage and humility to do what is right, cover our fears
and pride in ur perfect love!
Give us the wisdom and understanding to accept your word for us at face value.
Let us know what is important is not what others want or say but what we need! Jesus to
have full control!
And to You my precious Lord I long to give you the Sop that you so much deserve from my
heart, from my soul, from the deepest part of me I wish to honor you, to love you, to hold
you, to care for you, to support you, to brings smiles once again to you! AMEN!
