Learning and Assessment Coordinator
POST REF: 13547
LOCATION OF THE POST WITH THE COLLEGE STRUCTURE:
The post holder will be a member of the Hospitality & Catering and Travel & Tourism
Department which is based within the14 – 19 Curriculum Directorate predominantly based at
the Huddersfield Centre.
REPORTS TO:

OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE POST:
To develop a portfolio of work place provision which is responsive to employer needs and to
grow target numbers and income in the key areas of Hospitality and Catering to include
apprenticeships, work place learning, customised commercial training and short course
provision.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
In the first instance, your duties and responsibilities are listed below including the critical
success factors relating to the post. As the needs of the College change, you will be
expected to take on or drop responsibilities as directed by the Head of Department.
Role Specific Responsibilities:
1) To develop partnerships between the college and employers within Yorkshire and
beyond.
2) Plan and manage physical and human resources effectively to ensure that they are
utilised efficiently, deliver on time and within budget.
3) Plan, design and develop provision to ensure the achievement of targeted growth within
the programme area set against targets provided.
4) To undertake work based assessment of learners as agreed with the Head of
Department.
5) To deliver off the job training and assessment in a practical setting and formal,
classroom based teaching as required.

6) To develop, market, deliver and evaluate customised full cost recovery courses
delivered to employers in conjunction with the Business and Development Training Unit
7) To deliver higher level qualifications as required.
8) To develop agreed programmes, ensuring that they meet all Awarding Body and Quality
Assurance requirements, as well as the needs of learners and employers.
9) To, in conjunction with the LAO’s, co-ordinate relevant inputs into overall framework
delivery.
10) To participate in and contribute to delivery team development and planning activities.
11) To assist in the recruitment of learners and employers.
12) To ensure learners receive appropriate initial assessment and induction.
13) To provide appropriate support and guidance to learners.
14) To track, monitor and review learner progress and achievement against Individual
Learning Plans
15) To monitor health and safety pre-vetting and monitoring of employers, including Risk
Assessment and Accident Investigation and Reporting.
16) To attend Careers conventions, including evenings as required.
17) To negotiate with employers work shadowing opportunities for catering lecturers as part
of a professional updating programme
18) To undertake the full range of administrative duties associated with the post.
19) To contribute towards the effective delivery of Funding Body contracts, particularly with
a view to maximising income and performance.
20) To contribute towards the effective functioning and development of any team of which
one is a member.
21) To carry out agreed curriculum area Course Team duties as required (e.g. tutorial,
learner progress review and action planning, learner discipline, attendance and
timekeeping).
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The post holder is required to:
1) Perform his/her duties in accordance with the College’s Equality Policy, undertaking
mandatory training as required by the College.
2) Show a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young
people and vulnerable adults, undertaking mandatory training as required by the
College.
3) Demonstrate a commitment to the College’s values and behaviours of Respect,
Challenge, Diversity, Celebrate and Innovate.
4) Ensure the health and safety of all staff and resources within his/her area(s) of
responsibility, i.e. delegated responsibility in relation to the nature of the post holder’s
duties and personal responsibilities as per Sections 7 and 8 of the Health and Safety at
Work Act 1974.
5) Participate in the College’s Performance Management Review Scheme.
6) Undertake Continuous Professional Development (CPD) relevant to his/her post.
7) Demonstrate commitment to the College’s whole organisational approach to improving
standards of literacy, numeracy and language in line with the national Skills for Life
Strategy and the College’s in-house Skill Up programme.
8) Perform any other duties as may be reasonably required from time to time by the
Principal and Chief Executive, through the Head of Department.

change and pressure where an amount of personal decision-making and judgement is
required.

The post holder must have the ability to work with a wide range of people of all ages from
very different backgrounds with very different needs and to respond accordingly to support
those needs.
The duties and responsibilities attached to this role demand a flexible approach to work,
which will include occasional evenings and very occasional Saturdays.
The post holder will be required to adhere to a dress code as directed by the Head of
Department.
The post holder will be required to sign and return to the Human Resources department a
copy of their job description, which will be reviewed annually as part of the College’s
Performance Management Review Scheme.

Salary:
The salary for this post will be points 35 - 36 within Scale PO1 of the pay scales for Business
Support staff, which is £29,455 - £30,216 per annum.
Conditions of Appointment
Appointment will be to a contract with Kirklees College working to Business Support Staff
terms and conditions of service under the following main provisions:
Working Week: The normal average working week will be 37
hours, Monday to Thursday 8.30am –
5.00pm and Friday 8.30am – 4.30pm with an
hour for lunch each day. There may be
occasions when you will be expected to work
outside these hours to meet the demands of
the job.
<Holiday Entitlement:> You will be entitled to 25 days holiday per
year plus 10 statutory/public holidays
recognised by the College plus 5 College
closure days. The holiday year runs from 1st
August to 31st July each year. Timing of
holiday is subject to agreement with your
Line Manager.
Pension: You will be entitled to participate in the West
Yorkshire Superannuation Scheme at a rate
of 6.5% of salary, with an employer
contribution of 13.1%. The Scheme requires
members to be contracted out of the State
Earnings Related Pension Scheme
(SERPS). Alternatively you may make your
own arrangements with regard to pension.
Annual Review: You will be expected to participate in the
College’s Performance Management Review
Scheme.
