Casual Recreation Assistant (Skate Park)
Salary Scale Point 6 £6.17 per hour (Subject to Job Evaluation)
We are looking for enthusiastic and flexible applicants to work as Recreation
Assistants in any Recreation/Leisure/Sports Centre. You should have
excellent customer care skills, a desire to work with the public and a mature
and responsible approach.
The hours of work will be as and when required and could include evenings,
weekends and Bank Holidays. Working within strong, committed teams, your
duties will include supervising the public, setting up and monitoring apparatus
and cleaning tasks.

essential. A National Pool Lifeguard of NARS Qualification is preferred but not

RESPONSIBLE TO: Dry Side Manager
To assist and instruct the general public in the safe usage and enjoyment of
the skate park facility.
General supervision of the public to ensure disciplined and safe usage of
the skate park equipment.
To ensure a high standard of facilities are available to all users at all times.
MAJOR ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervising and monitoring the public during use of the facilities.
Advising patrons in their activities, as and when required.
Ensuring that the facilities are prepared and maintained appropriately
Checking apparatus and setting up equipment for safe usage, reporting
immediately any defects and carrying out minor repairs with the
consent of management.
Monitoring the changing rooms regularly and other unsupervised areas
to avert vandalism and ensure that the facilities are clean for all users
at any time of the day or evening.
Assisting in the delivery and removal of all materials/equipment
required in the buildings.
Undertaking basic first aid and undergoing necessary training as
Observing all regulations covering Health and Safety at Work.
Carrying out other related duties as allocated by the Site Manager.
Owing to the nature of the work the post holder will be expected to work a
certain amount of overtime for which Payment will be made at single time
rates up to 37 hours and at the appropriate enhanced rate for hours in excess
of 37 hours.
This will be at the discretion of the Manager.
The tasks and responsibilities within this job role may vary and evolve
to meet the business needs of the service.
In any event, the job description will be formally reviewed during the
annual appraisal process.

Salary: £6.17 per hour (Subject to Job Evaluation)
Job Evaluation is the process of assessing the relative value or size of jobs
within an organisation. Jobs (not the postholder) are analysed against
common criteria to measure the content and context of the jobs people do.
All staff are eligible to join the Local Government Pension Scheme, which is
currently a final salary scheme. It is a contributory scheme, and the employee

The leave entitlement for a full year commencing on 1 st April will be 24 days.
For officers with five years continuous Local Government Service, annual

Job Title: Casual Recreation Assistant (skate park)
There are no set working hours as work is as and when required.
The normal place of work will be Bridgend Recreation Centre. However, you
will be required to work at any leisure site within the County Borough.
Any offer of appointment is subject to medical clearance. You will be required
to complete a medical questionnaire, but may also require medical
examination before appointment.
Appointment is subject to receipt of a minimum of two satisfactory references.
Wherever possible these should be from previous employers.
An enhanced Disclosure Check by the Criminal Records Bureau will be
necessary for the successful applicant, and appointment will not be confirmed
before a satisfactory disclosure is received.
New staff to Bridgend County Borough Council appointed to this post will be
subject to a 6 month probationary period.
Should you use your own vehicle for official journeys, mileage expenses will
be reimbursed based on the locally agreed rate which is currently £xxx.
