Do you know what the x-
axis and y-axis are?
 The x-axis is the horizontal axis on a grid
 The y-axis is the vertical axis on a grid
Also notice
where the origin
is. This is the
point (0,0).
When plotting points the
first coordinate is the x-
coordinate and the second
is the y-coordinate

 (x,y)
Let’s practice by plotting

When plotting the coordinate (2,4) start at
the origin and go 2 units to the right and
4 units up.
coordinates?
 Negative x coordinates are to the left of
the origin and negative y coordinates are
below the origin.
 Since the x value, 3
is negative it is
on the left side of
the origin.
