from TARUNA BAKTI JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL INDONESIA My parents once said: “We always facing differences everyday in many ways, differences make us strong and more wise” I understand after my parent tell me story about ART FOR ALL HERE IS THE STORY… The source of the pictures are from my father, A. Rikrik Kusmara. He’s the representative from Indonesia in ART FOR ALL Event in Thailand, 2005. My father is my biggest inspiration to make this project, which I would like to show. The pictures above are about ART FOR ALL, an ASEAN forum for exchange experience in handling differences especially for children with special needs through arts ART FOR ALL uses art as a vehicle for developing the skills and talents of both the disabled and non- disabled individuals. ART FOR ALL volunteers with gifted and average children along with the blind, deaf and physically or mentally impaired all take part in a diverse range of activities. They range from musical, visual and mixed media, dance, drama to literature experiences. It is through these variety of activities that they learn about cooperative teamwork, life skills, the creative process and themselves. ART FOR ALL project believes that arts activity, like drawing, painting, dancing, and singing closing each persons from difference cultural background, country, age, special needs, gender, religion into unity as human being. ART FOR ALL project shows that differences can be incorporated into accomplementary combination. Five People Together Make One Genius One blind person cannot see but has a voice to speak One deaf person cannot hear but has eyes to see One without arms or legs still has a brain to think One who is mentally challenged still has physical strength and energy to share One non-disabled unites the other four When the five become one to create To complement and compensate for what the others lack As eyes, ears, body and brain What at first seems out of reach comes true in the end NOBODY PERFECT Because … EVERYBODY HAS AN OPPORTUNITY It is about understanding each other and moving beyond simple tolerance to embracing and celebrating the rich dimensions of diversity contained within each individual. Everyone can share and enjoy the differences.
