at 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm in the Harper Great Hall. We are honored to have guest speaker
Brandon Curtis, Brophy graduate 2003, from Workshops for Youth and Families. He will
discuss tips and pointers on “10 Ways to Communicate with your Teens.” Learn how to talk
with your teen and empower them to become more confident, resilient, productive leaders
in society.

This meeting will help us teach our teens personal leadership skills and offer creative
resistance that buffer youth against negative health behaviors. The Workshops for Youth
& Families are the proud recipients of the 2008 “Be More…Humble” People’s Choice

day in LA. We will fly into the Burbank Airport and be met and whisked from the airport to the 11:00
a.m. taping of the Dr. Phil Show at Paramount Studios. We will then enjoy lunch at the
Paramount Studios Executive Dining Room where we are sure to see some of Hollywood's
most popular celebrities! From there we will enjoy a two-hour Star Home Tour to include
Beverly Hills, Bel-Air, Rodeo Drive, Sunset Strip and homes of some of the world's most
famous celebrities including tom Cruise, Ozzie Osbourne, Madonna, and Angelina Jolie just to name

                                                MOCK TRIAL! MOCK TRIAL! . . . and WOW! Xavier Mock Trial!

                                       This past weekend in Brooklyn, New York, Xavier’s Mock Trial Team competed
                                         in the Second Annual Empire City High School Mock Trial Invitational. This
                                                       year’s tournament was an international event.

                                            Xavier’s Mock Trial Team was matched against 16 of the top mock trial
                                             teams from the United States and three continents, including teams
                                                           from Australia, South Korea, and Ireland.

                                           We are proud to announce that Xavier finished in the top five, capturing
                                            4th place, missing a second place tie by ONE POINT on ONE BALLOT.

                                                                                                  Mona Higuchi is
                                                                                                     artist. She
                                                                                                      has been
                                                                                                     work since
                                                                                                  1988. Many of
                                                                                                   her artworks
                                                                                                   have focused
                                       on human rights issues and historical events, such as the Japanese
                                   American Internment, Kristallnacht, the Relocation of the Aleuts in WWII, and
                                      the Disappeared in Central and South America. The work of this Asian
                                    American artist has been exhibited in the United States, Asia, and Europe.
                                                      She is currently living in Phoenix, AZ.

                                         Parents of Juniors and Juniors Class of 2010, many of you have not turned
                                         in contracts indicating where you are or will be serving your 50 hours. You
                                           only have until the end of 3rd quarter to complete these hours. Please
                                       consider some of the following options if you do not have a place of service yet.

                                                    1. Serenity Hospice and Palliative Care Volunteer Program
                                           Hospice is comfort care for those patients who are terminally ill and their
                                               families. There is a training Sept 13, and 27 from 9am-2pm at the

                                               secure long-term, safe, decent, affordable housing and break cycles

                                           in City of Tempe facilities and programs such as the Tempe Public Library,

                                              and chronically ill infants, children and young adults in Arizona. There

                                            7. Madison Simis needs volunteers to help students create and bind their
                                               writing into books. They could use help in working with the students
                                            through author interviews and illustrating their books. The volunteers are
                                             needed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from noon to 4. They

                                            8. The National farm workers service center runs an after school program
                                         for grades K-8. It is called SI Se PUEDE center at Plaza Manuel Ortega 13613

                                             with homework. They have a class from 3:30 - 5:30 Monday-Thursday,
                                                 3:30-4:30 on Friday. They would love volunteers to come and get
