This exhibition looks at the intriguing world of the
circus and travelling fair in the work of Jack B
Yeats (1871-1957). Kokoschka became a British
citizen in 1947, and, during the last decade of
Jack B.Yeats life, a friendship and admiration
grew between the two artists. This pairing of
exhibitions highlights a shared fascination with
people and society on the margins and their
search for new forms of expression. Kokoschka’s
distinct handling of paint had a direct influence on
the developed of Yeats’ late style and in return he
championed him as one of the last great painters.

Fredrich Jahn the German Gym was privately
funded by the German émigré community in
London. One of the first purpose built facilities for
participatory sports in Britain it was used as a
venue in 1866 for the first national ‘Olympic’
games organised by William Penny Brookes and
the National Olympian Association. Brookes
activities inspired Pierre de Coubertin and he is
recognised today as the instigator of the revival of
the Olympic Games. This photography exhibition
will look at the Olympic history of athletes,
characters and high profile officials across
decades. www.camden.gov.uk/arts

Open Up/Artist Craig Coultard describes these 4.00pm
performances as “a series of lectures dredged
from Hampstead’s historical detritus”. He re-
creates stories from the area in miniature. A
series of episodes will build into a changing,
fictional narrative of Hampstead’s bohemian past.
Time and fact are stretched in equal measure so
that no two versions are ever the same. Let the
artist challenge your perception of historical
events as he retells stories from different view
points and with changing voices.

Whitestone pond was originally a small dew pond,
called the horse pond and later after a milestone;
in 1875 it was enlarged and lined by the vestry
and by 1890 artificially supplied with water. Some
small ponds on the edge of the heath near the
town disappeared after the building of the covered
reservoir near Whitestone pond in 1856. It’s said
to be probably the highest point in London. We
want to bring this back and create sailing events
to celebrate the history of the pond and bring back
“the fun” in Whitestone Pond, Also to create a

route which will be used as part of the cycle route
