   The Bible has much to say about giving...

  Jesus taught His disciples about giving...
• Kingdom requirements (Matt 5:42 Cf vs.
20).
• Paul speaks of Christ teachings (Acts
20:35).

   Paul taught about giving in his epistles…
• He commanded Christians to lay by in
store
 (1 Cor 16:1-2).
• To work to be able to give (Eph 4:28).
• To be rich in good works (1 Tim 6:17-19).
   To share with others (Heb 13:16)...

   We Must 1st Give Ourselves...
A. The Macedonian saints (2 Cor 8:1-5).
B. The offering of Christ should motivate us
to
   give ourselves to Him (2 Cor 5:14-15).
• Christians sacrifice themselves to God
  (Rom 12:1-3).
• Live each day for the Lord (Rom 14:1-9).

A. We stand ready & willing to give to others of
our

B. True religion entails true giving (Jas. 1:27).

• Benevolence (1 Cor 16:1-2; Rom 15:25-26).
• Evangelism (Phil 4:13-19; 2 Cor 11:8).
• Edification (Acts 11:22; 15:3).

A. Giving is for our benefit (Psa 50:7-14), just as
     asking id for our benefit (Matt 6:8,32).
B. Giving is not to be self-seeking…
1. We give to be rewarded by God (Matt 6:1-4

     Acts 4:35-5:11).
2. We do not give to receive form others...
     (Lk 6:30-36).
3. Giving is a spiritual act of devotion!
A. We must give willingly (2 Cor 9:7).
B. We must give diligently...
     (2 Cor 8:6-12 Cf Matt 5:33 Cf *Acts 5).

A. In the Law of Moses giving was very specific…
B. In the New Covenant giving is based on principles
C. We can used both to assist us by way of examples
1. Old Testament…
• Abraham (Gen 14:20).
• Jacob (Gen 28:20-22).
• Israel [tabernacle] (Ex 35:4-5,21,29; 36:5-7)
• David & Israel [temple] (1 Chr 29:3,9-15).
• Israel’s tithing…
•10th to the Levites (Num 18:21-28).
•10th for feast observances (Deut 12:5-18).
•10th every 3rd year for the poor (Deut 14:28-29)

• leave that which grows of itself in the 7th year
  for the poor (Ex 23:10-11).
• allow people to satisfy their hunger (Deut

4. How much specifically?
D. There are principles to guide us…
1. Give as we have prospered (1 Cor 16:1-2)…
• The example of David (1 Chr 21:20-24).
1. Give according to what they had (2 Cor 8:12-13)
• We are commanded to pay our debts (rom 13:7-
8).
• We are permitted to enjoy the fruits of our labors
 (Eccl 2:24; 3:13; 5:18 Cf 9:9 Cf 1 Tim 6:17).
1. Seek to abound in our giving…
• (2 Cor 8:7; 9:8-10).
• (Matt 5:20 Cf 23:23).

4. How much specifically?
D. There are principles to guide us…
5. Sow bountifully
• We will reap what we sow (2 Cor 9:6).
• Not for personnel gain or wealth but to please
  God (Heb 6:9-12).
5. Give purposefully (2 Cor 9:7 Cf 8:10-11).
• We must practice good stewardship…
•giving is not emotional…
•giving is reasonable (Rom 12:1-2).
5. Practical principles are to be implemented…
•As we have prospered
•as our income increases so should our giving…
•we should give the first fruits not leftovers…
•give collectively &individually…
•remember all obligations (Mk 7:8-13).

  When Should We Not Give? …
A. We should not give to those who will not work
   (2 Thess 3:10-11).
B. We should not give to secular anything!
C. We should not give to evil (Eph 5:8-11).
D. We must not give to support error…
• Those who teach false doctrine (2 Jn 9 Cf Rom
16:17-18).
• Churches that are not the Lord’s…
• churches that are not the Lord’s…
• Those who carry out or support works & acts not
 authorized by the Lord (Col 3:17)…
