In 1751, an Irishman called Mark Kirwin married Sir Collingwood’s daughter and became the owner
of the château. The property was renamed and a focus was placed on restoring the château and
elevating the quality of the wines. Mark eventually died on the property in 1815 and the family sold
the estate and the reputation of the château declined. In 1904, Kirwan was sold at auction to the
Schyler family for the bargain price of 250,000 francs. Today the same family owns Kirwan and is now
producing impressive wines and much of the credit goes to the talented proprietress, Sophie Schyler.

                        Riddoch, Coonawarra
Riddoch wines are named in honour of the founder of Coonawarra, John Riddoch, and made entirely from estate grown Coonawarra fruit. Coonawarra is a tiny
cigar shaped region in South Australia, famed for its unique Terra Rossa soils and cool climate conditions. It is often compared to Bordeaux and, like Bordeaux,
produces outstanding red wines. These two wines capture the distinctive regional characters of Coonawarra: mint and eucalypt with a fine elegant structure. First
released in 1980 and made by master winemaker Wayne Stehbens, Riddoch has won the Jimmy Watson Trophy (Australia’s most important trophy), received
14 international acclaim and has not looked back since!

       Niepoort
In 1999, the Wine Spectator commented that Niepoort had produced “some of the best Ports of the 20th Century”.
Fifth-generation winemaker Dirk Niepoort has a profound understanding of the terroirs of the Douro Valley. Small yields
from his ancient vineyards ensure that only the best grapes are grown, which are then fermented in old granite lagars before
       fortification and ageing. Highly recommended.
