Art Exhibition
In September 2012 we are holding a Become a Friend Art exhibition in the
Nanyuki Lily Pond art gallery, the theme will be ‘What Conservation Means to Me
and You’
We want to be able to display work from our English and Irish friends alongside
our Maasai and Samburu schools. This work will need to reach us here in Kenya
before the end of July to give us time to prepare the display. The age range will
include nursery through to secondary schools.
Initial ideas from Kenyan schools have included ‘Conservation means to me ….
conserving wildlife, conserving trees and plants, conserving grassland for our
cows, conserving water, conserving our elephants and rhinos due to the dangers
they are currently facing, and conservation of traditional culture’. We have a
wealth of art work ideas to work on here! Schools here would like to use Natural
Art and Three D work in addition to Fine Art… we realize that to send such work
from abroad is not feasible but can suggest that photography may be a means for
you to share such work with us.
We will have a Kenyan artist, Mathew Owino Okech to help the pupils with their
work.
We would love to hear your thoughts on this exciting project… this will be a
ground breaking exhibition- the first time that Maasai , Samburu, Irish and
English children have worked together on a public art display. We hope that this
exhibition will generate some real interest here in Kenya and we would love for
as many English and Irish schools to be represented as possible. We may be able
to work with you all on getting some of the work back to England and Ireland for
display.
