MA-Art Education Application Checklist
Admission to the University is a two-part process that requires evaluation by both the School of Art and the Office of
Admissions in Enrollment Services. All of the following materials are due on January 4th for Fall admission. Late
applications will not be reviewed.

Statement of Purpose: present your reasons for pursuing graduate study
Two Letters of Recommendation using the “Letter of Recommendation Form” at
http://www.art.csulb.edu/advising/graduate_studies/forms_for_applicants/
Digital Portfolio of studio work acceptable in the following formats burned onto a CD or DVD.
Do not attach a paper label. No thumb drives:
• Portfolio of JPEG images, no more than 20 total, and no larger than 800x600 pixels each, contained in a
folder, and accompanied by an image list as a Microsoft Word file contained in same folder as JPEGs. Clear
thumbnail images, title, medium, dimensions, and date for each work in portfolio must be provided. JPEG
portfolio must be accompanied by a printed copy of the image list on 8½ X 11” paper.
• PDF file containing portfolio of no more than 20 images total, either with captions under each image or an
image list included in the PDF. Title, medium, dimensions, and date for each work in portfolio must be
provided. PDF portfolio must be accompanied by a printed image list including clear thumbnail images,
complete with captions, on 8½ X 11” paper.
• We do NOT accept image files in formats other than JPEG or PDF. We do not accept portfolios in
PowerPoint, Keynote, or other presentation software files. We do NOT accept slides or photographs.
These and other original materials will NOT be returned to you.
• Works in film, video, or other time-based digital media, or recorded documentation of works in installation,
performance, or other time-based work may be submitted via DVD portfolio. Maximum of five videos and
maximum of ten minutes total. Longer works must be excerpted. QuickTime, Flash or Shockwave are the
acceptable formats. Standard menu-driven DVDs may be also used. DVD submissions must be accompanied
by a printed list of works that includes a thumbnail still, title, and description for each work.

14. PREREQUISITE COURSES
Prerequisites must be given in semester units. For quarter units: figure 2/3 of quarter unit total = semester unit total.
A. List all UPPER DIVISION (300/400 or Junior/Senior level) or higher level courses taken as an undergraduate (or graduate)
student in Art, Education, and Art Education. At least 15 units are required.
