Gaida Honored By Healthcare Purchasing News
John Gaida, THR's Senior Vice President - Supply Chain Management, has been selected by
Healthcare Purchasing News (HPN) magazine as one of the 30 "most influential" supply chain
professionals of the past 30 years.
As part of its ongoing 30th Anniversary in 2007, HPN is spending part of
its July issue examining how events and people shaped the industry into
what it is today and where it's headed in the future.
Throughout the year, HPN has been soliciting reader input in identifying
the key people, events, processes and products that have influenced
supply management's progress in that time. Based on reader
suggestions, archival research and expert interviews, HPN compiled a
list of individuals selected for their influence and leadership.
Those selected, including Gaida, were considered, wrote HPN writer
Rick Dana Barlow in that July issue, "based on their long-standing
contributions to the profession, not only to their respective organizations,
but also to the industry as a whole in terms of the concepts and ideas they espoused and the
activities they achieved."
Gaida has more than 25 years of experience in supply chain management and health care
support services. Before joining THR in 2001, John was vice president for supply chain services
at medpool, an eCommerce company. Prior to that, as vice president and practice leader for BD
Healthcare Consulting Services (BDHCS), a division of Becton Dickinson and Company, Gaida
was responsible for the Supply and Resource Management practice. He also held senior level
positions, including corporate director of materials management, with Partners HealthCare
Systems, Inc., an integrated delivery network in Boston. Gaida also worked in materials
management for Alta Bates Medical Center in Berkeley, California, Children’s Memorial Hospital
in Chicago, and Methodist Medical Center of Illinois.
The recognition by HPN is not the first honor earned by Gaida for his work in the field. He
received lifetime fellow recognition by the Association for Healthcare Resource & Materials
Management (AHRMM), and the American Hospital Association (AHA) Gossett Award for
leadership, dedication, and contributions to the profession. He is past president of the AHRMM
and served on its board of directors for two separate terms. He is also a member of the American
College of Healthcare Executives and the American Association of Healthcare Consultants. He is
currently on the Board of Directors of the Strategic Marketplace Initiative (SMI), a consortium of
executives representing health care providers, medical supply chain companies and other
businesses united to influence, shape, and advance the future of the health care marketplace.
Of Gaida, HPN reports, “The leadership award-winning past president of AHRMM [is] content
