Community: Naval Warfare Systems Center Panama City Division: School Enrichment Program School Enrichment Program THREE RIVERS SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING FAIR The Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City Division (NSWC PCD) has been hosting the Three Rivers Science and Engineering Fair since 1986. This Regional Fair is attended by students from a three county area who compete in both junior and senior categories; winners go on to compete in the Florida State Fair and some continue on to national and even international competitions. The NSWC PCD provides the facility and support staff free of charge along with numerous judges for the competition. Many times NSWC PCD employees assist students throughout the school year providing laboratory facilities and mentoring as the students develop their projects. SUMMER STUDENT PROGRAM One of the longest running student programs on Station is the Gould Science Award and Summer Partners Program. The Gould Award, established in 1974, is presented to one graduating student at each of the three area high schools who has made great achievements in Science. The award includes the offer of employment at the Station for eight weeks during the summer before they attend college. This program was expanded in 1989 to include the selection of additional students who excel in math and science and are pursuing technical careers. All of the students work closely with mentors on Station performing actual engineering tasks ranging from design and analysis to fundamental research and at-sea testing.
