WRAT-FM OUTREACH INITIATIVES
1. Participate in job fairs with station personnel who have substantial responsibility and
authority for hiring.
a. Rider University, Lawrenceville, NJ
Date: March 30, 2006
On 3/30/06 Greater Media N J Radio Group was represented at the Rider University career/intern fair.
The job/intern fair was attended by the NJ Radio Regional Human Resource Manager. Prospective
employees and interns were provided with information regarding available Greater Media NJ job/intern
openings. Resumes were accepted and questions regarding career opportunities and the application
process were answered.
b. Hunterdon County Job Fair, Flemington NJ
Date: April 20, 2006
The NJ Radio regional Human Resource Manager attended the Hunterdon County Job fair. Prospective
employees and interns were provided with information regarding available Greater Media NJ job
openings. Resumes were accepted and questions regarding career opportunities and the application
process were answered.
c. Middlesex County Job Fair, Middlesex, NJ
Date: May 15, 2006
The NJ Radio regional Human Resource Manager attended the Middlesex County Job fair. Prospective
employees and interns were provided with information regarding available Greater Media NJ job
openings. Resumes were accepted and questions regarding career opportunities and the application
process were answered.
d. Rutgers Career Fair, New Brunswick, NJ
Date: June 1, 2006
The Promotions Director for WRAT-FM participated in this recruitment fair at the Brower Commons &
Rutgers Student Center from 9:30AM-3:30PM. This drew a variety of applicants with backgrounds in
sales, customer service, communications, and other assorted specialties. The WRAT representative
explained the open positions at WRAT and assisted job seekers in applying for positions by answering
questions and collecting resumes for open positions.
e. Somerset County Job Fair, Somerset NJ
Date: October 18, 2006
The NJ Radio regional Human Resource Manager attended the Somerset County Job fair. Prospective
employees and interns were provided with information regarding available Greater Media NJ job
openings. Resumes were accepted and questions regarding career opportunities and the application
process were answered.
f. Rutgers Career Fair, New Brunswick, NJ
Date: January 4, 2007
The Promotions Director and Promotions Coordinator for WRAT-FM participated in this recruitment
fair at the Brower Commons & Rutgers Student Center from 9:30AM-3:30PM. This drew a variety of
applicants with backgrounds in sales, customer service, communications, and other assorted specialties.
The WRAT representative explained the open positions at WRAT and assisted job seekers in applying
for positions by answering questions and collecting resumes for open positions.
2. Establish an internship program designed to train local students and community members
in the skills and experience needed to procure employment in the broadcast field.
Date: Ongoing
WRAT-FM runs a continual internship program that is advertised on the station websites and through
notifications and intern fairs with local colleges.
Internships are offered in Promotions with opportunities to explore other departments such as Creative
Services, Production, and Sales. Students are required to commit at least one office day per week and,
for promotions interns, one day on the weekend to work events. All internships stress hands-on
involvement with relevant tasks.
During the reporting period the following colleges have had or currently have interns at WRAT-FM:
Conneticut School of Broadcasting, Middlesex County College, Monmouth University, Bloomsbury
University, Quinnipiac University, Syracuse University, The George Washington University, Rider
University, Ocean County College, Brookdale Community College, St. Joseph’s University, Georgian
Court University, Ramapo College of New Jersey. Widner University, College of Mount Saint Vincent,
Gettysburg College, University of Hartford, Rowan University, University of Michigan, Florida Atlantic
University, Montclair State University, Drexel University, Richard Stockton College of NJ, Kean
University, Institute of Audio Research, Rutgers University, The City University of New York, and
William Patterson University . We have had 51 interns during the reporting term.
3. Train management level personnel on methods of ensuring equal employment opportunity
and preventing discrimination.
a. Training Seminar on Discrimination and Harassment in the Workplace
Date: February 21, 2006
Greater Media NJ Radio Group participated in an EEO Learning Seminar. Rules on recruitment,
recordkeeping, reporting and assessment were discussed. The seminar was attended by Station
Managers, Sales Managers, Office Managers, Regional Controller and Regional HR Manager. At the
conclusion of the seminar a self assessment discussion was conducted.
Date: June 12-13, 2006
New Jersey Radio Group Controller attended "Diversity Best Practices" and "EEO Audit" seminars at
the BCFM Conference.
4. Participate in other activities designed by the station employment unit reasonably
calculated to further the goal of disseminating information on broadcasting employment
opportunities to job candidates or future candidates who might otherwise be unaware of
such opportunities.
a. Community Networking
Jenkinson’s Chamber Event November 2, 2006
The WRAT-FM Station Manager, General Sales Manager, and Promotions Assistant organized and
participated in this joint venture with the Jenkinson’s Chamber Event which brought hundreds of area
business and community members together. The WRAT representatives disseminated information about
the station, including information about employment opportunities, to potential job candidates who
might otherwise be unaware of these opportunities.
