Faculty/Staff Development
Provided CEU’s to faculty attending Mission College’s Making Learning Come Alive,
Simulation as an Educational Tool professional development activity for faculty on
August 13 – 14, 2009. The twelve-hour workshop focused on the practical aspects of
integrating simulation as an educational tool with existing nursing curricula. Sixteen
participants worked in small groups to create and apply scenarios using the technology.

Committee Participation
Attended Mission College’s Allied Health Advisory Committee on August 24.
Region 3 and 4 Health Deans meeting is scheduled for September 18.
South Bay RHORC will continue to host the Hospital Council’s Nurse Executive
Committee (July and August meetings were cancelled due to vacation schedules)
monthly meetings.

Conferences
Partnering with CAMLT, South Bay RHORC is sponsoring and hosting a Medical
Laboratory Technician pre-conference workshop on MLT regulations and program
experiences, for community colleges and educators. The conference will be held at the
Hyatt, Santa Clara, October 8-10.

South Bay RHORC is assisting with the California Psych Tech conference in Paso
Robles September 17-18 by handling event registration, sponsoring the key speaker as
well as a presentation on the statewide Psych Tech model curriculum by Ellen Swenson,
lead editor of the project.

Mental Health Career Pathway Event
A Career Summer Institute in Mental Health targeting junior and senior high school
students was held at multiple locations, including Mission College, July 13-17, in
partnership with Andrew Hill High School, several community social service agencies,
the Santa Clara County Mental Health Department and the San Jose State University
MSW program. The event was funded primarily by a EWD Hub grant/South Coast
RHORC. Students received academic information, technical skill requirements and
explored health occupations as part of the week long event. Eighteen students completed
the week.
Incumbent Worker Training
South Bay RHORC will deliver, through contract education and the EWD Health Care
Initiative contract with Kaiser Permanente, PC training to Kaiser employees, beginning
November 7, 2009.
