							                             GUIDELINES
              WAYNE EGER ESL LEARNER SCHOLARSHIP FUND

   1. Basic Principles
         a) A scholarship fund of $1000.00 will be provided annually
         b) The fund could provide one or two scholarships annually
         c) The award(s) will be monetary and for one year
         d) The fund will be developed from contributions from SCENES and/or other
             donors
         e) The scholarship process will be reviewed after two years (Oct. 05), and
             periodically as required
         f) ESL students who are not visa students are eligible to apply
         g) The academic standard will be determined by the acceptance (proof of
             registration) into the provincially recognized post-secondary institution

   2. ESL Scholarship Committee
        a) SCENES will establish an ESL Scholarship committee to review and
            select the winning applicant(s)
        b) The committee will be chaired by the past president
        c) The committee will be composed of the past president, the executive
            assistant, and member of the Eger family and one or two other members,
            one of which need not be a board or SCENES member
        d) The committee will select candidates based on the approved Guidelines

   3. Scope of the Use of the Fund by Recipients
      The fund will be limited to the educational enhancement costs listed below:
         a) tuition at approved educational institutions,
         b) accommodations,
         c) books and equipment,
         d) transportation,
         e) child care costs while in programs, and
         f) assessments for recognition of prior learning in skill, trade, technology and
             university training

   4. Accountability
         a) A letter from the registrar of the educational institution to confirm the
            enrolment of the scholarship recipient
         b) The letter from the ESL Instructor or Counsellor supporting the Learner’s
            educational goals
         c) The Learner’s letter of need and learning goals
         d) The scholarship recipient is requested to write a letter to the Selection
            Committee is he/she withdraws from the program or is unable to complete
            the program. The successful candidate will receive this accountability
            measure in the acceptance letter

Eligibility
To be eligible for a scholarship, an applicant must:
       1. be a recent immigrant or refugee.
       2. be a Saskatchewan resident.
       3. be enrolled or about to enroll in a provincially recognized postsecondary
                institution or enrolled to take the Prior Learning Assessment exams which
                will further their education or professional development.
       4. demonstrate financial need.

how this scholarship will help meet the recipient’s long-term and short-term
educational/career goals.
b) A letter from an ESL Instructor/Counsellor verifying the career goals.
c) The names and contact information of 2 references. They are to be community
leaders (educator, clergy, or community leader).
d) A letter from the Registrar’s office of the educational institution confirming
enrolment of the scholarship applicant. (Provide this as soon as possible; the letter
need not accompany the initial application)
