SUBJECT: T&I New Teacher Academy, July 17th - 19th 2012

We are finalizing plans for the Trade and Industrial Education (T&I) New Teacher
Academy. The Academy will be held July 17th – 19th in Stillwater. Please plan to meet
on Tuesday, July 17th at 8:00 am at Meridian Technology Center (rooms A102-103)
located at 1312 South Sangre Road in Stillwater. Refer the link below for the tentative
agenda and directions to Meridian Technology Center. More information and updates
to the agenda are available at our website at

The T&I New Teacher Academy is 3 full days designed to provide information along
with the necessary skills to support the new teacher as they begin teaching. During the
Academy you will hear from many different presenters, who come to us from a variety of
positions and expertise within Career Tech. On Wednesday, the second day of the
Academy, we have coordinated with other Career Tech Divisions and the CT Teacher
Institute to have a joint day where all new teachers for Career Tech will be together
receiving the same material.

Please go to
new-teacher-academy to register on-line. All registration must be completed prior to
attending New Teacher. Please be prepared to pay a registration fee of $65.00, when
you register online. You will need to have a Purchase Order or check to be sent to
Career Tech Finance office in Stillwater.

There are large parking areas on the east and west ends of the main building at
Meridian Technology Center. The T&I Academy rooms are A-102 and 103, located
behind the main reception desk. If you have any special needs while attending this
Academy, please let Debbra Murray know in advance at (405) 743-5149 or
Attendance at the three day New Teacher Academy, and the one day follow up is part
of the certification process and mandatory for all new CareerTech teachers.
Continental breakfast and light refreshments will be provided each day. The lunch
meals will be on the Meridian Technology Center campus at The Terrace.

A first day travel allowance based on the county location of your school, plus a stipend
for the additional days will be paid to help offset expenses. You will receive your
stipend form at the Academy. It must be completed and returned to us on the final day.
If you will be teaching for a CareerTech Skill Center, you will be reimbursed on a travel
claim – not through the T&I Division.

You are responsible for your own hotel reservations and personal charges. The
information for the conveniently located hotels is shown at this website:

Dress for the academy is “professional casual.” This means no sweats, sport shorts, or
jeans. The idea is to be comfortable while maintaining a professional workshop
atmosphere. Remember it’s difficult to keep the temperature comfortable for everyone,
so you may want to bring a jacket or a sweater.

We are planning a New Teacher Follow Up meeting for January 2013. We will notify all
attendees as the details come together. All New Teachers will need to attend this
meeting to complete their New Teacher Academy requirement for teacher certification.

We realize that it can be difficult managing the details of being away from home and
school, so we appreciate your special efforts. We also appreciate your school’s support
in making this opportunity available to you. We believe these 3 days will prove to be an
investment in your future as a Trade and Industrial Education educator. You will receive
materials, and build relationships with presenters and other new teachers that will help
support your teaching efforts into the future.
