$43,806 to $54,434
The salary range in the Department of Water and Power is $47,877 to $65,166.

DUTIES

Management Assistant is an entry-level professional position that can lead to a career in budget and finance,
personnel administration, or special program administration. Typical duties relate to the resolution of departmental
and Citywide administrative problems, data collection, report writing, program coordination and development of
public policy.
REQUIREMENTS

1. A bachelor’s degree from a recognized four-year college or university is required, and
2. Achievement of a passing score on the qualifying written test for Management Assistant.

NOTES:
1. Graduate students and college seniors in their final semester/quarter, who are currently enrolled in the
   coursework that would fulfill the above requirements, may apply. However, candidates cannot be appointed until
   they submit proof of having received their baccalaureate degree. Applicants must list their anticipated
   graduation date in the Education Section of the City application.
2. Candidates who obtain a passing score in the examination will receive instructions regarding degree verification
   prior to appointment.
3. You must list your email address on the City application. Please provide an email address that you will access
   regularly over the next 6 months. Candidates who pass the qualifying written test will be notified of subsequent
   test parts by email. All candidates are responsible for ensuring the Personnel Department has their current email
   address. Should your email address change, please provide your new email to csdexams@per.lacity.org
4. You should be a current student or a graduate of the campus where the qualifying written test is being held.

The qualifying multiple-choice written test is designed to assess quantitative and verbal reasoning, analytical ability,
reading comprehension, English usage, and situational judgment; and other necessary knowledge and abilities.
Candidates receiving a passing score on the qualifying written test will be sent the Skills Inventory by email. The
completed Skills Inventory must be received by the date specified in the Skills Inventory instructions.

An expert review panel comprised of management personnel will review your application and Skills Inventory to
assess your preparation to perform the duties of a Management Assistant. The expert panel will assign a numeric
score based on an assessment of each candidate’s application and Skills Inventory. The evaluation will focus on
relevant education, activities demonstrating leadership and initiative, the ability to interact tactfully and effectively
with others; make presentations to groups; work independently; prepare written material that is clear, concise, well
organized and understandable; knowledge of basic personal computer applications; and other necessary abilities
and skills.

NOTES:

1. Some positions may require a valid California driver’s license prior to appointment. Applicants will not be eligible
   for hire to such positions if:
          a. There are three or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents within the past 36 months except if
             in the preceding 12 months the driving record is clear of any moving violations and at-fault accidents;
             and/or
          b. Convicted of a major moving violation, such as driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs or
             reckless driving, within the past 36 months.
2. This examination is based on a validation study and, as provided by Civil Service Commission Rule 4.20, the
   written test will not be subject to candidate inspection.
3. A final average score of 70% in the Evaluation of Application and Skills Inventory is required to be placed on the
   eligible list.
4. You may take this examination only once every 365 days. Your name may be removed from the open
   competitive eligible list after six months.
5. Applications are accepted subject to review to ensure that minimum qualifications are met. Candidates may be
   disqualified at any time if it is determined that they do not possess the minimum qualifications stated on this
   bulletin.
