June 4th            Baptist Regional Medical Center Teen Volunteer Program

                    *Student should be serious-minded and interested in the medical field

                    *Student must have a B average, good attendance, and no disciplinary actions

                    *Student will provide a variety of services such as directing and walking patients
                    to their destinations, assisting pharmacy techs in the Pharmacy Department,
                    helping in the Nutrition/Food Service departments, etc.

                    *Deadline to apply is Friday, April 6, 2012.

June 6 – June 11    College Preparation Camp at Transylvania University

                    *Camp is for students who will be in 10th, 11th, or 12th grade during the 2012-
                    2013 school year

                    *Students from the Appalachian region are grant supported

                    *Students must have a B average and two recommendations from teachers or
                    administrators stating they are ready for this type of experience.

June 10 – June 15   Sullivan University Culinary Camp

                    *Experience actual culinary courses where you will cook, bake, explore and
                    socialize with other students interested in the culinary field.

June 13 – June 18   Introductory Java Programming at Transylvania University

                    *Students should be entering Grades 8 – 12 for the 2012-2013 school year

                    *$355.00 fee for five days and five nights – students will live on campus and be
                    served three meals a day.

June 17 – June 22   Baptist Regional Medical Center Academic Med-Camp

July 15 – July 21   *One week overnight camp for students entering their Junior or Senior year in
                    the 2012-2013 school year

                    *$1000 includes meals, activities, lodging, CPR certification, First Aid
                    certification, and hands on training.

                    *Students will be housed in a hotel in close proximity to the hospital.

                    *Transportation will be provided, students will learn from medical professionals,
                    and each student will receive one set of scrubs and a stethoscope.

                    *Camp is limited to eight students per session. For more information and an

June 19 – July 15   2011 Summer Enrichment Program through UK Area Health Education Center

                    *Students eligible to apply are sophomores during the 2011-2012 school year

                    *Four-week health careers residential camp that allows students to experience
                    college before college.

                    *Students will participate in a structured educational curriculum and have
                    various hands-on activities and clinical observation opportunities. They will
                    meet students currently enrolled in the Colleges of Medicine, Pharmacy,
                    Dentistry, Nursing, Health Sciences, and Public Health.

June 11 – June 15   Kentucky Forest Leadership Program

                    *Student must be entering their junior or senior in high school and have an
                    interest in forestry

                    *Students will study forest measurements, entomology, fire management,
                    identification of plants through the development of a keying process, surveying,
                    soil science, wildlife habitat assessment, water quality evaluation, and wood
                    products

                    *The leadership program takes place at UK’s Lake Cumberland 4-H Education
                    Center located in Jabez (approximately 20 miles west of Somerset)

                    *Total fee for the Leadership Program is $350.00. This amount covers all
                    programming costs and room and board.

                    *Enrollment is limited to 25 students.

                    *Deadline to apply is June 3, 2012



June 12 – June 17   The Entrepreneurial Leadership Institute at the Center for Rural Development

                    *Students who are eligible have completed their freshmen, sophomore, or
                    junior year in high school

                    *All lodging, meals, and program expenses (except transportation to and from
                    Somerset) are free to the student.

                    *The purpose is to develop future business leaders and entrepreneurs in
                    southeastern Kentucky. It is an intensive, weeklong program focused on
                    developing creativity, teamwork, business, and leadership skills.

                    *Deadline to apply (due to weather) is February 7, 2012 and you can download
                    an application from www.centertech.com.



June 12 – July 1    Kentucky State University LSAMP Summer Bridge

                    *Students should be entering 11th or 12th grade and have an interest in science
                    and engineering

                    *Students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher and an ACT score of 20
                    or higher.

                    *Participants will have the opportunity to take inquiry-based science and
                    mathematics workshops, and visit several research facilities.

                    *Selected students will receive a stipend of $750 in addition to on-campus room
                    and board.

                    *Application deadline is April 15, 2011 and can be picked up in Mrs. Gaynor’s
                    office.
June 15 – July 13   University of Kentucky Professional Education Preparation Program

                    *Students who are eligible are senior who are going to graduate in the spring of
                    2012 and interested in a career in pre-med or pre-dental

                    *Students will live in residence halls and participate in a variety of activities at
                    the UK Chandler Medical Center, UK Hospital, UK College of Medicine and UK
                    College of Dentistry. They will study chemistry and biology and do rotations in
                    many different departments.

                    *Deadline to apply is March 1, 2012.

                    *Applications are available in Mrs. Gaynor’s office



June 17 – June 22   Eastern Kentucky University Psychology Camp

                    *Inner Space Camp is a residential camp for high school students interested in
                    the exciting field of psychology.

                    *Students will work closely with EKU faculty, live in residence halls with other
                    campers and counselors, take field trips, and participate in lots of hands-on
                    activities.

June 17 – July 15   University of Louisville Professional Education Preparation Program

                    *Students who are eligible are seniors who are going to graduate in the spring
                    of 2012 and interested in a career in pre-med or pre-dental

                    *Students receive clinical exposure in medicine or dentistry, academic
                    enrichment in college level math and science, a preview of college life, and a
                    weekly stipend.

                    *Deadline to apply is March 1, 2012

June 18 – July 14   Ohio University Honors Academy

                    *Students who are eligible have completed their freshmen, sophomore, or
                    junior year with at least a 3.25 Cumulative GPA

                    *Students will live on campus, take one or two college level courses, and attend
                    one to two seminars each week
                      *Each student will be awarded up to $1,000 credit toward either tuition or room
                      and board

June 20 – June 25     Advanced Programming and Robotics at Transylvania University

                      *Students should be entering 9th through 12th grade for the 2012-2013 school
                      year

                      *$375.00 for five days and five nights – students will live on-campus and eat in
                      the cafeteria

                      *Students should have attended a previous Transy computer camp or have
                      taken classes at their high school. You should have some knowledge of
                      programming; otherwise, you need to consider the Introduction camp.

June 24 – July 14     Western Kentucky University VAMPY

                      *Students who are eligible have completed their freshmen or sophomore year
                      and were identified through a talent search program

                      *Students will live on campus and study one subject in depth (can earn high
                      school credit but you must speak with your counselor before you attend)

                      *Enrollment is limited to 220. Applications are accepted as they are received.
                      There is no deadline as long as there are remaining spots. Financial aid
                      applications are due on or before April 1st. The camp will fill up.



June 26 – July 1 or   Rogers Scholar at The Center for Rural Development – 1 week

July 10 – July 15     *Students who are eligible have completed their sophomore year in high school
                      with a 3.0 cumulative GPA

                      *All lodging, meals, and program expenses (with the exception of transportation
                      to and from Somerset) are free to the student.
                     *It will be a weeklong, intensive program focusing on developing skills in
                     leadership, technology, entrepreneurship, and community service.

                     *Several college scholarships are attached to students who have completed the
                     Rogers Scholars program.

                     * Deadline to apply (due to weather) is February 7, 2012 and you can download

July 3 – July 15     2011 Health Researchers Youth Academy through UK Area Health Education
                     Center

                     *Students eligible to apply should be juniors during the 2010-2011 school year.
                     Sophomores will be given consideration if there are spots available.

                     *This is a two-week residential camp which allows the students an opportunity
                     to learn about health care research and to understand some of the
                     requirements for majors leading to a career in health care research.

                     *Participants will interact with faculty and students from various health related
                     research projects currently in progress at UK.

                     *Deadline to apply is March 16, 2012. Applications available in Mrs. Gaynor’s
                     office.
