							                                        Eastland Honors the School Board

        January is School Board Appreciation Month. From providing better quality materials for
teachers and students and providing modern facilities for academic and extracurricular events to fine-
tuning the curriculum, the seven members of the Eastland Independent School District school board
have sacrificed a great deal for the betterment of Eastland county education.

         Jim Moylan, Jr. is the president of the Eastland Independent School District school board.
Moylan moved to Eastland in 1970 from Lubbock and attended all twelve grades in EISD. He received
both his Bachelor of Science in Animal Business and his Master of Science in Growth and Development
from Texas Tech University. Moylan is vice-president of Motec, Ltd., and has been employed there for
more than 20 years. He has been a member of the school board for seven years and president for three
years. “I wanted to help lead and hopefully improve the school that did so much for me as a student,”
Moylan said.

        Mike Montgomery was born in Dallas and has lived in Eastland for 19 years. He attended
Abilene Christian University and Lubbock Christian University with emphasis on Agricultural Business.
Montgomery is a supervisor at Enbridge Energy and has been an employee for 18 years. He has been a
member of the school board for six years and is vice president. Seeking to make a difference in the
education of Eastland kids, Montgomery has worked on the various board activities to provide a higher
quality of education.

        Marci Pearson, secretary of the EISD school board, was born in Fort Worth and raised in Brady.
Clothing and Textiles major of Texas Tech University and Fashion Merchandising major of The Fashion
and Art Institute of Dallas, Pearson worked for Calvin Klein in New York for eleven years before coming
to Eastland. She considers her work with the school board an honor and believes that effective
education allows a student to benefit both the community and the country. This is her third year on the
board.

        John Rodgers was born in Gorman and graduated from Tarleton State University and Texas Tech
University with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education. A teacher and administrator of 37 years,
Rodgers and his wife own a cattle and hay operation in Carbon. His five years on the school board have
allowed him to have his opinions voiced in the educational process of EISD students, including such
changes as the additions to the elementary school and the implementation of the “CSCOPE” curriculum
alignment program.

        Jody Forbus, born in Loveland and citizen of Carbon for 20 years, is currently in his first year on
the EISD school board. He has preached at Carbon Community Baptist Church for the past 12 years and
serves as Board President of Carbon Christian Camp. Motivated by his son and daughter, Forbus joined
the school board to see students get the very best in education.
        Gordon Woolam, originally from San Benito, has lived in Eastland for 30 years. Woolam holds a
Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Stephen F. Austin State University and a Master’s Degree in Plant
Protection from Texas A & M University. He taught at Cisco College for two years and for the past 27
years owned and operated Gordon’s Pest Control. Woolam’s 12 years on the school board allowed him
to do his part to maintain and improve the quality of the school system.

        David Hullum, a school board member of nearly seven years, moved to Eastland in 1998 from
College Station, where he attended Texas A & M. A retired Texas Ranger, Hullum is now Director of
Security at Frac Tech Services.

        When asked what rulings they were most proud of, members of the school board cited such
innovations as the VISION 20 20 program which outfits students with the latest technology, the C.A.R.E.
campus for credit recovery, school faculty daycare services, and construction of softball and baseball
fields.

        Eastland’s community, EISD administration, faculty, and staff appreciate the work and
dedication of these individuals who seek to provide what is best for students in Eastland.
