                      Letter From the Executive Director

                      Dear Member,
Happy New Year to you all! We hope you had fun filled holidays. CCAA is closing for
11 days and thanks to a crew of dedicated volunteers, the lobby, galleries and studio
will be repainted. When we reopen in January, please come to see the exhibit “A Class
Act”...works by students who have taken classes with us during 2010 and their
instructors and our bright clean building.
JANUARY 2011 We had a successful 2010 with a long list of accomplishments, thanks to our Board of
Directors who steered us in the right direction. In a difficult financial climate, we were
2011 paying attention to our budget and planning for a brighter future. To that end, we have
Board of Directors conceived of two new business enterprises that, hopefully, will be successful for both
Don Fleet our members and the association as a whole.

CCAA has developed a new entity which we will market locally, regionally and
David LaBaire nationally and we will provide our artists use of our merchant services, our reputation
Alyssa LaMora and our widespread outreach. We are planning to hold many one on one and group
Carol McGurin technical sessions so that all of you who wish to subscribe to the web based store will
Barry Olofsson be successful. We will announce when the first “pages” go online so you can see what
Jim Pennypacker it looks like and start signing people up.
Gayle Potichiny
Willow Shire Our second new endeavor is to beef up our photography program to hold more classes
Bob Singer and workshops to meet the needs of the beginner point and shoot enthusiasts as well
Susan Stranz as the more advanced shooters and even professionals. We are planning many new
Larry Thayer facets to this program to reach out to tourists who want to go on a photo walk, hold
Alan Trugman nationally advertised open juried exhibits and even get into videography classes and
John Tunney production.

We hope that 2011 becomes a year of growth, prosperity and opportunities for all.

           FEATURED ARTIST OF THE MONTH

Congratulations to our People’s Choice Award winner from our
Secrets, Mysteries and Lies show, Janine Kilty. Her oil piece “Park
Street Dream” has created lots of buzz and was voted as your
favorite.
Janine did not discover her talent for painting until her thirties! Her
husband Kurt pushed her into taking her first art class at the School
of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. She then continued with art
classes at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art after moving to
the Philadelphia area. It was there where she met Wade Schuman
and began to work for him in his atelier and realized that oil was the
medium for her.

Wade’s love for classical art and its techniques has been a tremendous influence for Janine as
well as Velasquez, Sargent, Sorolla and contemporary artists such as Odd Nerdrum, Zack Zdrale,
Bo Bartlett and David Leffel. Janine believes her paintings contain a narrative quality that
challenges the viewer to reflect on the mystery as well as the beauty in life. For most of her
paintings she heads right for the canvas. She finds herself drawing with the paint to create an
imprimatura that serves as a value map and a monochrome under painting. After this under
painting has dried, she glazes to build up depth of color that would be difficult to attain with one,
single, thick, mixed application of colored paint. She continues to apply the glaze layers of color
until she achieves the accuracy she is looking for. Her method is to continue with layer upon layer,
allowing each to dry, before applying further paint. It is depth of color, as well as realistic color
accuracy for which she is striving.

Janine would be thrilled to think that someone who acquired
her work would get lasting pleasure in finding previously
undiscovered passages with each new glance. Andrew Wyeth
said, “the art goes as deep as your love goes.” That has
something to do with giving yourself wholeheartedly to
something. It’s not just a project out of your head, it’s a project
of your whole being, and Janine feels that way about her art.
She believes an artist needs to be able to bring to perception
some aspect that changes the way we interpret the world.
Aside from her art, Janine and her husband share four animal
companions’- three cats and an African Grey parrot. She has a
passion for collecting early American antiques and enjoys all
her husband’s hard work in their garden at home. Thank you
Janine for sharing with us and congratulations!!
