In attendance: Karen Wroblewski, Janet Jones, David Evers, Tim Towler, Peter Jones, Cathy
Harlow, Sara Cantor, Jacque Bush & Stan Murphy

Meeting called to order at 9:15 am.

The June minutes were approved.

Task Group Reports

Student Advisory Board: Sara Cantor, president for 2006/2007 is looking forward to next year.
Professional Development/Data Dig: Stan Murphy, will be attending a data meeting next week.
Senior Exhibitions: Karen Wroblewski, all seniors who were eligible to graduate passed their
exhibition.

Parent Connections Forum:

Cathy Harlow, the new name for the Parent Advisory Board is the Parent Connections Forum.
Cathy would like to be on the governance agenda each meeting.
The PCF would like child care available in the library during meetings so that more parents
would be encouraged to attend. CAS hours for students, computers available.
The July edition of Parent Connect (newsletter) has a deadline of July 21 for submission. It will
go out in the home mailer on July 27.

Principal’s Report:

Ricky Nunez’s father died this past week.
There is a new Assistant Superintendent in charge of small schools. H. J. Green (former IB
school principal from Tulsa, OK), replacing Rob Atterbury.
Each school in the complex should be getting a unique phone number in Sept. or Oct., extensions
may or may not change.
A/B schedule and Master Schedule draft were distributed.
We’ll have several new teachers next year:
        Kevin Barthel – Social Science
        Sara Daniels – French
        TBD – English
        TBD – Event Planning
Next year, much of the Professional Development and committees will be driven by data
collection and WASC.
Next year CIMA and IS will have a partnership:
     Advanced Spanish students from CIMA will be included in Rocio Guillermoprieto’s
        class.
     Web Design students from IS will be included in Garduno’s class.
     There will be some exchange of students to serve as tutors.
The Staff Handbook is not complete yet, it will be presented at the next Governance meeting.
SAB & Event Planning need to coordinate better next year. Possible division being:
        SAB – IS inclusive events
       Event Planning – Internationalism focus, outside of school events, fundraising –
       individual events.
Possible upcoming fundraising events:
       Buy a brick – to fund garden improvements.
       Car wash
Tutoring:
Schedule online with office hours (by subject & teacher)

New Business

       Review & Approve Master Calendar (From Monday Mtg.)
             Calendar was reviewed and approved.
             Selected items will be on the IS webpage calendar.

       Review & Approve proposed meeting dates for Governance 06 – 07 (From Mon. Mtg.)
             Dates were approved with the Master Calendar.

       Discuss Mission Statement Revision (Murphy)
              Mission statement was reviewed and changes proposed. A copy of the revised
              mission statement will be sent to all the governance team members to get input.
              A vote on the mission statement will be at the September 1 governance meeting.

       Discuss Graduation Options
              Defer to 9/1

       Review Orientation Plan (From Tuesday Mtg.)
             Student orientation will be August 21 from 8:30 – 3:00.
             Karen deLaurier is coordinating the orientation with Janet Jones.

       Review Student Recognition Proposals (From Wednesday Mtg.)
             Janet Jones recommended several student recognitions. They were approved with
             the master calendar. See the master calendar for dates.

       Review Connections Proposals (From Thursday Mtg.)
           The goal of Connections is to develop a 1 on 1 relationship with students, plan for
             college and support academics.
           There were too many unscheduled interruptions of connections last year.
           Connections time is sacred, and any disruptions must be approved in advance so
             that planning of the time in connections may be done. (Approval by the staff at
             the last PD of the month for the following month.)
           Connections will not be for tutoring outside of the student’s connections
             classroom. Teachers will hold tutoring at lunch, after school &/or Saturday. A
             schedule will be requested from each teacher and posted on the web page.

       Discuss & Propose Task Group Categories
              There will be a meeting on Monday July 17 with Karen Wroblewski, where task
              groups will be proposed. Most task groups will be WASC or event driven.
