Introduction 1.1 Purpose This Statement of Work defines the scope of the work to be accomplished by Systems Engineering Capstone Project student team in support of Lockheed Martin and the Wide Area Augmentation System Navigation Infrastructure Environment Simulation (WAAS-NIES) Project. 1.2 Scope This Statement of Work defines all work that must be performed to satisfy the informal project agreement between Lockheed Martin and the Systems Engineering Capstone Project Team performing the Wide Area Augmentation System Navigation Infrastructure Environment Simulation Project. The WAAS-NIES Project is a project defined to help promote the education of graduate systems engineering students. There is no binding contract for this project. There are no cost reporting requirements for this SOW because the work performed in compliance with this SOW is voluntary and unpaid. 1.3 Assumptions and Constraints This project is limited in scope to the work that three systems engineering graduate students and one software engineering student can perform in approximately 15 weeks at approximately 10 hours per week per person (about 360-400 hours). The platform for the simulator prototype demonstration will be limited to hardware available at the University of Houston Clear Lake (UHCL). Software used for the simulator prototype will be limited to software available for use through UHCL or freeware. 1.4 References None 1.5 Acronyms, Abbreviations, and Definitions The following definitions differentiate between requirements and other statements. Shall: This is the only verb used for the binding requirements. Should/May: These verbs are used for stating non-mandatory goals. Will: This verb is used for stating facts or declaration of purpose. 1.6 Identification of Key Personnel Systems Engineering Capstone Team – the team performing the WAAS-NIES Project, consisting of Clay Bailey, Temitope (Tope) Usanga, and Kalyn Bullock, also referred to by “Capstone Team” in this SOW Client – Mr. Corbin Holtz of Lockheed-Martin Faculty Advisor – Dr. Young-Won Park 1.7 Overview The responsibility for the development of this document lies with the Project Manager, Clay Bailey. Change authority will be Clay with the concurrence of the Client and the Faculty Advisor. Section 2 defines the Project Management tasks to be performed. Section 3 defines the Systems Engineering tasks to be performed. Section 4 defines the technical scope of work. Section 5 defines the product deliverables. Section 6 defines the data deliverables. Technical Overview 2.1 System Description The WAAS-NIES is a subsystem of a simulation environment (hereafter designated the environment simulator) that includes the simulation of several space vehicles, the solar system, an accurate navigational model of the stars and planets, a detailed moon model, detailed Earth and Mars models, and other models as required to provide a mission simulation environment for space missions to the moon and beyond. The WAAS-NIES provides navigation of space vehicles within the simulated environment. Figure 2-1 presents a high-level concept of WAAS-NIES concept of operations. Figure 2-1 High-level Architecture for WAAS 2.2 Overview of Technical Tasks The Capstone Team shall perform the systems engineering and project management tasks required to develop and deliver system-level requirements and a system design for the WAAS-NIES. The work shall include development of the concept of operations, the system architecture, and a working prototype of the system in addition to the system requirements and design. Details are provided in subsequent sections of this SOW. 3. Project Management Tasks 3.1 Description of tasks The Capstone Team shall perform all project management tasks in performance of the WAAS-NIES Project. A Project Manager shall be appointed by the team to assure that all project management tasks are performed to industry best practices. Tasks shall include: Project Planning, Project Performance Management and Control (to include resource and schedule management), Risk Management, Configuration Management, and Data Management. SENG 6837 Page 6 of 8 The Project Manager shall define and document the following: Project Plan Master Schedule Configuration Management Plan Risk Management Plan The Project Manager shall be responsible for assuring that all project deliverables are produced and delivered and that all tasks are accomplished per the project plan. 3.2 Reporting and Communications The Project Manager shall provide a weekly Activity Report to the Faculty Advisor. The Project Manager shall provide Client Meeting Minutes for each Client meeting. Communication with the Client shall be through email or through face-to-face meetings. 4. Systems Engineering Tasks The Capstone Team shall define and document the concept of operations, system architecture, system requirements, system interfaces, and system design. The Capstone Team shall perform a trace of all system requirements to show compliance with the concept of operations and from the requirements through testing to show prototype compliance with requirements. The Capstone team shall keep records of problems encountered during the development of the project beginning with the integration of the prototype software and hardware. The Capstone Team shall provide a review of system requirements and design, to include:: System Requirements Review – to review the system level requirements, including interface requirements (document only) System Definition Review – to review the system architecture (document and meeting) Preliminary Design Review – to review the system level design and the prototype design (document and meeting) 5. Prototype Demonstration The Capstone Team shall provide a demonstration of a prototype of the WAAS-NIES. The prototype will demonstrate the simulator at a high level and detail down a few levels on one of the modules. 6. Project Closeout Activities Project closeout consists of presenting the Final Presentation, producing the Final Report, and the Lessons Learned; and delivering the Project Development Folder, to both the Client and the Faculty Advisor. . 7. Project Deliverables The product to be delivered by this project is a prototype of WAAS-NIES. This prototype consists of the software source code. A demonstration of the software prototype will be executed, but no hardware will be delivered. 8. Data Requirements Deliverables Data Requirements Deliverables are identified below. Items indicated as Type 1 are deliverables to the Client. Items indicated as Type 2 are documents deliverable to the Faculty Advisor. All documents shall be provided in soft form. Formatting shall be determined by the Capstone Team. Content shall be determined by the Team, but shall be in alignment with industry best practices for a project of this size.
