We are excited to offer another opportunity for your child and expose them to some great ball this year
while allowing them time to meet new friends. We encourage you to remain involved and volunteer when
you are able. Our children need positive role models who instruct in the fundamentals of ball.
Bellevue Youth Recreation Association (BYRA) is a not for profit organization that has been around since
the early 70’s. We offer programs for players from the age of 4 to 14.
While BYRA believes in a team ‘draw’ system, we also understand that with many families having either
single parents or both parents working, exceptions need to be made. Our pledge is to honor requests as
we feel it is important that our children stay active all year.
Scheduled games are played Monday – Thursday. We believe the weekends should be spent with
family. On occasion, select teams may be registered in weekend tournament play or coaches may select
to re-schedule games on a Friday.
Games that are cancelled due to rain will not be re-scheduled unless the two coaches arrange for
4-5 Years / T-Ball Division: The game is the entry sport to baseball and softball for young players,
generally four to six years old. Members of two teams take turns hitting a ball off a batting tee set on
home plate. Batters try to get on base and advance to home; fielders try to prevent that from happening.
The elimination of pitching allows children to participate without the fear of being hit by a pitched ball. Tee
ball develops the primary baseball skills of hitting, running, fielding and throwing. The players gain an
understanding of the fundamental rules, which allows minimally competitive league play at all age levels.
Games played on fields near Bellevue Elementary. Practice in May (one night a week) and 8 games of
play in June)
6-8 Years / Coach Pitch Division: This program emphasizes on the fundamentals of baseball and
softball. The main focus of this program is to help your child build the foundations they will need to have
fun and achieve success while on the ball field. Participants will learn how to throw and catch the ball,
the basics of hitting and learning how the run the bases. Every effort is made to promote the philosophy
of ‘fun first’ in our program. We encourage coaches to teach winning is an attitude, not an essential
outcome of every game. Our coaches work toward coaching each individual child rather than the sport in
general at this age in an attempt to foster a sense of accomplishment and self-esteem. Games played on
fields near Bellevue Elementary with minimal travel to neighboring communities. Players are scheduled
for 8 games.
Boy’s u10, u12 and u14 Division: Our travel boys teams participate in the Southern Capital League.
