                                             Meeting: April 20, 2009

Guest:     Terry Sirois (Holy Family Parish)

   1. Meeting called to order at 8:00 pm and welcome to special guest, Terry Sirois

   2. Prayer and special intentions led by Carl, followed by introductions

   3. Motion to approve agenda (Patty)

   4. Motion to adopt minutes of March 23rd meeting (Jaymie, 2nd Melanie) Approved.

   5. Guest speaker: Terry Sirois is co-chair for the Uniting in Faith Campaign at Holy Family Parish. The new
      cathedral is expected to cost $28 ½ million, with Holy Family committed to raise $16 million of those funds.
      Terry’s goals in speaking to our Council was to engage the students in building the new church and encourage
      them to give back to the community and growing their faith through donation of time, effort, and financial
      support. She is asking our Council to commit proceeds of an existing or new fundraiser, big or small, to the
      Building Fund for the next 5 years. Decision on this was tabled to later in the meeting.

   6. Administrator’s Report
         a) Brazil Mission – over $4,000 raised, thanks to everyone for their efforts and generosity
         b) Intensive French – Letter going out to parents of children currently in Grade 5 to determine their
             selection of Intensive French or English stream class for their child for the upcoming school year.
             Intensive French class will have a cap of 27 students.
         c) Learning Improvement Plan update/Professional Learning Community meetings
                     School has set up professional learning communities for teachers that meet every 2 nd
                        Tuesday to work on professional growth and development, SMART Goals and the Learning
                        Improvement Plan.
                     Kim shared information on the progress of K-Gr 2 discussing oral language development
                        and problem solving in math
                     Carl shared the strategy of Gr 3-Gr 5 teachers who are focusing on supporting staff new to
                        Math Makes Sense/Smart Boards/Guided Reading and working as a team on these initiatives
                     Troy shared the updated oracy rubric they are using for Gr 6 – Gr 8 and provided
                        information on the new science kits they are developing for new science units
                     Looking forward to more involvement of the MTCSCC in development of LIPs as we move
                        forward
         d) Meewasin Valley Information meetings information shared (meetings were April 21/22)
         e) Safe Positive School Committee – hope to complete school internet policy by end of May
