STATEMENT: I am presently working towards my Doctorate in Education at CSUSB. This
Winter Quarter I will complete my last class for the doctoral program and will
then concentrate my efforts towards completing my dissertation. My dissertation
focuses on meeting the academic needs of Basic Skills students. In addition to
working towards my doctoral degree, I am in the process of completing my
English thesis, which will also complete the requirements for a second Masters
Degree in English Composition and Rhetoric.
EDUCATION: 2010/2011 -2009/2010 - 2008/2009 CSUSB - Doctoral candidate in Educational
Leadership.
2009/2010 CSUSB – TESOL Certificate
2010/2011 CSUSB - Master of Arts Student in English Composition and
Rhetoric.
2007/2008 CSUSB - Graduated with a Master of Arts Degree in Education
Reading and Language Arts from CSUSB with a 4.0 GPA in my major. I was
also selected as the Outstanding Graduate Student for 2008 and was privileged
to deliver the commencement address to my fellow graduates.
2004/2006 CSUSB Palm Desert - Graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in
English Literature with High Honors. I was also selected as the Outstanding
Undergraduate Student for 2006 and was privileged to deliver the
commencement address to my fellow graduates.
2002/2004 College of the Desert - Graduated with an Associate in Arts degree
in English Composition with High Honors.

SPECIALIZED TRAINING:
June 2010 I received my TESOL certificate from CSUSB
Winter 2010 MSJC Technology Academy Introduction to Online Teaching and
Learning – A three-day professional development seminar focusing on online
course organization, curriculum development, specific resources for online
instruction, and strategies for online student success.
Summer 2009 WestEd Community College Reading Apprenticeship Seminar
in Santa Ana – A three-day professional development and research seminar
focusing on improving academic literacy in diverse populations of students
using Reading Apprenticeship, a research-based instructional framework.
ACADEMIC
COMMITTEES: In January of 2009, I was personally selected by College of the Desert’s
President, Jerry Patton, to represent the interests of the Communication
Department on the Basic Skills Initiative Committee for the 2008/2009 and
2009/2010 academic years. The college extended my contract and I will
continue to serve on the Basic Skills Committee throughout the 2010/2011
academic year.
In September of 2010, I was selected to serve on College of the Desert’s Safety
Committee.
In November of 2010, I was selected to serve on College of the Desert’s College
Planning Council.
HONORS: I was extremely honored to be chosen as the CSUSB Outstanding Graduate
Student for 2008. With this honor I was privileged to deliver the
commencement address to my fellow graduates.
In April 2007 I was privileged to represent CSUSB at the “2007 Access to
Excellence System-wide Summit” in Newport Beach.
I have been selected as a Rogers Scholar Recipient in 2005/2006 and
2007/2008.
I received the Associated Students Incorporated Scholarship in 2006/2007 and
2007/2008.
I was extremely honored to be chosen as the CSUSB Outstanding
Undergraduate Student for 2006. With this honor I was privileged to deliver the
commencement address to my fellow graduates.
In 2006 I became a PHI KAPPA PHI Honor Society inductee and a Sigma Tau
Delta inductee.
PUBLICATIONS AND PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIPS:
May 2010 and 2009 I was honored to be selected to present my current
dissertation research at the 7th and 8th annual –Graduate Student Research and
Scholarship Symposium at California State University San Bernardino.
March 21, 2008, I was pleased to present a paper on “Rhetoric in United States
Presidential Inaugural Poetry” at the Popular Culture/American Culture
Conference in San Francisco.
I have participated in several poetry reading events held in the Palm Springs
area and have been honored to have three of my poems anthologized in a
publication by the Palm Springs Writers Guild. I have also been privileged to
have had three short stories and three poems published in the College of the
Desert Solstice Anthology in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
I have professional memberships in the Modern Language Association,
Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC), the Desert
Literacy Society, and the Popular Culture/American Culture Association.
