C. Condemnations: (pg. 16)
1. 2762 College - The condemnation of 2762 College was brought before the
Council. Mr. Eric Giroir, Director of Building Safety, distributed photographs
taken today showing there have been no apparent changes. The house is
secure from the outside. Mr. Omar Alaoui was not in attendance at the
meeting. Councilman Hicks asked the Council to bring this matter back at
the Council Meeting on June 23, 2009.
February 10, 2009 - Council ordered Mr. Alaoui to begin renovations by
March 10, 2009 and report back to the Council on that date.
March 10, 2009 - Some trash removed, no permits or inspections ordered.
Lumber in the front yard. Council ordered that Mr. Alaoui apply for a permit
by March 24, 2009, and that substantial progress be made by that date.
March 24, 2009 – Permits received and work begun. Council ordered Mr.
Alaoui to report back on the progress at May 26th meeting.
May 26, 2009 - Mr. Giroir reported the foundation repairs are done, including
leveling of the floor, the house is secured, and the worst part of the porch is
finished. Councilman Hicks reported that a substantial amount of work done.
Mr. Omar Alaoui has been delayed due to recent rains. Councilman Hicks
asked Mr. Alaoui to report back at the next meeting and give an update.
2. 2242 Carey Street - The condemnation of 2242 Carey Street was brought
before the Council. Mr. Eric Giroir, Director of Building Safety, distributed
photographs taken today. Mr. Giroir reported that the condition of the back
building presents a hazardous condition.
Mr. Young was not in attendance at the meeting. Mr. Hicks reported Mr.
Young recently had major surgery and has been unable to work on the
property. Mr. Hicks requested Mr. Giroir inform Mr. Young by letter of the
hazardous condition and ask Mr. Young to report to the next Council
meeting.
December 9, 2008 - Council voted to condemn property at 2242 and to allow
Mr. Young 30 days to demolish the back house and secure doors and
windows.
March 10, 2009 - Council ordered Mr. Young to demolish the back house
within ten days and secure the front building, the roof, and have the building
weather tight in 90 days.
