The Blandford Yuletide Festival - What?
The Blandford Yuletide Festival was launched in December 2010 as an evening when the town of
Blandford Forum came together to give a focus to the Christmas season for both residents and visitors
alike. The 2010 Festival attracted an estimated 4000 people and included many different facets,
representing the diversity of the life of the town as well as representing the diversity of individuals and
groups taking part. This included A Lantern Parade through the town by pupils from the 8 primary schools
in the Blandford Schools Network, led by Band of The Royal Corps of Signals, Communal Carol Singing,
Street theatre, music and dancing, Late night shopping alongside raft and Local Produce Markets and
many other attractions. The evening concluded with Fireworks lighting up the centre of the town.

Plans for the 2011 Festival have sought to build on the success of 2010 with extra and larger markets, as
well as additional attractions.

The Blandford Yuletide Festival - When?
The Yuletide Festival will take place from 6.00pm to 9.00pm on Wednesday 14th December 2011.

The Blandford Yuletide Festival - Where?
The event is based in the middle of Blandford Forum and there will be a road closure from 4.00pm to
9.30pm covering East Street, West Street, The Market Square, Salisbury Street, The Plocks, Sheep Market
Hill and Church Lane, to allow for the Lantern Procession. The road closure order allows for two way
traffic in White Cliff Mill Street for the duration of the closure in order to allow access for residents and
the surgeries.

The Blandford Yuletide Festival - Why?
In previous years, several different groups endeavoured to lay on a Late Night Shopping events but there
was a feeling that a new type and style of event was needed in order to make such an event a success. A
number of groups came together at the start of 2010 with the expressed intention to lay on such an
event and to make it the sort of evening which would memorable for all who took part in it. The 2010
was a phenomenal success with an evening which was laid on by the community for the community and
encompassed every part of the diverse community that is Blandford Forum.

The Blandford Yuletide Festival - Who?
A key aspect of the Blandford Yuletide Festival is that the Group organising the event incorporates
representatives of every major group in the town, including Blandford Forum Town Council, Blandford
Chamber of Trade, Blandford Police, Blandford Fire Station, Blandford Lions, Blandford Stour Rotary,
Blandford Camp, Blandford Churches Together and The Blandford Schools Network. Many other
organisations, such as Blandford Rotary Club and Blandford Camera Club are actively supporting the
project. This is a genuine case of bringing the town together to do something wonderful for their town.
The Blandford Yuletide Festival - How?
The event has been organised by a representatives of diverse aspects of the town’s community using the
small surplus from last year’s event and sponsorship from Hall and Woodhouse. Whilst there is no charge
for entrance, collectors will invite contributions and it is hoped that the combination of sponsorship and
the profits from all the organisations and groups taking part will enable the costs of the evening to be
covered with any surplus being used to fund future events.

The Blandford Yuletide Festival
Wednesday 14th December will be another memorable evening for everyone who attends – the children
taking part in the lantern parade, those who stand and sing carols together, the colour and sounds of the
market place and the experience of a short firework display over the centre of the town. The aim of
those organising it is that it will bring all corners of the town together for an enjoyable and exciting time
