The McCormick Faculty Awards
Stanford University School of Medicine
The Office of Diversity and Leadership of the Stanford University School of
Medicine invites applications for the 2010 McCormick Faculty Awards. The
McCormick Funds were established to support the advancement of women in
medicine and/or medical research directly, or by supporting the mentoring,
training and encouragement of women pursuing the study of medicine, in
teaching medicine, and engaging in medical research.
Application Guidelines and Eligibility:
The McCormick Awards provide research or project funding to junior and
mid-level faculty. (ACTING, AFFILIATE AND INSTRUCTORS NOT
Open to women pursuing advancement, or to men or women who support
the advancement of women in medicine and/or medical research
MD, PhD or equivalent advanced degree; candidate must be within 7 years
of first assistant–level academic appointment at the time the award is
Open to School of Medicine assistant professors and associate professors
in all tracks. Not open to Instructors.
Applications from both clinical and basic science research investigators,
clinicians and educators will be considered.
Submission of a project description on which applicant is the Principal
Investigator or equivalent, and which benefits the academic progress of
women pursuing the study of medicine, teaching of medicine or engaging
in medical research.
Current recipients of the Faculty Diversity Research Awards or the
McCormick Faculty Award are not eligible
Awards will be for $30,000 per year for two years. The committee expects
to make three awards each year.
Funds will be awarded on a competitive basis. Selection will be made by a
committee convened by the Office of Diversity and Leadership.
Must provide a written document after the first year of research outlining
progress, as well as a final outcome paper.
Proposals should be submitted electronically to the Office of Diversity and
Leadership (firstname.lastname@example.org) by 5pm on August 31, 2010.
Proposals should be no more than 3 pages, excluding references, and should
include the following:
Background and significance
Project design and methods
In addition, please submit the following with the proposal:
Curriculum vitae and biosketch
Statement describing the way in which the proposed award would support
the advancement of women in medicine or medical research at Stanford
Listing of current and pending other support
Two letters of support, one from the appropriate chief or chair, including a
statement regarding the applicant’s ability to act as Principal Investigator
on the project and the commitment of institutional resources, and one from
a colleague or mentor, preferably outside the applicant’s current
