1. COMMITTEE

   Mr Dan Hutchens advised that whilst he has benefited from attending USC meetings (since October 2009)
   he would not be regularly attending future meetings. Mrs Pandy du Preez’s two year term as the UMG
   Representative ends soon and a request for a new representative will be made. The Post Graduate Student
   Association has been approached about whether they would like to have a representative attend meetings.
   The annual call for Safety and Health Representatives will be made soon and a call for the six SHRs to serve
   on the USC made following the April 2011 meeting.

   The Chair congratulated John Moore on receiving a Federal Endeavour Award in 2010.

The initial workshops identified at UWA Sports & Recreation was inspected but not considered to be a
workshop. Psychology has closed their workshop areas.


12. UNIVERSITY SAFETY COMMITTEE ANNUAL REPORT 2010

The USC Annual Report 2010 is being prepared and will be distributed for comment prior to release.


13. INCIDENT AND INJURY REPORTS

A total of 27 incidents and injuries (9 involving students and visitors) were reported to Safety and Health in

the period from 1 December 2010 to 31 January 2011 inclusive. These incidents have resulted in 3
accepted workers’ compensation claim, 0 pended workers’ compensation claims, 3 lost time injuries (LTI)
and 34 days of work lost. These numbers are subject to increase as further reports and updates are
received.

15. SMOKE FREE CAMPUSES FROM 2012

Curtin, ECU and UWA have decided to have smoke free campuses from 1 January 2012. A UWA Working
Party is required to ensure thorough consultation occurs in the lead up to this. The ‘UWA Smoke-Free
Premises Paper – February 2010’ was provided with the agenda.
