Practice
Sharing Successful Regional & Local Initiatives
June 17- 19, 2002
Regency Suites Hotel and Conference Center
Green Bay, Wisconsin
The Great Lakes Forest Alliance announces the First Annual Sustainable Forest Management
Summit will be held June 17-19, 2002 at the Regency Suites Hotel and Convention Center in Green
Bay, Wisconsin. The Summit will be an exchange of sustainable forest management issues and
trends among regional professionals, practitioners, researchers and the community in the forest
resource and related fields and will showcase success stories and address emerging issues. The
keynote presentation with green paper will stimulate discussions in panel presentations on the
ecological, economic and social/community perspectives around themes of research, data collection
and monitoring, policy development, on-the-ground practice, and education. Focused discussion in
the panel sessions will identify emerging trends and issues and strategies to disseminate the
information. Poster sessions will highlight unique project work. The objectives of the event are as
follows:
* To present and discuss emerging Sustainable Forest Management issues of regional significance in
ecological, economic and social components related to data collection and monitoring, research,
policy, practice and education.
* To foster exchange among the delegates to guide their efforts within their federal, state, university
and private, both for-profit and non-profit work settings as they integrate Sustainable Forest
Management science into policy and practice decisions.
The Governor of Wisconsin, the State Foresters and University/Research Facility Deans will all
participate in Forum panel sessions. Delegates will have an opportunity to participate in discussion
about the 2003 State of the Forests Report for the US and engage in a tour of the Menominee Tribal
forest lands and programs. We invite you to be a part of the deliberations as well.
