Applications are invited for the position of Team Statistician for the Australian U19 Men’s Team
participating in the ISF IX Junior Men’s World Championships in Parana Argentina 1-10 November
2012.
The Team Statistician will be required for the following events:
            Pre ISF World Championship training camp (July 2012)
            Pre ISF World Championship training activities (October tbc)
            ISF IX Junior Men’s World Championships Parana Argentina 1-10 November 2012.

            Softball Australia Form 6.1
All applications must be submitted on the Softball Australia Form 6.1 (endorsed by the relevant
Member State) and should include the following:
            A copy of your Softball Statistician resume
            A response to the task requirements, including relevant examples
Applications will only be accepted on Softball Australia Form 6.1 and must be submitted to the
Softball Australia office no later than 6 July 2012.

U19 Men’s Team Statistician
ISF IX Junior Men’s World Championships Parana Argentina 1-10 November 2012

Primary Purpose of the Role
The focus area for a Team Statistician in Softball Australia is the recording and provision of scores and
statistics from games played by the national squad / team to which the Team Statistician is appointed.
The Team Statistician may be appointed for a period of up to one year. The role of the Team
Statistician is to:
      Work with the Head Coach in determining the level and quality of statistics recorded in each
          game played by the national team
      Provide specific data as and when required by the Head Coach
      Provide up to date information to Softball Australia, including play by plays and box score
          reports, by putting the information on the SAL website and providing information to SAL as
          required.
      Build a data bank of all required statistics during a particular period nominated by the Head
          Coach
      Scout the performance of opposing teams and supply requested data to the Head Coach
      Provide Softball Australia with permanent and accurate performance records for each player
          at the end of every domestic or international tour
      Provide such assistance as is requested by the Head Coach for other members of the team
          staff while on domestic and international tours.

Qualifications
The Team Statistician shall:
     Be a current member of SA
     Level 4 NOAS Scorer, with at least 3 years’ experience at that level
     Have at least 3 years experience of recording at national or international tournaments

     Have a sound knowledge of current world practice in scoring, charting and results systems

     Have extended experience of softball scoring and results systems at least at a national level

Sport Delivery
   Have integrity and maintain confidentiality about sensitive scoring issues affecting players and
      officials
   Be a keen observer of detail and have the ability to record decisions clearly and concisely
   Have the ability to produce accurate statistical records promptly after the conclusion of a game.

Tasks
The Team Statistician shall:
    Meet with the Head Coach and agree on the scope and detail of the records to be made of the
       team’ and player’s performances during any games in which the team participates
    Meet with the organising officials before any games in which the team is to participate and
       negotiate any requirements which the Team Statistician might have in order to undertake the
       agreed role satisfactorily
    Provide up to date information to Softball Australia, including play by plays and box score
       reports, by putting the information on the SAL website and providing information to SAL as
       required.
    Undertake all scouting, charting and scoring activities required by the Head Coach
    Provide the Head Coach with required statistics from each game as soon as practicable after
       the conclusion of the game
    At any tournament check that the official scores and team records as published are accurate
       and bring any errors to the prompt attention of the Head Coach
    Retain as confidential all statistics for release only to the Head Coach
    Prior to each game, if required by the Head Coach, attend the appointed area and participate
       in the toss for innings and benches
    Provide assistance as requested by the Head Coach to other members of the team staff in the
       activities required of them
    At the conclusion of each domestic and international tour prepare a complete set of player
       statistics for the Head Coach
    Advise the National Chief Statistician of any improvements which experience suggests are
       beneficial to the current national scoring practices
    When requested by the National Chief Statistician and within the dictates of the current role of
       Team Statistician provide assistance to training programs of other statisticians.

Resources.
The Team Statistician shall have the following resources available for the execution of the role:
    The support and advice of the National Chief Statistician
    Softball Australia’s scoring manuals and computerised scoring programs
    Such resources as are allocated by the Head Coach
    Assistance from the Office of Softball Australia as negotiated by the Head Coach or the Team
       Statistician

       Such assistance as is provided by the hosts of any tournament in which the team participates.

Accountability
The Team Statistician is accountable to the Head Coach.
The Team Statistician is expected to develop and maintain communication with influence within
Softball Australia with:
     The other members of the team staff
     The National Chief Statistician and members of the National Scoring Committee
     Softball Australia’s and AIS office appointed media officer
     The Scorers / Statisticians appointed to other national teams and
     Other persons nominated by the Head Coach.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
The Team Statistician will be subject to KPIs agreed with the Head Coach. These KPIs will be
reviewed regularly (at least annually) and will be a principal basis for any review of the Team
Statistician role. The KPIs will cover:
     The perceived accuracy of the records prepared by the Team Statistician
     The promptness with which game records are prepared and released to the Head Coach
     The level of confidentiality maintained with all records prepared by the Team Statistician
     The assistance provided by the Team Statistician to other members of the Team Staff
         especially while on tour
     The interpersonal relationships which the Team Statistician maintains with other members of
         the Team Staff and with the players
     The quality of the communication with Softball Australia’s and AIS office staff and with the
         members of the National Scoring Committee
     The contribution which the Team Statistician makes towards the training of other statisticians
         within Softball Australia.
     Adherence to the terms of any Softball Australia official’s Agreement and staff roles and
         responsibilities entered by the Statistician.

Any official appointed to a Softball Australia team is expected to conform with Softball Australia’s
Policies, including but not limited to the following Policies, which are available on the Softball Australia
website:
     SAL Australian Teams’ Policy
     SAL Member Protection Policy
     SAL Anti-Doping Policy
