Mom - In memory of Darrell Vincent

							Darrell was a great husband.

His thoughtfulness never ceased to amaze me:

    1 He'd say, "Let's call Jeanne--it's her birthday.". He rememered so many birthdays.

    2 He said, "Let's send some flowers to Chuck and Joan for their housewarming."

    3. He'd say, "Let's ask Pam and Joe over for dinner. We haven't seen them in a long time."

To say nothing of the fun with the New Year's Eve gang, the Office parties, the pre-planning and
post-planning and participating in the St. Patrick's Day parties. He was the fun in my life.

He often said what terrible duty he had in the navy--he was stationed for four years in Hawaii.

    1. He loved the beaches, swimming and collecting shells.

    2. He loved singing with his navy buddies in the choir of the First Methodist Church

  3. He was one of the admiral's choices to lead VIP tours of Pearl Harbor in the days when you
could actually stand on the part of the Arizona that wasn't sunk
.
  4. He loved it when he could take Lani and Dave and me on his Hawaii tours.

  5. And of course the untimate was when 4 couples of us spent 10 days on Kauai with Darrell
and my brother-in-law, Dave Lauster, as our guides. His two sisters and their husbands and my
sister and her husband and us. Darrell was in his glory showing his sisters Hawaii.

And he loved wood.

    1 He enjoyed taking a scarred and broken object and making it beautiful.

  2 His grandfather made a gun cabinet for his father, who was quite a hunter. Darrell took the
blackened cabinet apart, even the tiniest trim, scraped and sanded and sanded and scraped,
replaced the back, put it all back together again, refinished it, put in new glass shelves and touch
tone lighting, and now Lani has a beautiful china cabinet in her house. He was so proud of it
and we are too.

  3 I looked around Dave's living room in his condo and counted 7 wooden things Darrell had
refinished for him. Dave's proud of them too.

But the most amazing thing about Darrell was his capacity to love--and so many of you here
know that because he has touched you with his love. I am so grateful to have had the privilege
of being loved by him for 48 years. Thanks, Darrell.
