FADE IN:
EXT. NEIGHBORHOOD - MORNING
TITLE CARD: ALLENTOWN, TEXAS
We see several dozen Humvees and military vehicles.
They cruise up and down the streets. Houses line up
the neighborhood on either side. A black Humvee
SLOWS
to a crawl. HALTS out front of one home.
A homeless man greets the driver. They talk unheard
words. The homeless man gestures toward the house
behind him. We see three soldiers step from the
Humvee. They slowly approach the tucked away
home.
Two of the soldiers are short. One flanks the rest,
perhaps a good foot and a half taller than the other
two. This is CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON of the
elite task force 'Red Squad One'.
FULL SHOT SOLDIERS APPROACHING HOME
They carry semi-automatic weapons. All aimed
forward. Captain John Harrison leads the way. They
hold a battling ram.
ANGLE ON HOME
It seems a typical house. Tucked just off the street,
surrounded by hedges and freshly cut grass.
2

FULL SHOT HOUSE FROM STREET P.O.V. --
CONTINUOUS
The soldiers slowly advance on the house. Closer
inspection reveals it is run down. Wood hangs loose
from several dozen places. Paint has long PEELED
OFF. The front porch lies hazardously close to
falling. The front screen door is ASKEW.
FULL SHOT INSIDE HOUSE -- MOMENTS
LATER
We see two, young couples cross-legged on a carpet.
They are drinking and smoking crack.
FULL SHOT INSIDE HOUSE -- CONTINUOUS
A loud CRACK is heard. The front door FLIES
inward, barely missing the couples.
The soldiers rush in. Weapons aimed. Battling ram is
dropped.
ANGLE ON COUPLES
They SCREAM with terror. The soldiers are around
them, dragging them from the front room and out of
the house.
FULL SHOT HOUSE FROM STREET P.O.V. --
CONTINUOUS
The soldiers lay the KICKING and SCREAMING
3

couples to the grassy ground. Captain John Harrison
lowers his M-16. Eyes the two females.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(authority)
I'm Captain Harrison from Red Squad One. No
doubt you've heard of us.
He sees the crack pipe fall from one of the girl's
hands.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
And...I'm sure...that isn't the reason we're here.
He KICKS the pipe to the nearby sidewalk. A dog
runs up to it. Picks it up and disappears.
FULL SHOT HOUSE FROM STREET P.O.V. --
MOMENTS LATER
The couples are now standing, SHOUTING at the
soldiers.
The scene is chaotic. Captain Harrison draws his
pearl handle pistol. SHOOTS up in the sky.
Everyone on the grass quiets down.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(yelling)
Shut the hell up!
Nobody says a word. Even his soldiers seem afraid to
speak.
4

CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
If you'd paid attention to your local news
station...you'd see that there's a plague eating at the
very heart and soul of our country! That's the reason
we're here today, people!
He looks to where the dog with the pipe has
disappeared.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Not for stupid crack smoking! But of course...we can
always take that into consideration, if you know what
I mean.
FULL SHOT FIRST COUPLE -- CONTINUOUS
The young man easily steps forward. Shaking. In his
hand he is STILL CARRYING a beer can. It FALLS
to the grass. He looks at the tall leader of the soldiers.

FIRST MAN
(nervous)
Yes...sir...we know of the disease. It's all over the
news...and papers. But what's that gotta do with us?
We're just...partying...that's all.
ANGLE ON CAPTAIN HARRISON
He HOLSTERS his pearl handle pistol. Stares at the
young man.
5

CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(slowly)
Well...son...it has everything to do with you, and your
friends. We were told of this house...just moments
ago. The person warned us about...
His eyes slowly DART back and forth from each of
the couples.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
...the possibility of one of you having it!
ANGLE ON COUPLES
The couples SCREAM their disbelief.
A girl from the second couple tries to RUSH the
soldiers. She is held back by her boyfriend.
FIRST MAN
(shocked)
No fuckin' way, dude! Ain't no one here got that
fuckin' disease! Don't you think if that was the case,
that we'd be hanging out...?
FULL SHOT HOUSE FROM STREET P.O.V. --
CONTINUOUS
We see the man from the second couple fall to the
grassy ground. He screams in agony, while holding
his belly. He tears at his shirt, exposing his rolling
gut.
6

FULL SHOT MAN'S BELLY -- CONTINUOUS
It rolls up and down like something was trying to get
out.
ANGLE ON CAPTAIN HARRISON
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(yelling)
We've got a rogue! Quickly...
It is too late.
ANGLE ON INFECTED MAN
His belly caves open gushing forth his bloody guts.
They spill to the ground like a nest of snakes.
ANGLE ON CAPTAIN HARRISON
He leaps backwards; knowing all to well what would
happen if he did not. His other guards aim their
weapons.
FULL SHOT HOUSE FROM STREET P.O.V. --
CONTINUOUS
The other couples leap away from their dying friend.
The animated intestines slide from him like
earthworms from a can.
The captain has his rifle.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(screaming at the other couples)
Get the fuck out of the way!!
7

We witness the guardsmen open fire at the horrifying
scene. The young man's face MELTS away as bullets
RIP through it.
The bloody intestines manage to CRAWL some feet
from the lifeless body of the man. They rise ten feet
into the air like some freak joke of a cobra from an
Arabian Knights' tale. Then just as suddenly the
ropy coils collapse into a long string of pulsating,
lumpy matter. They become still.
ANGLE ON CAPTAIN HARRISON
He falls to one knee, thankful.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(using cell phone type radio)
This is Captain Harrison of Red Squad One. We
discovered the rogue. All is clean...at least here
anyway. We need a mop up team right away.
He puts away the radio-cell. Watches as the other
couples are inspected and released.
FULL SHOT HOUSE FROM STREET P.O.V. --
LATER
We see armored-type vehicles parked on the street.
Two guys in protected suits are doing the dirty job of
cleaning up the mess. The young man's body is
placed in back of a hearse. The thing that came out
8

of him is placed in a round drum and sealed shut.
Outside it are the words: ROGUE #256.
A tall, black soldier walks up to Captain Harrison.
He has his weapon shouldered. This is SHEPARD,
Captain Harrison's 1st in command.
SHEPARD
(concerned)
Sir...I just thought you gotta know...none of those
kids had their Health Card. Or for that matter...their
Plague Meds.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(puzzled)
What? That's the second time this week. Shep...I
guess we've better write it down like before. And
when we get back to HQ, I'll have another talk with
Doc.
Shepard nods his head. He watches the hearse and
armor vehicles drive away.
SHEPARD
Well, sir, at least this area's clean.
ANGLE ON CAPTAIN HARRISON
We see him rubbing his pearl handled pistols. He
looks up at the black man and grins.
9

CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Is it really, Shep? Is it really clean?
He turns, walks back toward his Humvee. Shepard
looks at him leave and SHAKES his head with
wonder.

CUT TO:
INT. MARY SUE IN CAR -- MOMENTS LATER
We see a young woman (in her 30's). She inserts a
CD into her radio. 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun'
POPS on loud and clear. Her fingers TAP the
steering wheel, going along with the old, 80's music.
This is MARY SUE, Captain John's wife.
She TAPS her bluetooth device in her ear. Dials her
husband's cell number. After a few attempts, she
halts it.

MARY SUE
(frustrated)
Dammit, John, don't you ever answer your cell?
FULL SHOT STREET LIGHT TURNING RED
We see her look in surprise. She SLAMS on the
brakes.
BACK TO MARY SUE IN CAR
10

She is FORCED to the steering wheel then back
against the seat. We hear her groceries in the back as
they slide, CRASHING against the back of the seat.
MARY SUE
(pissed off)
Goddam street lights!! And...my groceries? I bet
they're just ruined!!
We hear a LOUD TAPPING noise on a window. It's
Mary's driver side window. With closer inspection,
we see it's a city cop. He is holding paper work in his
hands.
POLICE OFFICER
(shouting on other side of window)
Roll’re down, ma'am! You've just ran a red
light...going 40 in a 25...and just stopped right in the
middle of the street, blocking traffic. Now...roll it
down, please!
ANGLE ON MARY SUE
We see by the look on her face that she is not pleased.
MARY SUE
(still upset)
Oh...okay, Officer.
She ROLLS down the window. Stares at the officer's
mirrored sunglasses. They reflect her face right
11

back.
MARY SUE
Sorry, sir, wasn't paying no mind. None at all.
FULL SHOT CAR FROM STREET P.O.V.
We see the police officer from the driver's side
window. Mary Sue behind the wheel.
POLICE OFFICER
Ma'am...I need your driver's license...insurance...and
proof of plague card.

MARY SUE
Oh...yes sir.
She DIGS through her purse. PULLS out the
documents. HANDS them to the officer. He takes
them.
POLICE OFFICER
(surprised)
Oh...if I knew you were John's wife...I let you go. But
things being the way they are and all...
MARY SUE
Yes, sir, I know.
The police officer hands back her documents, plus
the driver license size plague card.
12

POLICE OFFICER
If I hadn't written down on this ticket...I could let
you go...with just a warning.
We see him TEAR the ticket up. PITCH it up in the
air. It RAINS back down in pieces.
POLICE OFFICER
Hell with it. Mrs. Harrison...just be careful next
time...alright?
She puts her stuff back inside her purse. SNAPS it
shut.
MARY SUE
(surprised)
Thanks...but won't you get into trouble?
The police officer stands and smiles.
POLICE OFFICER
No, ma'am...don't believe so. As long as your Health
Card is active...and no serious damage was done...the
law says it is up to the officer at the way he handles
all traffic stops. Besides...I and the Sheriff go way
back.
Mary looks up at him. Again sees her reflection in his
sunglasses.
MARY SUE
Ah...thanks again.
13

The officer just waves her on. Other cars behind her
follow, picking up speed.
ANGLE ON POLICE OFFICER
We see him stare as Mary drives away. He SMILES.
Gets in his patrol car. Starts it. Drives the opposite
way.
BACK TO MARY SUE IN CAR
She PULLS up into her driveway. Gets out.
COLLECTS the groceries. Goes into the house.
INT. INSIDE HOUSE -- DAY
Mary Sue WORKS her way through the doorway.
FIGHTS with the groceries. Her cocker spaniel
comes out of hiding. LEAPS UP AND DOWN like a
spring gone crazy.
MARY SUE
(breath of exhaustion)
Hello...Dollar Bill...how you doing? Now get down,
boy, get down.
She finally makes it inside the house. UNPACKS the
groceries.
MARY SUE
Honey...I'm home!
There's no reply from John.
Going to the frig, she PUTS away the eggs, milk and
14

meat, and as she thought, drinkable ice cream.
MARY SUE
Dam red lights!!
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Dam what?
We see him entering the kitchen. He kisses her on the
neck.
MARY SUE
(upset)
Oh, honey, I almost got a ticket today. I mean...it's
not like I didn't deserve one...
John puts his hand to her lips. She stops talking.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(slowly)
Not fair to others...but it helps having a captain for a
husband these days.
FULL SHOT - KITCHEN
They put away the rest of the groceries.
MARY SUE
I guess...I better take a shower, honey.
She goes toward the bedroom. Takes her shirt off.
Disappears within the darken room.
15

FADE OUT:
FADE IN:
INT. DINING ROOM -- EVENING
Mary enters the dining room. Discovers the table
arranged for a queen. Candles sit on either side of
two plates of hot, steamy food.
DOLLYING BEHIND, we follow her to the kitchen.
She discovers John withdrawing a large bottle of
champagne from the frig.
MARY SUE
(surprised)
Oh, John, you shouldn't have! I...mean all the
trouble you must have gone through!
We see John meet her halfway. They kiss.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(softly)
You always do it...so I thought it was about time I
did. Besides, I bought a cookbook the other day and
was dying to try it out.
They hug one another with laughter. After, they sat
at the table. John pours the wine into the glasses.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
How was work today, honey?
16

MARY SUE
Oh, 'bout the same, except for the 'almost ticket'
ordeal. After that ...I guess it was come and go, you
know. What 'bout you?
He puts the champagne back into its ice holder.
Stares at her.

CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(slowly)
Another one was found, honey. It was a rogue. It was
between Nurse Street and Paul. Just a bunch of kids
actually, using drugs. None of them had their Health

Cards, though. Also, they didn't have their anti-
plague medicines.
MARY SUE
(sadness)
I'm...so sorry, John.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Goddam sickness! If they would just take their pills,
it's that simple, Mary.
He looks away toward the open window.
17

CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Mary, baby, let's not discuss this anymore tonight,
okay?
Mary sees the sadness in his eyes. Also the anger.
MARY SUE
Sorry, honey.
We see her face. It turns to almost horror.
MARY SUE
Honey...did you take...
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(interrupts her)
Yes, I did. You?
MARY SUE
Just about to...after we finish eating.
PAN TO WALL CLOCK
We see it READS 7:10.
BACK TO SCENE
The couples finish their supper. They place the
dishes in the dishwasher. Mary glances over at John.
We see he has retreated to the living room.
Mary PRESSES the dishwasher button. It KICKS
on. She gathers up the scraps to feed their cocker
spaniel, Dollar Bill. She gives him two oval-shaped
pills. The dog swallows them like they were chicken
18

bones.
MARY SUE
Now...Dollar Bill...you won't catch that nasty, old
bug.
We see the dog wag its tail, happy as all out hell.
INT. LIVING ROOM -- MOMENTS LATER
We see John leaning back in a Lay-Z Boy recliner.
He is watching the flat panel TV that hangs from the
far wall. On the screen, we see the World News.
CLOSE SHOT - WORLD NEWS ON TV SCREEN
We see a news anchor on the screen. This is TED
NELSON, the World News Anchor of channel 12
news. He is behind an oak desk. Behind him is a
picture of dead cows in a clearing covered with dead
grass.
TED NELSON
(smiling widely)
This is Ted Nelson, coming to you from TV News 12.
Where your world is known...and live.
The anchor straightens a bunch of papers up in front
of him. He reads from one.
TED NELSON
This just in. More dead cows from England have
been identified as having the dreaded disease known
19

as Zr74. As you well know, the horrid disease was
discovered at the crash sight of the space shuttle,
Guide II.
Ted Nelson turns to face another camera. Smiling as
he always did, no matter what the news.
TED NELSON
Yes, we remember that it was discovered in Section
Zr74 in the plains of New Mexico. The shuttle was
using the bacteria for studies on diseases of the
future. It should also be noted that the virus, Zr74,
was a bacteria that has been dormant for well over
50 million years.
PAN TO CAPTAIN HARRISON
He sips a bottle of beer. His wife hugs up next to him.
She is drinking a wine cooler.
CLOSE SHOT - TV SCREEN

TED NELSON
You know, the scientists brought the microbes back
to life. Within Guide II, they took the bacteria to
outer space to do research. But, as luck would have
it, the shuttle crashed on re-entry.
Ted grabs a new set of papers. Begins to read.
20

TED NELSON
The London Times reports this is where this horrid
monster of a plague came from. But, people, I don't
believe that for one minute. My opinion is that
this...whatever it is...has come to us for other reasons
unknown to us. But whatever the reason, space
crash or other, don't worry, people.
He smiles BIG for the camera.
TED NELSON
Our government has got it under control. With the
Anti-plague medicines you can get at any pharmacy,
the disease won't even harm you. Some say it's now
as extinct as the dinosaurs are.
Ted Nelson GRINS. Reads another report.
TED NELSON
And as of yesterday, the space shuttle's escape pod
has been placed in a...yet undisclosed location. My
sources say that is where the 'things' were actually
hatched from. But, once again, I think otherwise.
PAN TO CAPTAIN HARRISON
He uses the remote. Turns Ted Nelson off.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(pissed)
Extinct...my ass! Let that bastard ride with me
21

sometime. I'll show him extinct!
He gets off the chair. Helps Mary up also.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Common, baby, let's get some sleep. I've got a feeling
tomorrow's going to be a big day.

FADE OUT:
FADE IN:
EXT. OLD MILLER ROAD -- NIGHT
We see a patrol car hidden behind a large oak tree.
An old Apache Chevy pickup SPEEDS by the patrol
car doing at least seventy-five miles per hour. Dirt
and dust FLY all about.
ANGLE ON PATROL OFFICER
We see that it is the same officer that almost gave
Mary her ticket. This is Officer WILLIAM
WALKER.
OFFICER WILLIAM WALKER
(pissed off)
Goddam speeder!
He FLIPS his flashing bar lights on. Pulls onto the
road. He stomps the gas, going after the truck. He
now turns on the siren as the truck fails to slow. We
hear the siren SCREAMING through the becoming
22

darkness.
Officer William turns on the police radio.
OFFICER WILLIAM WALKER
This is Unit 35. I'm in hot pursuit of a tan and blue
'68 Apache Chevy pickup. License number is...
He peers through the dust of the looming dirt road
they had just run upon.
OFFICER WILLIAM WALKER
...Nancy Zebra Yellow 457. Request backup to block
the end of Old Miller Road...now SH 67. Over.
We hear DISPATCH answer.
DISPATCH
Have received, Unit 35. Sheriff MacAurther says he's
on the way. ETA is...15 minutes. The license you
called off belongs to Larry S. Jickens. Residence:
Centerville, Route 45. Over and out.
FULL SHOT PICKUP FROM PATROL CAR'S
P.O.V. -- CONTINUOUS
The Apache PU SPINS its back tires SPRAYING the
black and white with rocks and sand.
PAN TO PATROL OFFICER
OFFICER WILLIAM WALKER
(mad)
Goddam you, Jickens, just wait until I catch up with
23

you boy!
He STOMPS the gas. Glancing at the MPH he
discovers he is going 65 and gaining.
OFFICER WILLIAM WALKER
If I ruin this patrol car...I'll have that kid's...
The patrol officer GRUNTS in pain. His insides seem
to tie up in a knot. Just as fast as it came on, the pain
ceases.
OFFICER WILLIAM WALKER
I've...got to remember to take my...meds!
FULL SHOT - PICKUP TRUCK
We see the Apache PU try going down a logging
road. It appears against it at the last second. SKIPS
back onto the dirt road. The truck SWIRLS to and
fro almost hitting the ditch.
PAN TO SIGN POST
We see that it reads 'Pearl Lake 1 Mile'.
ANGLE ON JICKENS
He sits behind the truck's steering wheel. WIPES
sweat from his forehead.
JICKENS
(scared)
Oh...shit! Oh...shit! If not for that damned parole I'd
pulled over five miles back and got my ticket with a
24

smile. But...man...I ain't goin' back to jail! Hell no!
He STOMPS the gas with a grin. He spies the Pearl
Lake sign.
CLOSE SHOT - REAR-VIEW MIRROR
Jickens sees nothing but SWIRLING dust. No sign of
the cop.
JICKENS
(laughing now)
Where'd you go, Smoky? Lost in my dust, are you?
FULL SHOT - CHEVY TRUCK -- CONTINUOUS
We see Jickens turn his truck sharply to the left. He
SLAMS on the breaks while doing so. The Apache
PU comes to a cloudy halt. The black and white
patrol car SPEEDS out of the flying dust and toward
the pickup.
FULL SHOT PEARL LAKE ROAD -- MOMENTS
LATER
We see the PU come to a cloudy halt. The black and
white WHEELS to the right, just missing the truck.
The patrol car CRASHES through a thicket and
PLUNGES into the lake. It starts to go under.
ANGLE ON JICKENS
He stares through the darkness. Sees nothing. We
hear only the patrol car BUBBLING as it goes
25

beneath the water.
Jickens LEAPS from his truck. Runs for where he
thought the patrol car went under the waves.
JICKENS
(terrified)
Oh...Lordy! Lordy!!
He DIVES into the dark water. Comes back up
empty handed.
JICKENS
Good God...what have I done? I just...killed
someone! Hell...a cop at that! Shit...I'll be hunted for
the rest of my...life!
Spying his Apache pickup nearby, Jickens RUNS
toward it. LEAPS into the front seat. He is about to
start it. Discovers the keys missing.
JICKENS
What...the fuck? Where are they?
OFFICER WILLIAM WALKER (O.S.)
Looking for these, son?
Turning toward the voice, Jickens sees a hand
holding a pistol. It's aimed at him. The other hand
holds his dangling, pickup keys. The owner of the
hands is none other than the patrol officer. He is
drenched as a sponge.
26

We see Jickens fall back in his seat. He's greatly
stunned at the turn of events.
JICKENS
(scared)
Oh...Officer...I can explain, sir.
FULL SHOT OFFICER WILLIAM WALKER --
CONTINUOUS
OFFICER WILLIAM WALKER
Yeap...you sure as hell can, son. Oh, by the
way...you're under arrest.

FADE OUT:
FADE IN:
INT. JOHN HARRISON'S HOUSE -- NIGHT
We see Mary Sue open her pulse. She removes a
small medicine bottle. Clearly written on it are the
words: A-Meds Class 2. She takes out two, oval-
shaped, blue pills. Pops them into her mouth
followed by a full glass of water.
MARY SUE
(smiling)
There...won't catch it now.
We follow her as she goes to the bathroom, then
retrieves to the bedroom. She rubs her belly with a
27

grin.
MARY SUE
Oh...I hate that feeling it leaves in your belly. Kinda
like tiny... bubbles.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Yeap...that's what the physicians tells everyone at the
clinic...or the hospitals for that matter. They say
that's how you can tell it's working.
We see him enter the bedroom from the kitchen.
FULL SHOT BEDROOM -- CONTINUOUS
The light is on. The couples are in bed. Mary Sue
rubs John's forehead.
MARY SUE
You sound skeptical, honey.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Why wouldn't I be, Sue? Hell... everyday they're
telling us it's getting better and better. Shit...to hear
them talk, you swear the damn crisis was over with.
Mary removes her glasses. Lays them on the night
stand.

MARY SUE
(wondering)
But...isn't it? It's slowing down somewhat surely,
28

John?
We see him grin at his wife. They kiss long and hard.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(loving)
Yeah...honey...I guess it is.
With this, he checks the thermostat. Adjusts it to 65
degrees. Crawls back under the covers with Mary.
ANGLE ON MARY SUE
She glances around the room. Sees her husband's
clothes thrown about.
MARY SUE
(jokingly)
John...when are you gonna stop throwing your
clothes around? I mean ...here you are, Captain of
the elite force known as 'Red Squad'.
She crawls on top of him, giggling like a little girl.
MARY SUE
Captain? Can you dig that?
Again, she laughs, hugging him as she does so.
MARY SUE
Honey...I know how hectic your job is. I'm
just...trying to make you laugh a little.
John smiles at his loving wife as they hold one
another.
29

CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
I know, baby.
He looks around the room. Sees his clothes hanging
from chairs, the computer, and even a pair of his
underwear halfway in and out of the bathroom. He
laughs aloud.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
I...see what you mean, Sue.
As suddenly as he starts laughing, he quits as a wall
calendar catches his eye.

CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(low whisper only his wife could hear)
Oh, God, tomorrow is...another day. Honey...I don't
know...if I can stand the pressures anymore.
He looks deep and loving into Mary's eyes. They hold
one another tight under the sheets.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(sadness)
Sweet, sweet, Mary Sue...what can I do...to stop those
bastards? I mean ...once and for all?
He seems on the verge of crying. Mary moves closer.
Caresses his rough face.
30

MARY SUE
(talking slowly)
Don't do this to yourself, John. You have an
important role to fulfill. If not for you, honey, many
of the citizens of this town...would be in danger. You
keep...the streets safe for them, and their families.
She smiles deeply. Lips closer to her husband's.
MARY SUE
Remember...what you told me when you became a
member of Red Squad, just right after you returned
from Iraq?
John nods as Mary's fingers rests on his left
shoulder.
MARY SUE
You said that the work of this job would never get to
you...eat at you like a...virus itself. You said...it was
the outcome of it that really matters. When you see a
mother and daughter walking down the street...or
shopping at the mall...you knew that they would be
safe from that monster. The monster that made
terrorists seem like toy GI Joe dolls.
John's stares down at her soft neck.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(softly, with love)
31

Yes...I remember, honey. But most of that
was...before this goddam plague.
She rubs his arm, pushing the sheets away from his
naked body.
MARY SUE
But, darling, your job...mission...is to protect the
citizens...no matter what.
Mary's lips moves onto his. John was unwilling at
first, but then gives in.
MARY SUE
(softly in John's ear)
And...John...they need you now... more than ever
before.
He embraces her. Rolls her on top of him. Their
bodies melt into one. Mary's nightgown falls away as
they make love.

FADE OUT:
FADE IN:
INT. JOHN HARRISON'S HOUSE -- MORNING
We watch as John finishes his breakfast. He checks
his watch. It is almost seven in the morning. He gets
up from the table. Starts checking himself. Making
sure everything was ready. He is wearing a two-
32

piece, black smart, armor suit. Two, pearl handle
pistols hang from his hips. Around his waist is the
cartridge belt.
John draws the right pearl handle pistol. Firmly
holds it in his left hand. Checks the chamber. It's
loaded and ready for the day that lies ahead.
We hear Mary coming. He quickly holsters the pistol.
They meet at the room's threshold. Kiss.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
I guess it's time to go, Sue. You watch yourself
today...okay?
He eases toward the front door. Mary stops him.
Turning, he sees a faint smile on her face.
MARY SUE
(slowly)
John...you be careful, too, alright?
She kisses him goodbye.

CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(smiling)
I will, honey. They need me out there. At least that's
what a wise and wonderful woman once told me.
Mary closes up next to him. Whispers.
33

MARY SUE
You know...that wise woman was right.
FULL SHOT OUTSIDE DOOR OF HOUSE FROM
STREET P.O.V. -- CONTINUOUS
John steps onto the walkway. Their cocker spaniel
greets him. Tail wagging.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Hey, Dollar Bill, how you feeling today? Now get
down, boy, get down.
This goes on until John reaches his military Humvee
that's parked out front. He glances back at his wife
who is still wearing her night gown.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(grinning)
Hon...don't forget your morning meds...and Dollar's
too.
MARY SUE
Don't worry, John. It'll be just fine.
FULL SHOT HUMVEE -- CONTINUOUS
John gets inside, closes the door. It cranks up. Pulls
onto the street. Soon disappears from sight.
ANGLE ON DOLLAR BILL
He bites at invisible ghost. Goes to his hiding place
underneath the house. The cocker spaniel curls into a
34

ball and lies still with small CRIES of pain.

DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. RED SQUAD'S HQ -- MORNING
John pulls the Humvee into the parking lot right next
to a dark, Chevy van and a small, Vega station
wagon. He KILLS the engine. Stares at the three
story building just to his left.
John opens the door. Gets halfway out. Hears a
SCREAM of bloody murder.
Looking in the direction in which it continues, John
sees a badly dressed man RUNNING his way. The
SCREAMING man RUNS in and out and around
parked vehicles.
We see two soldiers behind the running man. They
are WELDING M-16's, but weren’t using them
because of the parking lot and possible bystanders.
ANGLE ON CAPTAIN HARRISON
He SLAMS the Humvee's door. DRAWS one of his
pistols as the SCREAMING man comes closer still.
ANGLE ON SCREAMING MAN
He TRIPS and FALLS belly first on the parking lot's
asphalt. We hear a skull-crushing THUD.
Keeping their distance, the two soldiers reach his
35

side. Their weapons AIMED and ready just in case.
Captain John reaches the soldiers and downed man.
We see the SCREAMING man now appear to be
SQUIRMING in agony.
Bending down next to the man, John looks up at the
soldiers.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Is this man...infected?
One of the soldiers, a tall, muscular black man, steps
forward. We see that is Shepard, dress in full, smart-
body armor.
SHEPARD
(pushes his helmet back on his head)
Ah, yes, sir, we believe so. We found him wandering
down next to the lake. He was just like
this...screaming and running. So...we took after him.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(wondering)
What the hell do you mean by that? Does he...or
doesn't he...have the plague?
FULL SHOT SCREAMING MAN ON GROUND --
CONTINUOUS
No one has to answer the Captain's question. The
man stops SCREAMING and lies still. His blue jeans
36

begin to BULGE from the butt. The fabric
STRETCHES to unknown limits. It RIPS apart
THROWING blood and tar-looking wastes all about
like a horrid baby being born.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(screaming)
Holy...shit...it's a rogue!
FULL SHOT JOHN, MAN AND SOLDIERS FROM
SKY'S P.O.V. -- CONTINUOUS
John LEAPS to one side, AIMS his pistol. Behind the
pouring void, we see a slimy, snake-like head OOZE
out, followed by a long, slender body created from
the man's own intestines.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Now...goddam it! Shoot the sonofabitch now!!
Captain John puts a single bullet into the man's
skull. It BLOWS away with FLYING brain matter.
The two soldiers BLAST the dead man. His
JUMPING body looks like a bloody doll full of pin
holes.
The slimy, snake-like creature makes it halfway
through its host's anus. It falls to the ground. Lies
dead in a puddle of blood and smelly wastes. Flies
have already found their dinner.
37

FULL SHOT JOHN AND THE TWO SOLDIERS
John lowers his pistol in horror. The black soldier
stands there wide eyed at seeing something straight
out of a horror movie. The other soldier, a young
man, falls to the ground, knees first. He GAGS.
THROWS up his early breakfast of oatmeal and eggs
onto the pavement with a SPLAT!
FULL SHOT JOHN, MAN AND SOLDIERS FROM
SKY'S P.O.V. -- MORNING
In their hearse-like vehicle, the Scrub Unit (SU)
drives up. They wear yellow, protective suits. They
start the task of removing the corpse and the eerie
creature that came from it. As the Scrub Unit's
driver closes the rear door, John approaches him
with dead-like eyes.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Why...is this happening?
The DRIVER, a young man, SHAKES the bubble
helmet that covers his head.
DRIVER
(sadly)
Mister...if I knew that...I sure as hell put a stop to it.
His voice is MUFFLED by the balloon helmet he
wears.
38

He CROSSES over to the driver's side. Opens the
door. Climbs into the front seat. He is surprised as
two, strong hands GRAB him by the protective suit's
neck attachment. YANKS him out of the hearse and
to the ground.
It is Captain John. He PICKS the driver up again.
THROWS him once more to the pavement. Helmet
SMASHES against ground.
DRIVER
(terrified)
No...please...sir...no!!
Again, the MUFFLED voice.
John reaches for the young driver again. His hands
WRAP around the suit's protective layer. Reaches
the man's throat.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(pissed)
Tell me, son, those pills we take don't work...do they?
Goddammit it ...tell me boy!!
He is about to SLAP the kid. The black guard pulls
him away. Holds his arms back.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Lemme go, dammit...lemme go!!
The black soldier pays him no mind. The young
39

driver gets off the ground. WIPES the blood from his
nose. Looks at the crazed captain.
DRIVER
(mad)
Mister...your commanding officer will hear 'bout
this!
He grins at the captain who's still being held by
Shepard.
DRIVER
Yeah...buddy...you'll be lucky if you get a job in the
wasteland of...
The driver LEAPS for the safety of his hearse. The
black soldier releases John. RUSHES for him. The
door SHUTS in the soldier's face. The window is
down.
Grabbing the young driver's protective shirt collar,
the black guard grins.
SHEPARD
(angry)
Kid...if you're still here when I count to ten, I'll finish
the Captain's job for him!! Now...get!!
He lets go of the driver. The hearse starts up. Takes
off down the street in the direction in which it drove
up.
40

The black soldier slowly walks up to John.
SHEPARD
Sorry, sir, but you may have hurt him, if allowed any
further action.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(shakes odd feeling from himself)
Or...maybe...got some answers from the little
bastard. Well...ain't no since crying over spilt
milk...let's go, men. We still have a big day ahead of
us.
We see the threesome turn. Head for Red Squad
HQ's.

FADE OUT:
FADE IN:
EXT. DIRT ROAD -- DAY
We see a black and white turn down an old dirt road
that resembles more of a goat trail actually. This is
Officer William Walker. He is on patrol.
ANGLE ON PATROL OFFICER
OFFICER WILLIAM WALKER
(whispering to himself)
Why is it fights always take place twenty miles from
nowhere?
41

He laughs with every word.
OFFICER WILLIAM WALKER
What am I suppose to do when I catch them? Give
'em tickets for speedy fists? Hell...this is the city's
job...not mine. Shit...I'm highway patrol ...not a city
cop. But...Sheriff Johnny Dean wants me on it...so
here I am.
We see him smile at himself in the rear view mirror.
Adjusts his sunglasses.
OFFICER WILLIAM WALKER
Yeah...thanks a lot...Sheriff!
FULL SHOT PATROL CAR FROM SKY'S P.O.V. -
- DAY
We see the telephone poles slowly disappear with the
rest of civilization. The patrol car is traveling
through goat trails of dirt. Then almost nothing to
call a road.
OFFICER WILLIAM WALKER
Well...I always wondered what Bum Fuck Egypt
looked like. Now...I know.
We see an old, wooden house with a wrap around
screen porch. Officer Walker pulls in beside a red,
four wheel drive Dodge. He stops the patrol car.
ANGLE ON PATROL OFFICER
42

He stares around the surroundings. Sees nothing but
the old house, uncut weeds and the forest right
behind it.
He steps from the patrol car. SCREAMS.
COLLAPSES to the ground. Walker RUBS his belly
in agony.
OFFICER WILLIAM WALKER
Damned...hot peppers. Should have cut 'em from
that sandwich. But...to be on the safe side...
He slowly stands. WOBBLES some. Withdraws a
bottle of pills from his pocket. Takes the lid off.
POURS four, green-looking pills into his palm.
Quickly DRY SWALLOWS them. We can hear
shortly afterward that Officer Walker's belly starts
to GROWL AND POP like a massive gas
attack...then quits as soon as it starts.
OFFICER WILLIAM WALKER
(patting his belly)
Now...that should kill anything down there. Yeah...I
feel better already.
He smiles. Watches the house.
OFFICER WILLIAM WALKER
(jokes to himself)
Yeah...pop, pop, fizz, fizz...oh what a relief...it is!
43

He LAUGHS aloud. Watches a blue jay fly from one
tree branch to another.
He closes the car door behind him. DRAWS HIS
PISTOL. Advances to the four-wheel drive. PEERS
through one of the open windows. Sees nothing but
cut-off shorts and beer cans. Strangest of all we see
the keys still in the ignition.
Officer Walker crosses over to the truck's hood.
Places a hand on it.
OFFICER WILLIAM WALKER
(wondering)
Just as I thought...cold. Those kids must've of been
here for sometime now. But...where in hell have they
gone off to?
He advances over to the old house. CLIMBS the
unstable porch. Eases up to the front door. OPENS
IT. WALKS INSIDE.
INT. OLD HOUSE -- CONTINUOUS
It is cluttered with torn chairs, coaches, broken
dressers and tables. The walls had graffiti written all
over them. They said things like: LUCY GIVES
GOOD HEAD. JOE’S A GOOD FUCK. YOU’D
FOUND THE HANGOUT, and more written
sideways, upside down, and some even on the ceiling.
44

The ceiling was hanging down in some places.
Roaches seemed to have made residence here. In one
corner, a large rat runs for cover behind an old,
broken stove.
Officer Walker enters the first room. He PANICS.
Makes sure his pistol is loaded.
OFFICER WILLIAM WALKER
Please...Jesus...don't let these poor kids...have it!
Searching the surroundings, he sees nothing but
whisky bottles and beer cans galore.
OFFICER WILLIAM WALKER
(smiling)
Well...at least now I know where the local hangout is.
Even says so on the wall.
He advances back outside, pistol still ready. Heads
toward his car. Something in his front seat DRAWS
HIS ATTENTION. It is long and red. He eases
closer, gun at the ready. YANKS his driver side door
open, ready to shoot.
FULL SHOT PATROL CAR
To his AMAZED EYES, the reddish cat he'd ever
seen LEAPS from the front seat. It HITS THE
GROUND. Takes off toward the woods.
45

OFFICER WILLIAM WALKER
(grinning with sweat)
Goddam fuckin' cat! Should have blasted your ass!
He GRABS his radio mike. PRESSES the button.
OFFICER WILLIAM WALKER
Unit 35 to HQ. Unit 35 to HQ. I'm at the Ole Miller's
place. So far...no sign of the kids. Just their pickup.
Over?
We hear his radio CRACK THEN POP. Soon a
female voice comes across the waves.
HQ
This is HQ, Unit 35, the sheriff wants to know if you
need backup?
It is a female's voice.
OFFICER WILLIAM WALKER
Negative, HQ, I'll search a while longer. Most likely
kids pulling a prank. Over?
HQ
That's a Big 10-4. Over and out.
The radio goes silent. Hanging the mike up, he
FALLS TO HIS KNEES in agony.
OFFICER WILLIAM WALKER
(pain)
Shit!! Do...I have...to go to the bathroom...now?
46

Goddam ulcers! They'll be...my undoing one
day...sure as hell!
He reaches under the front seat. GRABS a roll of
toilet paper. Heads for the distant forest.

DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. A NEARBY LAKE -- LATER
The place is surrounded by trees giving the
resemblance that the lake is the only thing here.
We see three teenagers skinny dipping. One is a
female (GLORIA). The other two are male (BUBBA
and ROBERT). The female SWIMS over to a
nearby, muddy bank. PULLS HERSELF up onto the
weeds. Her large breasts glisten in the sunlight. Her
two friends still swim about.
GLORIA
(leans next to a log)
Hurry up you two. That five-oh'll be here any
second! And you know who they'll send?
The teenage boys SPLASH her with water.
GLORIA
(giggling)
Hey...fuck you!
47

FULL SHOT LAKE -- CONTINUOUS
Gloria DIVES back in. Underwater, she sees her
friends' legs, and on up.
The boys splash about. Robert YELLS. GRABS
himself. Bubba laughs aloud. Gloria comes up beside
him. Pushes the wet hair from her face. She laughs
also.
Robert, who grabbed himself, stares at her.
ROBERT
(joking with anger)
You...little bitch! You just took a bite out of
my...dick!
He swims toward her. CHASES HER to the muddy
bank. Bubba swims to the other side of the lake
giving his two friends privacy.
ANGLE ON ROBERT AND GLORIA
Side-by-side on the muddy bank Robert RUBS
Gloria's large tits.
ROBERT
My turn...Gloria!
She does not protest. Robert SLOWLY RUBS her
right breast, moves his hand downward.
48

CUT TO:
EXT. WOODS -- DAY
We see the patrol officer's pants down to his knees.
He SCREAMS. FALLS OVER. SCREAMS MORE.
A fifteen-foot tapeworm PULLS ITSELF from the
JERKING MAN'S ANUS. Blood and intestines
GUSH out behind it. Its long, narrow body is free of
the host. Like a slimy snake it moves through the
underbrush. MUCUS CASCADES from its bloody
body leaving a trail behind.
FULL SHOT TAPEWORM -- CONTINUOUS
We see it RISE UPWARDS LIKE A MORBID 12
FOOT COBRA. It halts. Using its bloody, football-
shaped head, it STARES AROUND its surroundings
searching for prey.
Its MOUTH CAVES OPEN. Reveals rows of sharp,
shark-like teeth. From it comes a CRY like that
heard from no other creature known.
Falling back to the ground it SLITHERS into the
thick weeds.

CUT TO:
EXT. LAKE -- DAY
We watch as Robert and Gloria make love.
49

GLORIA
(moaning)
Oh....Robert!! Robert!!!
Robert slows down his love making. Gloria CLAWS
his back.
Bubba watches from a moist root nearby. Half his
body submerged in the water.
BUBBA
(smiling)
Goddam that boy!! He sure as hell can fuck a girl!
He JUMPS with start. Nearby bushes move.
Something is moving through them. Bubba removes
his eyes from his two friends. Stares at the distant
underbrush.
Bubba eases toward the root-filled bank. Reaches for
the bushes. Spreads the leaves back. Makes ready to
catch whatever it is.
To his surprise nothing is there. Withdraws his hand.
BUBBA
Dammit...it’s gone. Sure hoped it was a snake. Love
those little fellows...even the bad ones.
He turns, heads back toward the lake. DIVES In.
SWIMS toward his friends.
50

BACK TO SCENE
Gloria wipes herself off. Robert does the same. Still
nude, they walk to where their clothes lay.
Picking up his blue jeans, Robert turns toward
Gloria.
ROBERT
Well...baby...how was it?
He pulls his pants on. FASTENS them.
Pulling her cut-off shorts up, Gloria stares at Robert.
GLORIA
(grinning)
As always, honey, it was the greatest. I swear!
We watch as they slowly put the rest of their clothes
on. Bubba climbs out of the lake. Lays back, stalk
naked. Genitals in full view.
BUBBA
(tired. out of breath)
Got...got to...rest!
Robert and Gloria eye one another with silent
laughter.
GLORIA
Well...don't rest too long, Bubba. Our meds are due
anytime now.
51

FULL SHOT WOODS -- MOMENTS LATER
Gloria and Robert walk down a trail. They follow it
until sight of the two vehicles. They come to a brisk
HALT. DASH behind a large, fallen tree. We hear
the patrol car's radio. The disembodied voice of the
dispatcher fills the air.
HQ (O.S.)
(worried)
Repeating...do you need assistance, Unit 35?
FULL SHOT ROBERT AND GLORIA --
CONTINUOUS
ROBERT
(surprise)
Shit...he's here already.
She eyes the patrol car with quarter-size pupils.
ROBERT
I guess we should have listened to you.
GLORIA
(surprised also. worried)
You can say that again! How I wish we'd never
made that stupid prank call 'bout us fightin'.
We see Robert move his head back and forth for a
better view of the patrol car.
52

ROBERT
Well...I never once thought they take it seriously this
time? Hell...we must of made that damn call a dozen
times before...and the five-oh never once showed up.
GLORIA
(sarcasm)
Well...this time...I'm afraid they did.
ROBERT
Well...where the hell is he...or them for that matter?
GLORIA
Donno...hey let's get Bubba...and get the shit
outahere before...
Her words fade. A terrifying SCREAM pierces the
woods. It's Bubba.
Gloria and Robert LEAP up. DASH for the lake.
There they HALT in terror.
FULL SHOT BUBBA FROM COUPLES P.O.V. --
CONTINUOUS
We see Bubba CRYING aloud. His bare chest and
hairy belly HEAVES UP AND DOWN at every
thrust he makes.
GLORIA
My God...he's got it!
53

BUBBA
(screaming)
Help meeeeee!!
ANGLE ON ROBERT AND GLORIA
They watch in TERROR. White as ghosts.

ROBERT
(scared. concerned)
I've got...to help 'em!
Gloria tries holding him back. He BREAKS loose.
DASHES for his fallen friend.
ROBERT
Bubba!! Bubba!! What's da matter? Where does...it
hurt?
One look is all it took. Robert knew where his friend
was hurting. GRABS Bubba by the shoulders. PINS
them to the ground.
ROBERT
(yelling)
You gotta stay still...or you'll hurt yourself even
more! Gloria... Gloria...get the pills! Hurry!!
FULL SHOT GLORIA -- CONTINUOUS
She turns. RUNS up a grassy trial. Makes a clearing.
Makes it to the four-wheel drive. YANKS the driver
54

door open.
We see her RUMMAGING through the console. She
finds the bottle of green pills. Bubba SCREAMS.
Robert YELLS, trying to reassure him. Gloria
FUMBLES the bottle with fear. Gets out of the
truck. DASHES for the trial and toward her friends.

DISSOLVE TO:
FULL SHOT ROBERT AND BUBBA -- MOMENTS
LATER
Robert lays Bubba against a tree. He is no longer
screaming. Holds his belly. Gloria is next to Robert.
They SLIDE Bubba's jeans on. FASTENS them.
GLORIA
(concern)
Is he...gonna be ok?
Robert SHAKES his head.
ROBERT
Well...it appears the pills are taking effect...but I'm
afraid we've got to get him to the hospital.

GLORIA
It's...that bad?
55

ROBERT
I...wish I knew, Gloria. I wish I knew!

CUT TO:
FULL SHOT TAPEWORM -- AFTERNOON
We see the grotesquely shaped tapeworm. It
SLITHERS into a wide clearing. CURLS up beneath
two milkweeds. Appears weak, dying. Stares about
its surroundings with HUNDREDS OF
UNBLINKING EYES. SLUMPS next to the weeds. It
is dead.

BACK TO SCENE
We see Gloria and Robert. They are about to carry
Bubba.
ROBERT
We've got to get him outahere fast. I'll carry him to
the truck. You find that cop...if the bastard's still
around.
He grabs up Bubba. Eases him over one shoulder.
GLORIA
What if he's not? What...if he has it too?
Walking up the trial, Robert turns toward Gloria.
56

ROBERT
Do...you feel like looking for him?
GLORIA
Yes, Robert, I do. He might...just need help also.
Adjusting Bubba on his shoulder, Robert walks a
little more.
ROBERT
Okay...if he's not around, get your ass back up here,
alright?
We see Gloria nod. They approach the two vehicles.
The cop is no where around. Robert GENTLY LAYS
Bubba in the dual cab of the truck.

ROBERT
(to Gloria)
Just ten minutes...alright?
Gloria nods. RUNS toward the beat up house. The
cop is not inside. RUNNING out the front door, she
glances at Robert and shakes her head.
GLORIA
(shrugging)
He's not there, Rob. Lemme check the woods!
FULL SHOT WOODS -- CONTINUOUS
She RUNS for the forest. LEAPS a bush, HITS THE
57

GROUND, SLIDES HEAD FIRST into a dead body.
We see it is the cop's. Blood and wastes SLOUCHES
all over Gloria, some gets in her wide, SCREAMING
MOUTH.
She JUMPS TO HER KNEES. The stuff in her
mouth gags her. She begins THROWING Up as the
smell and sounds of insects get to her.
GLORIA
(screaming)
My God!!!! Robert!! Robert!!
FULL SHOT GLORIA -- CONTINUOUS
She JUMPS, SCREAMING. She SLIPS IN THE
SLIMY SUBSTANCES again. Her right hand
COLLAPSES into a puddle of swarming maggots. It
sinks an inch into the dead man's excrement.
Still SCREAMING, she PULLS HERSELF FREE of
the bloody scene. We see a hand reach out for Gloria.
It grabs her by the arm.
Gloria SCREAMS at this new horror.
FULL SHOT ROBERT AND GLORIA --
CONTINUOUS
The hand belongs to Robert. He helps her to her feet.
His face white as a ghost.
58

ROBERT
(terrified)
Goddam!! Let's get the fuck outahere!!
The twosome runs back to the PU. They get inside.
Make ready to leave.
Robert tries starting the four-wheel drive. It doesn't
crank.
ROBERT
(crying)
Start...dam you...start!
We hear the engine as it just WHINES. Gloria sits
next to Robert. Watches the action with terror and
horror.
GLORIA
(terrified)
What's wrong? Why won't it start?
Robert halts the fruitless attempt of cranking the PU.
He SLAMS HIS FISTS against the dashboard.
ROBERT
(pissed)
Shit if I know, Gloria! It's a fuckin' Chevy you
know!!
ANGLE ON ROBERT AND GLORIA
We see them in the front seat of the PU. They are
59

HITTING the truck. CRYING and TERRIFIED. A
GRUNT of pain makes them stare in fear at Bubba.
He's in the rear of the truck. GRUNTS in intervals.
GLORIA
Are...there any pills left?
We see Bubba. His knees SLAM to his chest in a
CRY OF GREAT PAIN. His bare belly WRIGGLES
with waves of lumps.
Robert quickly hands Gloria the medicine bottle.
ROBERT
(yelling with wide eyes, seeing the lumps)
Here...give him some more!
Gloria takes the bottle. OPENS it. POURS two in her
hand. CLIMBS in the truck's back compartment.
She LIFTS Bubba's head. He sees the meds.
GLORIA
(calmly)
Here...take these, Bubba. You'll feel better...I
promise.

ANGLE ON BUBBA AND GLORIA
With what strength he has left, Bubba takes the pills.
SWALLOWS them without water. Rests his head
against a small pillow.
60

Gloria smiles at her friend. She reaches out to rub
his aching belly. We hear the PU crank up. Gloria
JUMPS WITH FRIGHT. The TRUCK BACKFIRES
TWICE.
ROBERT
Hold on you two...we're getting the shit outahere!!
FULL SHOT PICKUP FROM PATROL CAR'S
P.O.V. -- CONTINUOUS
The FOUR-WHEEL DRIVE SPINS BACKWARDS.
SLIDES around aiming frontward. It takes off
THROWING DUST AND ROCKS all about. It is
gone from sight of the house.
The patrol car's radio POPS on. CRACKLES.
HQ (O.S.)
Unit 35...you still there? Are you all right? We're
sending backup... rather you like it or not! Sheriff
Johnny Dean says he'll be right there! You stay
put...you hear?
No one answers the patrol car's radio. The dust
clears. The place is empty of all life.
61

FADE OUT:
FADE IN:
EXT. ALLENTOWN -- EVENING
We see the town clock right above The First National
Bank. It has LCD words ROLLING ACROSS ITS
BOTTOM HALF. We see through the TITLE CARD
what they say.
TITLE CARD:
GET YOUR ANTI-PLAGUE PILLS AT HALF
COST TODAY AND EVERY DAY AT YOUR
FRIENDLY ALLENTOWN'S DRUG STORE.
TEMP. 89 -- TIME IS 2:37PM. IT IS SATURDAY,
JUNE 1. HAVE A GOOD ONE, CITIZENS OF
ALLENTOWN. REMEMBER IT'S ALMOST
TIME TO RENEW YOUR HEALTH CARDS.
We see the same thing ROLL BY AGAIN AND
AGAIN. A FAT MAN in huge blue jeans and pull
over T-shirt watches the words SCROLL by. His
huge gut HANGS over his jeans. He RUBS his fat
fingers through his thinning hair. SPITS to the
sidewalk. Walks over to a theater.
The poster out front reveals the movie to be a sci-if:
'NOON ONE'.
62

ANGLE ON FAT MAN
He LAUGHS at the crazy movie poster of a Viking, a
massive ship, and a round-shaped reddish planet.
SNICKERS at the show's rating of PG-13. We follow
him. He heads toward the booth. A young woman sits
behind the booth with the largest tits the fat man has
ever seen. His EYES GROW MARBLE SIZE with
shock.
FULL SHOT FRONT OF THEATER --
CONTINUOUS
The woman sees the man. She just BLOWS a bubble.
POPS it aloud. Gestures to a nearby sign with the
longest of fingernails.
WOMAN
(still chewing and popping gum)
Box Office doesn't open till three-thirty, Mister.
You'll have to come back later.
She PICKS Up a nearby file. Begins cleaning her
nails.
The fat man still stares at her breasts.
FAT MAN
(slowly)
Well, then, Love, that'll give us preddy long time to
get to know one another...don't yam think?
63

He leans against the counter. Trying to regain her
attention.
FAT MAN
Common, doll, let's say you...and me make a movie
of our own. Like...a porno or somethin'?
She looks up at the man. Does not smile.
WOMAN
(angry)
I'd rather screw one of those tapeworms in the news!
Now...beat it...or I'll have you hauled off!
She smiles now. POPS ANOTHER BUBBLE. This
time bigger and louder. POP!

WOMAN
That is...if there is somethin' large enough to pick
that ass up of yours!
ANGLE ON FAT MAN
He looks sorry about the way he acted.
FAT MAN
(softly)
Gee...please forgive me, miss. I didn't mean anything
by it. It's just that...
He looks downward at his feet. Sees only his fat gut
hanging over his jeans.
64

FAT MAN
I'm...I'm real sorry, ma'am. I won't...bother you
again.
He starts to leave.
WOMAN
Sir...it's okay, I guess. Here...the show's on me,
alright.
She hands him a free movie pass.
The man takes it. SMILES.
FAT MAN
(happy)
Thanks alot, ma'am.
We see him leave the theater. He walks to the middle
of the street.
FULL SHOT STREET FROM THEATER P.O.V. --
CONTINUOUS
The fat man FALLS BACKWARDS. CRIES IN
PAIN. HIS OVERSIZE GUT ROLLS. PUSHES
UPWARDS with unseen fingers. The skin gives way
close to the navel. It RIPS. BURSTS WIDE OPEN
SPRINGING FORTH LIVE INTESTINES.
Dripping blood slings about. THE ENTRAILS
HEAVE BACK AND Forth. Pulls the rest of
themselves from the still, SCREAMING man. Behind
65

them come SLITHERING THE REST of the
innards. THEY CRAWL ONTO THE STREET like
a nest of slimy snakes.
ANGLE ON TICKET WOMAN
Hearing the SCREAMS, she RUSHES out into the
street. Sees what's taking place. SCREAMS. FALLS
TO HER KNEES. Vomits on the brick wall in front
of her.

FULL SHOT STREET FROM THEATER P.O.V. --
CONTINUOUS
The horrid tapeworms hear the woman screaming.
They quickly SLIME TOWARD HER like racing
snakes. The ticket woman looks up in time to see the
creatures lining up for attack.
She TRIES LEAPING Up. The creature of blood and
intestines JUMP her. Some DIG their way up her
skirt. Another one ATTACHES TO HER FACE.
Disappears down her throat.
JUMPING AND JERKING, she falls to the
pavement. Dies with blood flying all about.
We see a group of bystanders on the street. Seeing
the gruesome sight, and hearing the screams, they
halt, YELLING their terror as well.
66

Two of the bystanders overcome their fear. They
DASH for the monsters. The tall, towering snake-like
things are stunned as the humans LEAP onto them.
SLIME POURS from a flesh wound as one man
beats a tapeworm senseless.
A woman among the bystanders YELLS at her
boyfriend.
WOMAN BYSTANDER
Harry...for God's sake...don't!!
The tapeworms open their mouths SCREAMING a
horrid noise of pain as they are PULLED APART,
segment by segment. STICKY, SEMEN-LIKE
LIQUID SPEWS from the creatures' nubs.
STRIKING what he believes to be the grotesquely,
shaped head, one of the men, HARRY, LAUGHS
ALOUD. The monster appears to fall dead. Harry's
pants, shirt and face are SPLATTERED with the
thing's own life-giving blood. Harry continues.
POUNDING in the knob-shaped head (the scolex)
into oatmeal.
The other man with Harry GRABS for the other
tapeworm's head. It opens its mouth. We see strings
of mucus HANGING from RAZOR BLADE
HOOKS FOR TEETH.
67

We see the thing's head dive for his neck. He
SCREAMS in pain. It INSERTS its hook-teeth.
SPITS POISON.

HARRY
(horrified)
Goddamn...sonofabitch!!
He tries PULLING his comrade from the tapeworm.
The tapeworm CLAWS for dear life. ENTANGLES
AROUND THE MAN'S NECK like a python. His
friend PULLS LOOSE from Harry's grasps.
DASHES about, SCREAMING in agony. The snake-
like thing's body SQUEEZES tighter. The man's
neck SNAPS!
He FALLS near the theater, dead. The tapeworm
sucking a massive hole in his neck.
FULL SHOT STREET, THEATER AND CROWD -
- MOMENTS LATER
We see three Army Humvees and three ambulances
HAULING ASS TOWARD THE SCENE. The
vehicles BREAK TO A HALT. DOORS FLY OPEN.
Six soldiers file out of each Humvee. Eighteen in all,
they RUSH to the scene. Weapons ready.
The bystanders are quickly administered meds and
68

released from the horrid scene. Some are taken to the
nearby hospital for wash up and inspection.
The street is soon cleared of all bystanders by LOUD
PA SPEAKERS. The Scrub Units (SU's) arrives in
their hearse-like Humvees.
Captain John Harrison and Shepard inspect the
victims of the plague: the first is the body of the fat
man.
FULL SHOT CAPTAIN JOHN, SHEPARD AND
DEAD BODY -- CONTINUOUS
We see a DARK, RED CAVITY where the fat man's
mid-section once was. BLOOD AND SLIME covers
all of the dead man's features.
Not far away was another victim. This one has a
tapeworm around his neck. It seems to be
BREATHING. Its blood-covered body MOVES UP
AND DOWN. It slowly UNCOILS itself.
ANGLE ON END OF STREET
We see a barricade. It keeps out bystanders that still
peer from their stores or cars. The soldiers hold M-
16's. Warning them not to pass the barrier. It
appears the entire town has come out of their shops
to see what's happening. Shepard, the black guard,
69

holds out a hand toward the gathering people.

SHEPARD
Capt'n...what we do? Looks like we've got a party
brewing here!
BACK TO CAPTAIN HARRISON
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Just keep them outahere! We don't need any more...
A DARK SHADOW CROSSES John's face and cap.
We hear Shepard YELL a warning.
FULL SHOT CAPTAIN JOHN, SHEPARD AND
DEAD BODY
Like a twelve-foot snake, the TAPEWORM
UNCOILS from the dead body. WRAPS AROUND
SHEPARD'S BOOT. HE TRIPS. LOOSES HIS
RIFLE.
Captain John PULLS his magnum. Tries for a shot.
The monster is SWIFT. He SHOOTS anyway.
Misses. Shepard YELLS for help. The strange,
HORRID CREATURE RISES above one of the
street lamps like a WOBBLING POLE all its own. It
ROCKS BACK AND FORTH like a pendulum.
70

SHEPARD
(scared)
Capt'n...for Jesus' sake...do somethin'!!
The soldiers at the barricade hear the commotion.
THEY RUSH toward the action. Weapons at the
ready.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(angry)
Stand still...damn you!!
He takes careful aim. PULLS THE TRIGGER.
FEELS THE RECOIL. The monstrous tapeworm is
BLOWN apart. SPEWS SEMEN-LIKE BLOOD all
about. It FALLS DEAD. SMASHING AGAINST
THE THEATER AND SIDEWALK.
Shepard quickly PULLS the fire hose-like thing from
his boot. JUMPS FREE. Regains his rifle. Aims at
the down monster.
SHEPARD
(angry)
Suck me...you bastard!!
He SQUEEZES THE TRIGGER. LAUGHS. The
creature is MOWED TO SHREDS.
71

FULL SHOT STREET FROM THEATER P.O.V. --
MOMENTS LATER
The Scrub Units slowly back their Humvee-shaped
hearses up to the scene. Get out in protected suits.
SPRAY THE DEAD Bodies of the humans and
tapeworms. Put them in metal drums marked
'ROGUE #296'. They slowly drive away, toward the
hospital.

FADE IN:
EXT. PARKING LOT -- AFTERNOON
Mary Sue PULLS into a parking spot. KILLS THE
ENGINE. Steps out. Stares at the distant Sav-A-Lot
Store. People come and go out of it in regular
intervals. PEERING around the parking lot, she sees
car after car. It seems safe enough.
She PUSHES her glasses up on her nose for a better
fit. Starts across the asphalt toward the store. It
LOOMS BEFORE HER like a ship afloat on a sea.
FULL SHOT INSIDE STORE -- MOMENTS
LATER
She PUSHES a shopping cart down an aisle. Comes
to the soup section. Selects four cans of soup. She
72

visits the frozen foods, milk, eggs and coffee sections.
WHEELS THE CART up front to the check-outs
aisles.
We see the person ahead of her. An OLD MAN in his
mid- seventies. His cart is full of soda pops and
chicken.
The old man hands the CASHIER his groceries. She
collects them. RUNS THEM through the scanner.
Totals them up.
CASHIER
(smiling)
That'll be ten dollars and seventy-five cents, sir.
Oh...and I'll need to see your health card. Make sure
it's undated and everything.
The old man FUMBLES through his wallet. PULLS
out the money and his health card.

OLD MAN
(grinning)
Do I get a discount fer showing me health card?
The cashier smiles at him. COLLECTS THE
MONEY. SCANS THE HEALTH CARD through
another computer. It beeps, indicating it has past.
73

CASHIER
Only on Wednesdays, sir. I'm sorry.
She hands him his change.
CASHIER
Have a nice day, sir.
He leaves with his groceries, as a SIREN SOUNDS
around the store. Two checkout counters down, a
young woman's health card did not pass inspection.
Two soldiers QUIETLY ESCORT her from the
store. She doesn't protest.
Mary checks out, shows her health card. Leaves the
store. Heads toward her car.
FULL SHOT PARKING LOT -- MOMENTS
LATER
We see Mary. She's almost to her car. A YOUNG
MAN in his thirties RUNS FOR HER. Mary sees
this. RUNS to her car almost loosing her grocery
cart.
Almost to her car door, she sees the man almost upon
her. She FUMBLES for her keys.
MARY SUE
(screaming)
No!!! Stay away!
He GRABS HER. Her grocery cart rolls away. Its
74

STRIKES a Ford Pickup.
YOUNG MAN
(panicking)
No...I don't...have the plague!
He sounds as if he's been running for hours, if not
days.
YOUNG MAN
You're...Captain John's...wife?
Mary stares at the man's face. It appears afraid.
Sweat pouring from every muscle.

MARY SUE
(somewhat scared)
Yes...now please lemme go!!
She TRIES PULLING loose. YELLS at the same
time.
YOUNG MAN
Got to warn you! Someone!
He looks around the parking lot like a frighten child.
YOUNG MAN
The pills!! The pills!! They...are... no...good! They
contain...
We hear a loud BLAST. The man's lets loose of
Mary. COLLAPSES TO THE ASPHALT,
75

JERKING. A bloody wound appears on his back.
Blood SPEWS from it. Mary brings her hands to her
face. SCREAMS in all out terror.
She feels faint. FALLS, almost striking the dead
man. Two soldiers RUSH UP BESIDE THE
CORPSE and Mary. One holds a shotgun. The other
carries a M-16. A Humvee pulls up. The dead man is
thrown aboard it.
We see the parking lot grow with spectators. They
have heard the commotion. One of the soldiers tells
them to stand their ground. Not to come any closer.
The TALL SOLDIER helps Mary to her feet.
RETRIEVES her grocery cart.
MARY SUE
(shaken)
What...what just happened?
She FISHES through her purse for her cell phone.
Can't locate it.
MARY SUE
I...must call John!
FIRST SOLDIER
(military fashion)
The plague, Miss. He had it. Wasn't rogue yet. Just
in its early stages. We've been tracking him for days.
76

The soldier easily holds Mary's hand.
FIRST SOLDIER
Do you need help, Miss? A trip to the hospital
maybe?
Mary rubs her forehead.
MARY SUE
(confused)
No, I...don't believe so. Just seeing...all of this. It
happened so... fast.
She stares the soldier in the face. He wears dark
sunglasses.
MARY SUE
Do...you...know my husband?
The soldier grins.
FIRST SOLDIER
Yes, Miss, we all do. And believe me, I know how you
feel. Here...let me help you to you car.
Getting into the front seat, see watches the other
soldier fill her back seat with her groceries. She
stares at the soldier once more.
MARY SUE
(smiling)
Thank you, sir, you've been so kind.
77

FIRST SOLDIER
All in a day's work, Miss. Sure you don't need
medical assistance? I could call in ahead.
MARY SUE
No. No, thank you though. I'll be alright. I'm headed
home right now.
The car door CLOSES. The soldier steps aside. The
car drives out of sight. The two soldiers face one
another. Weapons held at knee level.
FIRST SOLDIER
You know...that was Capt'n Harrison's ole lady. Do
you think she believed him? That is...if he had a
chance to tell her.
The SECOND SOLDIER looks to where the blood
stain still ran about the asphalt.
SECOND SOLDIER
If she really believed he had the plague...then I don't
think she believed him.
He holds his rifle up toward the sky.

SECOND SOLDIER
But...if she starts asking questions, then you know
the routine. Wouldn't want to piss the boss off...if
you know what I mean.
78

He pats his M-16. Smiles. They slowly walk toward
their vehicle. Get in. Drive away from the scene.

FADE OUT:
FADE IN:
INT. HOSPITAL -- NIGHT
Robert and Gloria help Bubba through the ER. Four
medics await them. Medical equipment ready. A
DOCTOR rushes to them.
DOCTOR
(alarmed)
Is...he infected?
ROBERT
(tired. afraid)
Yes, I'm afraid so. We...gave him ...his meds. He's
alright now...it appears. We...brought him here...
just in case.
Bubba is put on a stretcher. PUSHED AWAY by the
medics.
A YOUNG NURSE steps up to Robert and Gloria.
The doctor joins the medics.
YOUNG NURSE
Are you relatives?
She leads them to the waiting room. They sit down. A
79

TV in the far corner talks about the new outbreak of
the plague. A few terrorists attacks in the Mid-East.
GLORIA
(still shaken)
No...just friends. Where are they taking him?
YOUNG NURSE
To be examined. Don't worry yourselves...those
medics are experts about this disease. I bet you two
could use a drink.
Robert SLIDES down in the chair. Stares at Gloria
and nurse.
ROBERT
No...not really.
YOUNG NURSE
It's on me. How 'bout it?
She puts a hand to Gloria's knee.
YOUNG NURSE
Please...it'll help, I promise.
ROBERT
Alright, Nurse, we'll have something to drink.

DISSOLVE TO:
INT. O.R. -- LATER
Bubba is giving a CAT Scan, then taken to the
80

operating room. He is giving an injection and put to
sleep. The four medics and doctor make ready. The
head medic RUBS an oily substance on Bubba's
belly. MAKES AN INCISION from the navel up.
The SKIN IS BROUGHT BACK AND HELD OPEN
by special tools. Inside, the intestines are in perfect
condition. The belly sack is empty say for the regular
stuff.
DOCTOR
(wide eyed)
Lemme see that picture again.
One of the nurse's PULLS out the CAT Scan. The
doctor studies it. We clearly see something that looks
like a round bag next to what looks like intestines.
DOCTOR
Just what I thought! Nurse...hand me my scolex
tool...quick! If this is what I think it is...
His voice trails off. We clearly see the sack. It’s stuck
behind the large intestine.
The nurse hands the tool to the doctor.
NURSE
(tensed)
Here...you are, Doctor.
He selects the tool. HANDLES it by its square-like
81

head. HOVERING above Bubba's open belly, the
doctor PRESSES A BUTTON.
The device starts WHINING. Then BEEPS.
DOCTOR
(excited)
We've got...somethin'. Here...take this!
He hands the tool back to the nurse. Reaches down
with gloved fingers. Gently moves the intestines.
FULL SHOT BUBBA'S OPEN BELLY --
CONTINUOUS
We see the doctor's fingers. They MOVE THE
BLOODY innards to one side. Behind it is a sack-like
thing composed of a thin, transparent membrane. It
moves like an egg about to hatch.
DOCTOR
(terrified)
Good Jesus...it's a living sack...full of those
sonsabitches!
FULL SHOT O.R. -- CONTINUOUS
We see Bubba on the operating table. The doctor and
medics surround him. The doctor's hand is still in the
open belly.
DOCTOR
Quickly...hand me the laser! I'm getting rid of these
82

bastards!
The nurse hands the Doctor the pistol-like device.
He AIMS THE TOOL toward the sack. We see him
JUMP. The sack LEAPS the doctor like a wet sponge
gone insane.
The medics SCREAM. Run for the exit. The door is
locked. They POUND AND SCREAM at it.
The doctor SLIPS. FALLS to the polished floor. The
sack pulsates on his chest.
DOCTOR
(screaming)
Goddam...get it off!! Get it off!!
The laser tool FLIES FROM HIS REACH. SLIDES
near the door.

FULL SHOT DOCTOR -- CONTINUOUS
He SLAPS at the moving sack. It EXPLODES. Tiny,
earthworm-like things ATTACH themselves to his
cheek, face and forehead.
DOCTOR
Help!!
He continues HITTING the WIGGLING THINGS.
They PUSH their way into him. Some in his eyes,
some up his nose, dozens inside his mouth. He
83

GAGS, THROWING UP. The tiny monsters FALL
out. Quickly LEAP back where they were before.
FULL SHOT O.R. -- CONTINUOUS
The medics try the doors once more. They almost
open it. A nest of the tiny, snake-like things JET
across the floor.
The medics SCREAM. Some SLIP over their own
feet. One goes for a phone, FALLS OVER THE
FALLEN LASER TOOL that fell during the
creatures' first appearance. He HITS the wall. Blood
flies from his head wound.
The WIGGLING THINGS seem to FLY THROUGH
THE AIR ATTACHING themselves all over the
medics. The creatures DRILL their way to blood.
FULL SHOT OUTSIDE HOSPITAL -- MOMENTS
LATER
We see police cruisers SKIDDING to a stop out
front. Humvees filled with soldiers SLIDE IN NEXT.
The entire hospital is quarantined off. Soldiers and
police RUSH through the entrances.
We hear SCREAMS from within. People RUSH
OUTSIDE. Massive tapeworms attach to their bodies
like GIANT LEECHES.
GUN SHOTS are heard. It's like a war is braking out
84

within the walls of the hospital.
Hearse-like vehicles pull out front. Bodies are
collected. Carried away. The police leave. The
soldiers remain out front guarding the entrances to
the hospital.
A LOUD noise is heard. Someone has JUMPED
FROM THE TOP FLOOR. His body CRASHES to
the pavement. Blood engulfs everything. The massive
tapeworm that is entering his mouth and eyes expels
out. Is quickly blasted by the soldiers' rifles.
FADE OUT:
FADE IN:
INT. JOHN HARRISON'S HOUSE -- NIGHT
John Harrison walks inside his house. UNFASTENS
his gun belt. Discovers his wife setting up in bed.
She's wearing a see-through nightgown.
Sliding in beside her, she helps remove his clothes.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
I really do need a shower...honey.
She RUBS his hairy chest.
MARY SUE
Not until afterwards.
She moves on top of him. Circles his birthmark with
her finger. LICKS his left nipple.
85

MARY SUE
(slowly)
John...I think I know what hell you face everyday.
Let's get on with life before it's too late.
John easily PUSHES her away.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(concerned)
What do you mean? Honey...what happened? My
God...you didn't see...
Mary BREAKS out in tears.
MARY SUE
(sobbing)
Oh, Jesus, yes! Baby...it was horrible!!
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
How? Where?
He LOOKS to the ceiling. Eyes wide with horror for
his wife. Was about to say something. Decides against
it.
MARY SUE
It was at...the store, John. I...was making ready to
leave...when this man grabbed me. He was
screaming somethin' 'bout the pills.
She looks out the window. Sees a flowered curtain
hanging there.
86

MARY SUE
I...think he needed one. Maybe he was out of them.
I...don't really know for sure. Well...after that...he
was...he was...
She CRIES aloud. John holds her close to him.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
I'm so sorry, Sue. I wish...I was there with you.
But...I hate to say it...but it's sort of like the terrorists
thing, you know. It could happen anywhere...to
anyone.
He brushes the hair from her eyes.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
You don't have to go on if you don't want to.
MARY SUE
(sad)
But...I've got to, honey. I know that I...could face
such things out there...but you try and block it out,
you know. At least...until it happens to you.
John kisses her on the lips.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Alright, baby, if you want to...go on.
MARY SUE
After he ran up to me...he was shot and killed. I
think I fainted or somethin', because when I came to,
87

a soldier helped me to the car. He was very polite
and all. Anyway, John, now I know what you...must
face everyday...in and out.
She smiles wide. WIPES the tears from her eyes.
MARY SUE
Like I was saying, honey, let's live life while we can.
She kisses John. PUSHES him back on the bed. She
rises up on top of him. MOANS as they make love.

DISSOLVE TO:
INT. JOHN HARRISON'S HOUSE -- LATER
We see John and his wife in bed. The bedside clock
reads MIDNIGHT. The phone on the table RINGS.
John JUMPS up. Moving away from Mary, he turns
the lamp on. It lights up. On the tabletop we see two
paperback novels, a large bottle of pills and a half
box of rifle ammo. Next to these is the RINGING
TELEPHONE. John PICKS up the receiver.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(whispering)
Who is this?
He checks the time. Frowns.
88

We hear the VOICE on the other end. It is broken
into cracks, like the person was talking but not trying
to be heard.
VOICE
(slowly. shaken)
Is...this...Captain...Harrison...of Red Squad One?
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(suspiciously)
Yes...I am. Who the hell is this?
VOICE
Captain Harrison...the plague pills. They
don't...work...as they say they do!
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
What? Just who in the hell is this? Do you know I
could arrest you right this very second? Mister...if
this is some sort of sick joke...
John's voice trail's off. The man's voice continues.
VOICE
Sir...I swear...I'm telling...the God's honest...truth.
Please...you must believe me! You're...our only
hope!
John PUSHES the covers away. Sits up in bed. He is
totally nude. Mary SHIFTS behind him.
89

MARY SUE
(half asleep)
Who...who...is it, dear?
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(slowly, to his wife)
Just...a friend, honey. Go back to sleep, alright?
He continues with the voice on the phone.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(angry)
Okay, mister, tell me why I should believe you?
We hear the voice SIGH.
VOICE
Okay, Capt'n. Today...your wife... met a friend of
mine. He...was killed...trying to tell her...just
what...I'm trying to tell you...now.
The voice SIGHS again.
VOICE
Now...Capt'n Harrison...do you believe me?
John quickly STANDS. GRABS up a shirt hanging
from the wall. Starts putting it on.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Alright...you've got my attention... for now. I want to
see you...face-to-face, hear me? Where the hell are
you?
90

VOICE
(startled)
You...mean...right this second?
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(pissed. puzzled)
If what you say is true...the sooner the better, if you
know what I mean. Now...one more time...where in
the hell can I find you?
He finishes putting on his shirt. PULLS up his pants.
Goes for his weapons.

VOICE
(Afraid. more terrified cracks than before)
I'll...be...at the ole...warehouse ...near...Parker and
Fifth...Street.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(pissed)
You've better be on the up-and-up, son, 'cause if
you're not...you'll see Humvees in your dreams...if
you know what I mean.
He HOLSTERS his pistols. SWAPS ears with the
phone.
91

CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Alright...I'm on my way.

DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. OLD WAREHOUSE -- LATER
It resembles an old ghost house. All of the windows
in the three story building have been broken out. The
outside seems to be falling apart, board-by-board.
John's Humvee eases to the curb. He eyes the large,
black building. He KILLS THE ENGINE.
Everything goes black. No streetlights on this street
were working.
He slowly STEPS from the Humvee, pistol ready.
Walks toward the building. Finds a metal door.
PUSHES on it. It does not give. He soon discovers
another entrance with better results. It opens. All we
see is total darkness.
He WITHDRAWS a tiny flashlight. Smiles.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(whispering to himself)
I never leave home without it.
INT. OLD WAREHOUSE -- CONTINUOUS
We watch the flashlight's beam. It SKIPS ACROSS
OLD, unused crates, tables, walls, a cement floor and
92

faraway things covered with webs.
John SLOWLY ENTERS the place. Listens for any
signs of the man he is searching for. Looks around.
Calls out.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
It's Captain Harrison...the one you
called...remember?
He almost TRIP on something. The beam of light
REVEALS a long, tube-like thing on the dusty floor.
It is some sort of air vent. John almost SHOOTS it,
thinking it to be one of the creatures.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(whispering to himself)
Goddammit! Maybe...it wasn't such a good idea to
shout that loud? No tellin' who's in this Godforsaken
place with that asshole!
He comes to an aisle surrounded by ancient crates.
Each filled with spider webs and darkness.
His pearl-handled pistol AIMS toward empty air. He
grins knowing all too well it could be used anytime.
Anywhere.
FULL SHOT INSIDE WAREHOUSE --
CONTINUOUS
Captain John's flashlight's beam HITS A FAR
93

WALL. He sees a window that is boarded up from
the inside. We see the captain isn't far from this
spot.
ANGLE ON CAPTAIN HARRISON
He comes to a halt. COCKS HIS HEAD. LISTENS.
He hears nothing.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(authority)
Hey...Mister! Look...I don't have all night, you
know! Like I said before...it's Captain Harrison, the
one you called. Now, why don't you just common out
so we can talk. You're not in trouble...I promise!
He COCKS his head. LISTENS again. We hear a
noise. It sounds like a vehicle driving down the street.
It drives away from hearing range.
Walking once more, John reaches the corridor of the
back wall where the crates were stacked up, one atop
the other. He RUNS A FINGER across top of one of
the crates. It is almost an inch thick with dust.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Jesus!! Don't they ever clean this place!
We watch as he turns left. A loud BANG is heard.
WOODEN CRATES STRIKE the floor.
John DUCKS BEHIND the crates for cover. He
94

PEERS to one side. We see total darkness. Whatever
it is was in that direction, toward the far corner of
the warehouse.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(concerned)
Mister...that you? What you up to...trying to get my
attention? Well, son, you've got it! Now... come out
or I'm leaving!
He stands, AIMS HIS FLASHLIGHT. Its batteries
were dying. The beam wouldn't light much of the
darkness up.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(getting pissed)
Mister...get out here now...or I'll throw your sorry
ass in jail where it belongs!!
He turns toward the faraway exit. Is about to leave.
Almost trips over something. This time it isn't just
tubing. It is the man who had called him. He's dead.
Three bullet holes in his chest.
FULL SHOT CAPTAIN JOHN AND DEAD BODY -
- CONTINUOUS
He SEARCHES THE BODY. DISCOVERS nothing
but a torn out piece of white paper. We clearly see by
John's dying flashlight beam that it says "Anti-
95

Plague Pills: Do They Really Work or Do They
Contain..." This is where the paper ends. The rest is
missing.
John Harrison curses thin air. He looks at the piece
of paper.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
What...the shit...do they contain?

DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. OLD WAREHOUSE -- MOMENTS LATER
We follow John to his Humvee. He POCKETS THE
PAPER. Starts the vehicle. Drives down the street.
Turns right a block ahead. Disappears. We see
another Humvee driving from the opposite side of
the warehouse. It FOLLOWS JOHN'S at a slow
pace.

FADE OUT:
FADE IN:
INT. JOHN HARRISON'S HOUSE -- MORNING
We hear THUNDER. See LIGHTNING through the
windows. The rain starts to POUR like never before.
John wakes up. Rises up in bed. It THUNDERS
again. Mary wakes up as well.
96

MARY SUE
(afraid)
John...what's that noise? Shit...it's not raining, is it?
She COCKS her head. Listens to the POURING
RAIN.
John walks to the window. PEERS outside.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
I'm afraid so, Sue.
He DROPS the flowered curtain. Stares at his wife.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Still planning on going to church?
MARY SUE
Not if this keeps up. By the way... what time is it
getting to be?
She rubs her sleepy eyes.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Little after seven. Want breakfast?
MARY SUE
Now? Can't it wait another fifteen minutes?
John heads for the bathroom.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Don't worry, dear, I'll make it after I shower.
ANGLE ON MARY SUE
She PUSHES the sheets from her nude body.
97

FORCES HERSELF out of bed. STRETCHES. Eyes
her meds on the coffee table by the bed.
She UNSCREWS THE LID. POPS out two pills.
Stares at the elongated pills. They look odd shaped.
Out of proportion somehow.
MARY SUE
What...the shit's wrong with these things? Did they
get overheated or somethin'?
She SQUEEZES HER EYES shut. SHAKES HER
HEAD. Once again looks at the two pills. They were
shaped differently. Looks like half-moon candle or
something.
MARY SUE
John!! John!!
She HEARS the SHOWER RUNNING.
She SHRUGS. Makes ready to POP THE PILLS in
her mouth.
We see a hand QUICKLY GRABBING her's. Forces
her hand away from her mouth. Mary JUMPS
WITH FRIGHT. Smiles.
MARY SUE
(giggling)
You...scared the shit out of me!
98

ANGLE ON CAPTAIN HARRISON
He just got out of the shower, naked. His face
MASKED with worry.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(yelling)
No...don't take those!! They're defects. I bought
them just yesterday ...and discovered they were no
good just last night.
He takes the pills from his surprised wife. Plus the
whole bottle.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
On the web...Sue. They've got this entire blog
devoted to defected pills ...like these!
He stares at the pharmacy number on the side of the
bottle. Sees the numbers.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
See...these numbers match the ones on the internet.
They are to be... returned right away...with no delay.
He turns. HEADS for the bathroom. FLUSHES the
pills down the toilet.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
But...I'll just get rid of these... no sense making a run
just for these meds. I'll pick more up tomorrow,
alright, Sue.
99

He walks back into the bedroom. Mary Sue stops
him dead in his tracks. She puts her arms around his
neck. Brings their naked bodies together.
FULL SHOT BEDROOM -- CONTINUOUS
MARY SUE
(softly)
John...I may be the female stereotype in some men's
eyes...but, baby, I wasn't born yesterday.
John tries looking elsewhere. Anywhere but his
wife's blue eyes. Finds he cannot.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(grins)
What's...that suppose to mean? Of course you
weren't born yesterday. You were born in
October...1975.
He smiles. Looks at the bed. The walls. The pouring
rain out the window. Then to Mary's eyes.
Mary pushes her body against his. Tight. Arms
circling his neck, then his waist.
MARY SUE
John...you know what I mean. Now...what's
wrong...with the pills?
We see John trying to pull loose. She holds him in a
death lock.
100

CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Like I said...they were...only defects.
MARY SUE
Oh huh...then why not wait in trade them for another
bottle...rather then flush them away?
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Like I said...Sue...I'll get more tomorrow...the drug
store's closed today. It's Sunday...remember?
Mary grins big. Pushes John onto the bed. Rides on
top of him.
MARY SUE
Honey...if you're trying to protect me from not
knowing somethin', then you can stop. Baby...I
promise...I can handle whatever it is.
John lies beneath his wife. He's defeated.

CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
You're right, honey, I am trying to protect you. But
maybe...knowing is more of protection...than not
knowing.
She smiles. Moves up and down some.
MARY SUE
I...just want the truth, baby. That's all I asked.
John moans a little. Smiles up at his wife. Shakes his
101

head.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Again...you're right. I'll tell you. Let's retreat to the
kitchen for breakfast.

FADE OUT:
FADE IN:
INT. KITCHEN -- MOMENTS LATER
We see the two around the table. They're having
breakfast. Mary looks up at John.
MARY SUE
(concerned)
Thanks for telling me, honey. I didn't mean to press
the info from you...but I just had to know. Every
since that man at the store...I knew something was
up.
She finishes her plate. Smiles.
MARY SUE
But, John, what do you think are in them?
John kills his orange juice and eggs.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
I've been racking my brain all night 'bout that, Sue.
At first...I thought the man was crazy...or at best...
trying to pull a fast one. But now... since he was
102

killed and all...and that man you meet was killed...I
am beginning to believe somethin' is goin' on. But
just what...I can't put a finger on it. And what they
might contain...I don't have the foggiest.
Mary puts both elbows on the table. She looks up.
We see her trying to figure out something. Anything.

MARY SUE
John...have you ever taken a course in Biology?
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Yes...but that was a million years ago. What does
one have to do with the other?
MARY SUE
(excited)
It has a lot to do with it! Do you remember the
parasites?
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(smiles)
If I were to take an exam right now... I would fail like
shit. But yes, to answer you question...I do
remember some of it. Like the plague we're fighting
now. Some scientists believe tapeworms are the main
cause. Mutated tapeworms. You know...from that
space shuttle crash some years back, with the virus
103

Zr74.
He leans back. Smiles at his wife.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Well...am I correct so far...Teacher?
Mary grins back. Pushes her plate away.
MARY SUE
You've got an 'A' on my exam.
She reaches across the table. Holds his hands.
MARY SUE
Now...do you recall how the tapeworms made their
way into one's body?
John looks to the ceiling. Scratches his head.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(in triumph)
Insufficiently cooked meat! But that doesn't make
any.... Hey, wait just one minute! The other day...I
was just thinking 'bout this. I read it in an article...I
believe. But for the love of me...I can't remember it!
Mary smiles at him. They lean close. Kiss.
MARY SUE
Honey...I think we're getting somewhere. The
insufficient meat would be insane to place inside the
pills. But then again...whoever is behind all of
this...has to be insane to began with. Am I right?
104

CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
I sure hope you are, honey. The thought of an
intelligent person doing this takes my breath away.
The guy...or guys...has to be smart to think up such a
scheme in the first place!
He rubs one of her soft hands.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
But...what would he...or they...have to gain from such
a conspiracy?
Mary shrugs. Looks out the window. The rain has
slowed.
MARY SUE
I truly...don't know, honey. Hey...do you feel like
carrying on this crazy question and answer game?
Baby...I don't know why...but all of the sudden ...I
feel kind of...afraid. What if this is all real?
I...mean...surly it can't be true?
He nods. Kisses her again.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
You're right, Sue, let's stop this crazy talk. But...it
does beat popping pills that may contain...
Suddenly, his head spins wildly. His thoughts rush
back years ago. To school.
105

CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Good God...Sue...back in school...I remember having
a teacher who made a joke 'bout all the weight
watchers out there buying pills. He joked 'bout
putting...tapeworm cysts into capsules. Holy
shit...that's it!! The pills contain...tapeworm cysts!!
Or...at least some new form of genetically engineered
tapeworm cysts!
Mary yells with terror. Runs to the bathroom.
Throws up. Trying to get rid of any of the pills she
may had taken in the past 24 hours. John does the
same. They both flush their bodies clean in the next
three hours by taken any thing that would make
them throw up, go to the restroom, or anything else.
Later, they regroup in the dining room.

MARY SUE
Good Lord, John, you've got to be right!!
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
I'm...afraid so. That would...be the simplest way in
doing such a thing.
Mary looks out the window.
MARY SUE
Well, John, why don't you have some of the pills
106

looked at? Maybe... your friend back at the office
could take one and...
ANGLE ON CAPTAIN HARRISON
He looks at his wife. Smiles. Waves a hand in a 'not
now' motion.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(whispering)
Sue, baby, if it's gone as far as someone...or some
organization... putting cysts in pills, then I'm
afraid...we can trust no one. At least...not at the
moment.
Mary appears worried. Crosses her arms. Rocks
back and forth.
MARY SUE
But...what 'bout the FDA? They passed those pills
with flying colors...didn't they?
FULL SHOT DINING ROOM -- CONTINUOUS
John rubs his wife's shoulders.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(softly)
Dealing with the Food and Drug Administration...I
can honestly say that they don't check every damned
pill...or for that matter...food.
He looks out the window as well. It has stopped
107

raining.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
And...in this day and age...who’s to say you couldn't
find one...buy him, or her off, and go 'bout your
business like nothing was wrong.
Mary nods in agreement. Appears afraid. She stands
up. Hands on both hips.
MARY SUE
(sure of herself)
Well, John, now that we know what causes this
horrible thing...what are we to do 'bout it? If
anything can be done? Hell...whoever's doing this
has already killed two people. Maybe even
more...who knows?
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
We're not going to do a dam thing, Mary. I on the
other hand...will talk to General Nelson and see what
he has to say.
Mary holds John's hand. Rubs it. Kisses it.
MARY SUE
(softly. worried)
Honey...sure you can trust him?
He looks about the dining room. Studies a picture for
a moment, then looks at Mary again.
108

CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Surely...he knows nothing 'bout this. Hell...we go all
the way back to the First Gulf War. I trusted him
then... I trust him now.
Mary points a finger at John.
MARY SUE
Darling...you know that I'm going with you. Even if
I have to drive behind you...I'm there.
John laughs aloud.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Not...if I hogtie you and throw your ass in jail.
Mary appears surprised.
MARY SUE
You wouldn't?
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(grinning)
Baby...you know...I've got friends in low places...even
the town jail.
He laughs aloud.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
You know...that would never happen. Hell...besides,
if not for you, I'd still be trying to figure out what all
this shit was 'bout.
She smiles. Kisses John.
109

MARY SUE
You would have figured it out soon enough for
yourself. Remember...you have a high IQ.
John kisses her back. Moves hair out of her eyes.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Yeah...but you got my mind working on solving the
problem...not thinking 'bout what it causes: death.
Sickness. Sadness.
His laughter subsides. His face appears afraid. Mad
at the same moment.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(pissed)
If I get my hands on the sonoabitch who's doing
this...I'll personally pour a jar of those fuckin' pills
down his throat!!
MARY SUE
Then...I'm in?
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Yes...you are, honey. Besides I've just came up with
somethin'.
Mary appears interested. Like a detective about to
solve a crime.
110

MARY SUE
(grinning)
Got a plan...have you?
John grins. Crosses his arms.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Yeah...one just came to me. Are you sure you really
want to help? You know...you can back out anytime.
Even right this second if you want.
MARY SUE
Back out hell! I'm in this all the way. Now...
She draws closer to John, like a con artist or thief
about to embark on a mission.
John grins. Leans in closer to her.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Alright, then. Just remember...I gave you a chance.
Besides...with this conspiracy taking place...right
here in our own back yard...I don't think it would be
wise for you to stay put anyway.
Mary grins.
MARY SUE
Okay, John, I got it. Now, please, get on with this
plan of yours.
We see him snicker.
111

CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Now...I know why I married you.
He kisses her once more.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Alright, here goes: I was going to the General with
this...but let's assume for the record that you're
right. That he may be the one, or knows of the ones,
doing this.
He looks down at the table. Sees his reflection.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Hell...if they're capable of lacing pills...who knows
what they can do.
He pulls out a blue, entrance card. It went to where
he works.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
I know of two soldiers I would give my life for...or
vice versa. No doubt 'bout it. We start with them.
Mary stands. John does the same. They hug, kiss one
last time.
112

FADE OUT:
FADE IN:
EXT. LARGE WAREHOUSE JUST OUTSIDE
ALLENTOWN -- MORNING
We see John's Humvee. It's parked outside a
massive, metal building, behind a large group of tree,
hidden from sight. Out front is a sign that reads
'ALLENTOWN PHARMACEUTICALS'.
No one else is on the street at this time of the
morning.
FULL SHOT INSIDE HUMVEE -- CONTINUOUS
We see Captain John, Shepard and Robert. They are
dressed in black, jump suits. Robert looks past the
front windshield, toward the building.
ROBERT
Is this the only place, Capt'n?
John glances at Robert. We see Shepard in the back
seat. He is holding a large, type weapon. It
resembles a skinny rocket launcher.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(softly)
Mary and I searched the town on the internet just
last night. According to what we saw and read, this
is the only storage plant for the pills, if you don't
113

count the two drug stores in town. Yes, it contains a
whole lot of shit, not to mention almost everything
else one can think of. Hell, it's like a little China in
there: everything for everyone.
He checks his watch. It's 4:30 in morning.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Alright...it's almost time. The place doesn't open for
several more hours. We should just have enough
time.
We see Shepard wiping down his gun with a white
cloth.
SHEPARD
And...according to town records, this is where they
ship the dam things from. From here...
He gestures toward the distant building. Smiles.
SHEPARD
...they transport the pills all over town...some even
out of the county. No telling where they head from
there.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Men...make sure your weapons are ready. Use them
only in self defense. I don't won't anyone in there
getting hurt...unless of course they ask for it.
Shepard and Robert nod their heads. Captain John
114

PULLS A SKI MARK over his head. His men follow
suit. They resemble terrorists about to embark on a
mission.
They slowly step from the hidden Humvee, weapons
drawn. John has his M-16. Robert holds his rifle.
Shepard is still holding his rocket-looking rifle.

FULL SHOT JOHN AND THE TWO SOLDIERS --
CONTINUOUS
They ease toward the warehouse. Watching for any
people or workers. John waves his men on. They
follow.
At the front entrance, John tries the door. It's locked.
John kicks it down. DANG! It flies open revealing
only darkness from within.
Withdrawing flashlights, the three separate, going
about their various jobs.
FULL SHOT INSIDE WAREHOUSE -- MOMENTS
LATER
Shepard discovers the light switches. Flips them on.
We see the entire warehouse light up revealing
everything in sight.
The place is nothing but aisles and aisles of shelves
containing everything from Playboy magazines to
115

DVD's to coffee filters.
Shepard stares up, then all around at the rolls and
rolls of stuff.
SHEPARD
(surprised)
Holy...shit!!

DISSOLVE TO:
FADE IN:
INT. MARY SUE IN WHITE VAN -- MOMENTS
LATER
She CHECKS HER WATCH. BREATHS A SILENT
PRAYER. CRANKS UP THE VAN she was in. She
slowly puts it into gear. Takes off toward the distant
warehouse. Ahead of her, the street appears
deserted.
FULL SHOT LARGE WAREHOUSE JUST
OUTSIDE ALLENTOWN -- LATER
We see the white van. It backs up to the docking bay
of the warehouse. Mary, now wearing black clothes
and a ski mask as well, glances into the back of the
van. The back doors are open. It appears that three
terrorists were stacking crate after crate into the
back of the van.
116

We see one of the terrorists. He looks up at Mary.
BLINKS AN EYE. The last crate is placed into the
van. John SLAMS the van doors shut. SLAPS THE
SIDE of the fender for the all clear sign.
Mary nods. Makes ready to leave. John crawls in the
front with her. Shepard follows.
MARY SUE
(wondering)
Where's Robert?
SHEPARD
He's taking the Humvee. If anything happens...we
can maybe split up, confusing whoever's after us.
Mary smiles. Pulls the van out into the street.
Removes her mask. Shepard and John follows suit.
ANGLE ON VAN
It travels down the main road back toward town. It
passes a sign. It reveals 'ALLENTOWN 7'.
INT. VAN -- MOMENTS LATER
Mary almost STRIKES A MAILBOX. Misses it by
feet.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(grinning)
Kinda of jumpy...aren't we?
Mary THROWS A QUICK GLANCE at John.
117

MARY SUE
What gives you that idea? Hell...I'm use to goin'
'round robbing places everyday.
John smiles at her.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Remember...I gave you a chance to get out?
MARY SUE
I...I remember, John. It's just that...
She halts her sentence. We HEAR DISTANT
SIRENS.
SHEPARD
(stunned)
Cops!!
Shepard stares out the front windshield. We see tiny
lights in the distance. They were gaining.
SHEPARD
(smiling to himself)
Someone narked us out! I bet it's that Robert! I
never liked his white ass anyway!
John looks out the window. The lights and sirens
where closer now. Just crossing over a semi-dark hill.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Most likely a silent alarm went off. I guess we should
have cut them off first.
118

Mary smiles at him.
MARY SUE
You think?
John withdraws a small metal box. Takes out two
cigars. Lights one up. Hands one to Shepard.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Mind if we smoke, Sue?
MARY SUE
(pissed)
What? We've just robbed almost every drug in
Allentown...the laws are after us...and you have the
nerve to...smoke?
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Ah...yeah!
MARY SUE
(grinning)
Okay...gemme one, dammit!!
John grins. GIVES HER ONE. LIGHTS it up. All
three smoke in the van.
FULL SHOT VAN -- CONTINUOUS
We see it skip back and forth. The police cars
heading toward them. Almost upon them. The van
slowly pulls in a small, gravy driveway to hide. The
cop cars fly by, heading toward the warehouse.
119

MARY SUE
What...now...boss?

ANGLE ON CAPTAIN HARRISON
He peers into the back of the van. It’s completely
filled with crate after crate.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Well...let's get this cargo to the spot we picked out.
Then...we'll head to town...to hit the drug stores. If
nothing else... the pills won't be in Allentown...at
least until the next shipment arrives.
FULL SHOT SHEPARD -- CONTINUOUS
SHEPARD
(grinning)
When that happens...we'll be waiting. Right,
Capt'n?
John grins. Rubs his pearl handled pistol.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
That's right...my friend. That's right.
Mary puts the van into gear. Eases out onto the road.
MARY SUE
Okay...ready...here we go.
120

FULL SHOT VAN FROM SKY P.O.V. --
CONTINUOUS
We see the van taking the pavement. It heads west.
ANGLE ON MARY
MARY SUE
(concerned)
What 'bout Robert? Will he be alright?
FULL SHOT INSIDE VAN -- CONTINUOUS
John touches Mary's arm. Smoke blows from his
cigar.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Robert? Honey...just ask Shepard. Robert's the best
at getting out of tight places. Hell...back in the Gulf
War he practically pulled me and Shepard from
enemy fire.
SHEPARD
(laughing aloud)
Might not trust his white ass...but he's still the one
you can count on. Leave it to Ole Rob...and I
promise...you've nothing to worry 'bout.
He places his large gun to the van's floorboard.
FULL SHOT VAN FROM SKY P.O.V. --
CONTINUOUS
The van soon disappears from sight as it enters a
121

clove of trees. We watch as the three unload the
crates, placing them behind the trees.

FADE OUT:
FADE IN:
INT. VAN -- MORNING
Mary parks behind the first drug store. She checks
the dashboard clock. It is ten in the morning. She
eyeballs John.
MARY SUE
(softly)
Honey...please be careful. The place is open
now...with people all around.
John smiles at Mary. Kisses her.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(smiling)
Haven't I always been? Hey...don't worry, okay. I'll
be just fine, I promise.
He pulls the ski mask back on. Watches Shepard do
the same.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(to Mary)
Remember what to do if the police arrive?
122

MARY SUE
(seems afraid)
Yeah...I'm to drive from here... taking the back way
out of town.
John smiles at his wife. Winks.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
That's right, Sue. Don't worry, alright. Just think of
it as another one of my jobs.
He stares at Shepard.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Ready?
Shepard grins. Picks up his weapon.
SHEPARD
As I'll ever be, Capt'n.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Alright...that's it then. Common!
He and Shepard exit the van. The door slams shut
behind them.
Mary looks about her surroundings. People were
everywhere it seemed. On the streets, going about
their daily activities, window shopping, etc. She
checks the van's fuel level. It's half empty. Keys were
still in the ignition, ready to be turned on if need be.
123

MARY SUE
(to herself)
I love you, John Harrison.
Through her window, she sees John and Shepard
enter the drug store's rear entrance.

DISSOLVE TO:
INT. DRUG STORE -- MOMENTS LATER
We see about a dozen people walking the aisles of the
store. They scream as two terrorists run in from the
rear fire exit, holding M-16's. A young woman
screams. Faints.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Don't anyone panic! We're not here to harm you!
All we want are the anti-plague pills!
He throws a large plastic bag to the guy behind the
counter.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Fill her up...nothing but pills. The plague pills...if
you please!
Two pharmacists come into the open. The HEAD
PHARMACIST looks at the two terrorists. He has
fear in his eyes.
124

HEAD PHARMACIST
(scared)
But...the pills? We would have no immunity...from
the plague! Why... in God's name would you do
somethin' like this?
John walks up to the old man. Hands him a plastic
bag.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Believe me, mister, you'll be better off not taking the
dam things anyway. They contain...tapeworm cysts!
Hell ...most likely the virus Zr74 itself!
FULL SHOT PEOPLE IN DRUG STORE --
CONTINUOUS
Everyone screams their horror. The lady who fainted
hears the horrid news. Faints again.
ANGLE ON JOHN AND SHEPARD
The bags are quickly filled with bottles of pills,
packages containing pills, single doses of the stuff,
and even a few things that resemble lollipops.
Taking hold of one of the lollipops, John looks to the
head pharmacist.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(disbelief)
What the hell's this? It looks like some sort of
125

candy?
The pharmacist seems afraid.
HEAD PHARMACIST
Ah...ah...yes, they're new. Just arrived today. You
know...for the younger kids...like babies and so forth.
John throws the lollipop back in the bag. Slams his
fists into a solid wall.
The people back away. Some hit the floor, screaming,
trying their best to cover their bodies from bullets.
Shepard calms John down. Reassures everyone.
SHEPARD
Folks...he's not pissed at you. Just the bastard...or
bastards...who think it funny to feed not just us with
parasites...but our young babies, too.
John snaps out of it. Looks at the head pharmacist.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(forcing a smile)
Tell me, sir, just how many of those...things have you
sold?
The head pharmacist appears scared to death.
HEAD PHARMACIST
(shaking like a leaf)
Ah...mister...we don't sell them.
126

CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Then how?
HEAD PHARMACIST
They're...
We see him swallow hard. Like a watermelon going
down.
HEAD PHARMACIST
They're...free...giving to the mothers of the babies!
ANGLE ON CAPTAIN HARRISON
He almost looses it again. Regains his posture.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Sir...it's not you I'm angry at...it's the ones who
would do such a thing.
Shepard grabs up the bags. Heads for the back exit.
John runs after him, but stops. Goes back to the
counter.
Sees a little girl sucking on a lollipop. He yanks it
from her mouth. Turns to run, as the SECOND
PHARMACIST pulls a double barrel shotgun on
him.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Oh...shit!
127

SECOND PHARMACIST
(shouting)
That's right...bud! Now...it's time for me to aim
rifles...giving orders! So...drop that oversized toy,
Mr. Terrorist! I'll get a reward for this...fer sure!
Hell...it's probably ole Bin Ladin himself!
Remember... they never caught the bastard!
FULL SHOT SHEPARD -- MOMENTS LATER
He re-enters the drug store. Sees the pharmacist
holding the shotgun right at John's head.
We see Shepard shaking his head. He aims the large,
rocket-launcher toward the ceiling.

SHEPARD
(whispering)
Please...Lord...don't let anyone be walking 'bout up
there.
With this, he squeezes the trigger. The gun goes off.
Bullets spray the ceiling. Plaster and wood rain to the
floor.
FULL SHOT DRUG STORE -- CONTINUOUS
The results worked. The pharmacist drops his
shotgun. Puts his hands up.
128

SECOND PHARMACIST
(slowly)
Sir...it was empty...I swear it!!
Captain John says a silent prayer. Throws the
lollipop into the plastic bag. Finds three more in the
kid's pocket. Throws them in as well.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(to the pharmacist)
Sir...is that all of them? I mean...candy and all?
HEAD PHARMACIST
Oh...yes, sir...that's it...I promise.
ANGLE ON CAPTAIN HARRISON AND
SHEPARD
They walk backwards from the store. Shepard blasts
more of the ceiling, making all within hit the floor.
Once outside, they leap inside the van. The plastic
bags are thrown into the back.
Mary puts the van in gear. Drives away.

DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. FRESHLY DUGGED HOLE -- LATER
We watch as John throws the plastic bags of
medicines and lollipops into the deep hole. He pours
gasoline on top of them. Lights a match, throws it in
129

the hole. It blazes up instantly.
Standing around the flames we see John, Shepard
and Mary.
SHEPARD
Are you sure we're doin' the right thing, Capt'n?
He holds his nose as the smoke reaches him.
SHEPARD
(disgusted)
Goddam...that shit smells!
John glances to the tall, muscular black man.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Tell me, Shepard, what would our government do if
they discover the pills contain cysts from
tapeworms?
SHEPARD
Most likely...burn 'em, sir.
He takes his hand away from his nose.
John looks about his friends. Wife.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Well...we've more drug stores...and warehouses to
hold up. Are...we game?
We see them all nod their heads in agreement.
130

FADE OUT:
FADE IN:
INT. ALLENTOWN'S SHERIFF'S OFFICE --
AFTERNOON
We see the sheriff behind his desk. Paperwork
clutters the entire top. Pictures of family and friends
sit here and there. A map of an old dirt road shows a
way to some farmhouse.
This is SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
MACAURTHER'S office, just inside Allentown.
He's going through a file. We see that it is of the
recent robberies of warehouses and drug stores.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
(whispering to himself)
Why are the terrorists interested in the plague
medicine? Why in heaven's name would anyone
want to get rid of them?
He pulls out some pictures. They reveal the masked
terrorists as they robbed the drugstores.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
(grinning)
Yeah...you know that I know.
He's speaking to the pictures.
131

SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
You think you can come into my town...hold all of
the pills hostage. The pills the citizens desperately
need to get rid of that damned disease. Yeah...hold
'em so you can blackmail Allentown into giving you
no telling how many millions of dollars.
He grins. Taps one of the pictures with his figure.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
Then what, huh? Go out in blackmail the entire
country...maybe even the world? Well...my
friends...not here you ain't goin' start. Not in my
town.
The sheriff smiles. Throws the pictures back onto the
table.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
No sir! Sheriff Johnny Dean MacArthur ain't goin'
stand fer it! No...I ain't! Not on my watch!
He fumbles through his top, desk drawer. Pulls out a
large bottle of pills. It clearly states on the label:
ANTI-PLAGUE PILLS -- TAKE FOUR A DAY.
So, Sheriff Johnny Dean takes a handful of the pills.
Washes them down with a cold Budweiser, then
drinks another one just to make sure.
We see him tap a picture of another drugstore. It's
132

Quick-N-Safe Drugs.
The sheriff picks up the phone. Dials a number.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
Hello...Mr. Miller. Yes, this is Sheriff Johnny Dean.
I believe that your store is next on the terrorists' hit
list, so I'm sending some plainclothesmen down
there.
MR. MILLER
(softly, over the phone)
Okay, Sheriff, if you think dat's best. What'll they
be doin'...the plainclothesmen?
The sheriff pops another pill. Smiles. Answers the
question.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
They'll be just roaming your store...like plain
customers and such. Don't worry...no one will get
hurt...of course unless they're the terrorists.
MR. MILLER
(afraid, over the phone)
Alright, Sheriff, I trust you. You do know that me
and Lucy voted fer you at the last election?
The sheriff smiles. Drinks another beer, just in case.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
Yeah...of course I do, Mr. Miller. Now...they'll be
133

over there shortly.
MR. MILLER
How...will I know them?
The sheriff shakes his head in disbelief.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
Good grief...Ted...it'll be Roger and Sam...they'll be
packing .357's.
He hangs the phone up. Laughs aloud.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
Let's just see these terrorists rob Quick-N-Safe now.
FULL SHOT SHERIFF -- CONTINUOUS
He leaves the office. Heads across the street. We see
Quick-N-Safe just to the right of another store. The
sheriff stands there, then enters. Peeks around the
corner so he can see all of the action.

DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. VAN FROM SKY P.O.V. -- LATER
It pulls next to the run, down warehouse where the
man was killed that had called Captain Harrison
day's before.
The foursome enters the building. The doors shut
behind them.
134

FULL SHOT INSIDE WAREHOUSE --
CONTINUOUS
They rest somewhere in its middle. They all seem
disturbed about something. The place is lit up with
sunlight shinning through the glass roof.

MARY SUE
(despair)
John...what now?
We see John lay his rifle down.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Honestly...I don't know for sure. How was I
supposed to know they'd catch on this fast?
Robert leans up against a support beam.
ROBERT
I guess we just underestimated Sheriff
MacAurther...that's all.
Shepard holds his gun. Points it toward empty space,
as if waiting for something - anything- to leap out.
SHEPARD
Well...I'd say that it was just good ole luck that we'd
heard 'bout the plainclothesmen that were placed in
Miller's store. Good thing the sheriff uses that radio
as much as a police band.
135

He pulls out a cigarette. Lights it. Blows smoke with
pleasure on his face.
Mary walks around some crates. Knocks away spider
webs with her rifle barrel.
MARY SUE
Please...let's cut the small talk and figure out our
next move.
We see everyone in the group stare at her.
Then John steps forward. Waves his hands at
everyone.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Well...as I see it, we have two choices. We can try the
drugstore ...taking a chance of being shot...or us
shooting someone...or just leave it alone...and pray
that maybe those pills there aren't tainted.
Hell...maybe what we've done so far will draw the
ones out who's responsible?
He looks at everyone, especially his wife.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Will...what will it be?
Robert walks around a large, metal barrel.
ROBERT
What if we wait a few days? Maybe by then, Sheriff
MacArthur will stop looking for us. In the meantime,
136

we could keep watch on that other warehouse
making sure no more meds arrive there.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
That's a good plan, Robert, but I don't really believe
the sheriff will give up that easily. Oh, he might let
all of the plainclothesmen leave, but he'll still be
expecting something to happen. Therefore, he'll
always have an edge on us.
John sits on a dusty crate. A spider runs off into the
shadows.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
About the warehouse...we can keep an eye on it, just
to make sure no more tainted pills reach it. Or
maybe...stake ourselves somewhere out of
town...watching for any trucks delivering the shit
here.
ANGLE ON MARY SUE
She looks at the sunlight that's flooding through the
roof's windows.
MARY SUE
But...what if whoever's behind this never comes out
in the open?
She checks her watch. It was close to one in the
evening.
137

MARY SUE
(upset)
Hell...we could watch that place for months.
FULL SHOT WAREHOUSE -- CONTINUOUS
John shifts his weight. Looks over to Mary.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Okay...then we'll watch for two weeks. By then...if
he doesn't come out of hiding...then he probably
never will.
The foursome looks at each other. They still
resembled terrorists. The sun grew lighter.

DISSOLVE TO:
INT. CAFE -- EVENING
We see people ordering food. A nearby TV plays a
baseball game. It is quickly interrupted by a special
news bulletin. It's the sheriff. He's being questioned
by a Channel 13 REPORTER.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
(loudly)
Like I've been saying fer sometime now...the
terrorists are to be considered armed and dangerous.
So far as we now, there's only three. Others may be
138

hiding...perhaps in the getaway van that has been
seen at all the locations.
The sheriff spits tobacco juice all over a nearby,
running dog. It barks. Runs off.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
(laughing)
The van is kinda of a white color. There's no license
plate...so far none we've seen.
The news reporter moves in closer. The cameraman
gets closer to the sheriff.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
So far...think God...no one has been killed...or taken
hostage as of yet, but one drug store owner did
report a terrorist blasting holes through his roof for
no apparent reason.
We see the sheriff shift his cowboy hat for a better
fit. The camera is only feet away now. The reporter's
microphone is right at the sheriff's mouth.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
(smiling deeply)
The terrorists seem interested in obtaining the anti-
drug pills, as we call them. Why they are doing this,
is not yet known.
The reporter smiles.
139

REPORTER
What do you believe they're up to, Sheriff
MacArthur?
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
I believe they're trying to blackmail Allentown into
paying millions to get the pills back.
REPORTER
What 'bout Red Squad, Sheriff? Can they help bring
'bout these terrorists?
We see the sheriff grin from ear-to-ear. He spits
more tobacco.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
The Red Squad? Let me tell you, citizens of
Allentown...I believe they're in on it. Don't ask me
how or why...but my gut tells me so.
The news reporter gets closer.
REPORTER
(grinning)
In on it? But Sheriff...I thought they were here to
protect us...from those things?
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
(laughing)
If I'm wrong...I'll quit! But...tell me...where the hell
are they now that this shit.... Can I say that on TV?
140

The reporter nods. The sheriff continues.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
Like I was saying...where are they...since this...crap's
been goin' on?
REPORTER
Maybe they are, Sheriff, I pray not. But taking all of
the pills...for profit?
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
Hell yes, son, and by the time we do get the money to
pay them...our guts will be bustin' open like ripe
melons!
REPORTER
(sick. scared)
Ah...yes...I see.
The crowd of people behind the sheriff starts to
chant and shout about the whereabouts of The Red
Squad. Some picks up rocks and throw them toward
the headquarters of the squad. Windows are broke.
Wood chipped.
The sheriff smiles. Laughs aloud. The cameraman
draws in closer still.
141

FADE OUT:
FADE IN:
INT. INSIDE VAN -- EVENING
The van is miles from town. Robert turns the
portable TV off. Shepard is in the van with him.
ROBERT
(pissed)
Can you imagine that? We're blackmailing
Allentown into giving millions? Hell...we're trying to
save their fuckin' asses!
We see Shepard. He's on the passenger side.
SHEPARD
(grins. then stops)
Know what I think?
ROBERT
What?
SHEPARD
I think that we made a mistake listening to the
Capt'n.
Robert looks at the road. Shifts in his seat.
ROBERT
(angry. interested)
What's that suppose to mean, Shep?
142

SHEPARD
Think 'bout it for yourself. It most likely won't take
them long to figure out that we're behind this. Hell,
you heard the sheriff, didn't you? Hell...he believes it
already. And that crowd behind him? Looks like
they were getting pretty pumped up, if you ask me.
Robert glances at a distant group of trees they were
driving up to. Behind them stood Captain Harrison
and his wife. Robert puts the bag of groceries in the
front with him.
ROBERT
Maybe he won't wait those two weeks, Shep.
Then...we'll terrorists right along with him.
Shepard shifts his large frame in the front seat. Pulls
out a soda from the bag. Opens it. Drinks it down.
SHEPARD
You know what? I think we're just paranoid 'bout
all this. You know as well as anyone that the Capt'n
will do the right thing.
They shut up as Captain Harrison and Mary come
up to the window.
143

FULL SHOT CAPTAIN HARRISON, MARY AND
VAN -- CONTINUOUS
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Have any trouble getting the supplies?
Shepard looks out the window. Smiles at Mary.
SHEPARD
No, sir, Big John gave it to us just as you said he
would. All the adjustments you ordered for the GPS
was done...at least that's what John said.
FULL SHOT VAN FROM SKY P.O.V. --
CONTINUOUS
We see Shepard and Robert get out of the van. They
hand Captain Harrison a large, brown bag. He takes
an object out of it. Closer inspection reveals it to be a
GPS tracking device.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(grinning)
If he says it's done...then it's done. That John's a wiz
when it comes to units like this one. With this...we
should have an edge on that sheriff.
ANGLE ON CAPTAIN HARRISON AND
SHEPARD
The unit pops on. We see right away on the
miniature screen a small dot with a road map behind
144

it.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
This is our location, Shep.
He taps a button. The machine makes a noise. The
screen pops to another location. It's Allentown.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
And of course...as you can see...this is our hometown.
Every dot on the screen is that of a vehicle. You see
this red one?
Shepard and Robert nod.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
That's the sheriff's vehicle. John had it bugged a
month ago...just in case we needed it. And it looks
like...we did.
Smiling, he gets inside the van with the rest. They
start the vehicle. Drive away from the trees, toward
town.

DISSOLVE TO:
INT. GROCERY STORE -- EVENING
We see Sheriff MacArthur and his deputy. This is
sheriff's MacArthur’s only nephew, DEPUTY
JOHNNY MACK. They hide behind a large, wooden
table. The sheriff has his binoculars, spying out the
145

window at the store right across the street. Through
the dirty window, we see the Quick-N-Safe. Citizens
of Allentown walk up and down the sidewalk. Some
peer into the window trying to see the sheriff. He
waves them on. One little girl (the one with the
lollipop earlier) waves at him.
The Sheriff grabs up his radio. Presses the speak
button. Talks to JIMMY.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
(angry)
Jimmy...get those people away from here! Hell...this
ain't no goddam exhibit...and I sure as hell ain't no
dam zoo animal. Now...get them outahere or I'll have
'em all arrested fer obstruction of justice!
He releases the button. Slams the radio on the dusty
floor. His deputy stares at him. Disbelief in his eyes.
JOHNNY MACK
(upset)
Ah...Uncle Johnny...they don't mean any harm.
Especially little Susie there...she's just curious is all.
ANGLE ON SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
He looks in awe at his nephew. Throws up his hands.
Blows out of his mouth like he just ran a hundred
miles.
146

SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
(mad)
Fer the last time...it's Sheriff Dean...even to you,
Nephew!
FULL SHOT GROCERY STORE -- CONTINUOUS
JOHNNY MACK
Ah...sorry, Uncle...I mean, Sheriff Dean! But
still...all and all... they mean no harm...just curious.
We see the sheriff reach for his pistol. Think twice
about it. Shakes his head.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
Well...if they keep it up...they'll be curious in my
jail...I promise you that.
The radio cracks on. The sheriff and Mack jump
with fright. We hear Jimmy's voice over the racket
of the street outside.
JIMMY
Alright, Sheriff MacArthur, I'm right on it.
We see that right outside the window, a tall man in
blue jeans and a cowboy hat was starting to tell
people to leave the street. He was yelling.
JIMMY
(his voice was muffled by the stained glass window)
Okay...the Sheriff says everyone off the street...or
147

he'll arrest every one of you!
Sheriff Dean MacArthur lowers his head. Looks to
his nephew, then back out to the street where people
were being ushered off by three more deputies.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
(in shock)
Goddammit...is everyone's brain dead with those
worms? Hell...I might as well nail a sign out front
telling those terrorists I'm in here watching them!
We see Johnny Mack hold his belly as he laughs
aloud.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
That's 'bout right! Laugh it up...but when all those
pills of yours are gone 'cause of those dam
terrorists...you'll wish you...
We see Johnny Mack grab his belly harder. He starts
to scream. Hits the floor. Rolls into the shadows
knocking over a table.
ANGLE ON SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
His face grows with fear. His eyes bulge like saucers.
Sweat pours from his forehead.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
(terrified)Holy shit...Johnny...you all right? Got any
pills...with yer?
148

He fishes in his pants pocket. Pulls out a small bottle
of pills.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
Here...Johnny...here! I've got...
He quits talking. Johnny has stopped screaming.
Now we hear what sounds like someone pulling their
legs out of a mud hole. The sound goes on forever.
FULL SHOT CORNER OF STORE IN SHADOWS
-- CONTINUOUS
We see what looks like three snakes inching upwards
toward the ceiling. The shadows almost cover them
but clearly they were there. The things pull their way
toward the sheriff.
FULL SHOT INSIDE GROCERY STORE --
CONTINUOUS
We see the sheriff go for his pistol. It comes out of its
holster. Falls. Hits the floor. A slimy snake-like thing
quickly grabs it up. It disappears in the shadows.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
(scared)
Johnny! Johnny! You...there?
There's no answer. We hear the noises like sucking
mud, grow louder.
The sheriff looks out the window for help. No one's
149

there. The street is empty. He goes for his radio on
the floor. Another slimy tendril pulls its away.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
(screams)
For God's sake...someone help me!!!
No one answers his call. The sound of wood breaking
gets his attention. We clearly see three tapeworms
emerge from the darken shadows. Their slimy heads
scratching across the ceiling.
The Sheriff cowards in a corner.

DISSOLVE TO:
INT. HUMVEE -- AFTERNOON
We see Captain Harrison's Humvee. Its hauling ass
down the highway toward town. Shepard is in the
passenger seat. Behind him, in the rear, are Robert
and Mary. They're all armed to the teeth.
Shepard's using the GPS tracking device. It's
beeping. On the small screen we see dozens of dots
moving this way and that like ants.
SHEPARD
(upset)
There it is again, Capt'n! Something's goin' on in
town...and I mean it's goin' insane! Hell...ain't
150

nobody drives like that!
Mary stares at the device.
MARY SUE
He's right! I don't know what's up, but it looks like
everyone's leaving town, but coming back at the
same time. It makes no sense.
Robert makes ready his M-16. Smiles.
ROBERT
(glad)
It does to me! Those bastard things' done gone wild!
The entire town's infected by now. I say...we just
hang guns out the window...drive-by 'em all!
ANGLE ON CAPTAIN HARRISON
He looks in the rear-view mirror. Sees Robert
smiling.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Soldier...we do as I say...nothing else...understand?
Robert nods. Looks out the window.
Mary touches John's hand.
MARY SUE
We will, honey. It's a good thing we picked this up
where Robert stashed it. I don't believe that old van
would hold up much...in case all hell breaks loose.
151

FULL SHOT INSIDE HUMVEE -- CONTINUOUS
John slaps the steering wheel. Tries the dashboard
radio again. Nothing but static.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
I hope...nothing like that's happened!

DISSOLVE TO:
INT. GROCERY STORE -- LATER
We see the sheriff. He grabs up a heavy chair. Tries
breaking the glass. Nothing happens. He does it
again. The chair breaks.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
(pissed)
Holy...shit! What's dis thing made out of?
He quickly looks around. Sees the tapeworms. They
were now crawling across the ceiling like snakes.
Bloody slime oozes from them like pouring sweat.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
Goddammit! Break...you sonofabitch!!
This time, he grabs an iron locker. Throws it at the
window. It strikes. The glass shatters throwing
shards all about. He laughs. Jumps out the window.
Screams as his holster gets caught on a giant, rusty
nail.
152

SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
Holy...fuck...now what?
He sees the nail. Tries getting it off his belt. It's good
and tight, going no where.
We hear hissing noises now.
The sheriff looks up.
ANGLE ON TAPEWORMS
They quickly glide toward the caught man. Their
mouths are open. Hissing noises come from them,
just like that of snakes.
We see they are now only feet above the sheriff's
head.
FULL SHOT INSIDE GROCERY STORE --
CONTINUOUS
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
Fuck! Shit! Come...loose you bastard!
We see him finally undo the gun holster. It falls free.
He leaps from the busted window just as the three
tapeworms fall to where he was moments before.
The sheriff takes one last look. Turns, runs down the
street. Still no one else is out.
153

FULL SHOT STREET FROM GROCERY STORE
P.O.V. -- CONTINUOUS
He tries for the drug store that he was watching. We
see Mr. Miller run from it. His mouth lashes open. A
giant, bloody tapeworm vomits from it.
The sheriff yells for help. Sees one of the army
Humvees. It turns a corner, crashes into the theater.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
(shouting for help)
For God's sake...help me!
We see Miller collapse to the street. The tapeworm is
now all the way out of his mouth. His face looks like
it has been stretched beyond length.
Sheriff MacArthur reaches the armed Humvee. He is
about to leap in it when the driver's door flies open.
The driver falls to the ground. A cobra-like
tapeworm was devouring his neck. You could hear
sucking noises like that of someone finishing their
soup.
The sheriff falls to the ground, knees first. The
tapeworm from Miller's mouth is now only inches
away. The one from the soldier is hovering above the
sheriff's head.
154

FULL SHOT MAIN STREET -- MOMENTS
LATER
We see Captain Harrison's Humvee. It flies around
the corner, almost hitting the first Humvee. It comes
to a stop. Captain Harrison, Shepard, Robert and
Mary quickly leap out of it. Weapons ready. They
were dressed like terrorists.
The four blasts the two tapeworms to nothing. The
sheriff falls to the street. Hands to his face, praying.
Just as quickly, the sheriff stands up.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
(scared)
You're...the fuckin’ terrorists that have been...
Shepard steps forward. Smiles. Pulls his mask off.
SHEPARD
(angry)
Yeah...we are, Sheriff. We're the fuckin' terrorists
that just saved your sorry ass!
The sheriff sees who it is. Captain Harrison, Mary
and Robert take their masks off as well.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
I'll...be a sonofabitch! I told...'em news reporters it
was you all the time! Why...I should...
We see him reach for his pistol that isn't there.
155

ANGLE ON CAPTAIN HARRISON
He steps forward. Grabs the sheriff by the shirt
collar.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(mad)
Why...you bastard! We've just saved your ass...and
you want us dead! Why don't we...just feed you to
those things!
At that moment, we hear a nearby window shatter.
Someone screams.
FULL SHOT TOWN FROM SKY P.O.V. --
CONTINUOUS
We see a young woman fall from one of the motel's
windows. She hits the ground. Tries getting up, falls
again. Right behind her leaps a huge tapeworm. It
is at last sixty feet long. Has the head of a python. Its
mouth's open. Fangs like a snake's, protrudes
outwards.
The girl screams as the thing leaps for her.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(shouting)
Eat this...you bastard!
He aims both pearl-handled pistols. Fires at the
horrible-looking creature. The shots are true. They
156

blast the thing's head to mush. It falls dead on the
street. The girl slowly crawls toward her rescuers.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
(terrified)
Holy...shit!
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Like I was saying, Sheriff. Join us...or join that thing
there.
He gestures toward the still, dying creature.
ANGLE ON SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
He slowly looks to the monster, the screaming girl,
then the squad that's now terrorists.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
(slowly)
Well...I guess I'll be joining your group.
FULL SHOT STREET FROM THEATER P.O.V. --
CONTINUOUS
We see Shepard banging on the GPS tracking
system. It's beeping like crazy. Small dots run all
about its screen.
SHEPARD
(puzzled)
I don't understand it...Capt'n. It's like the entire
town's driving their vehicles...but no one's around.
157

We see everyone halt in their tracks. Even the girl
that jumped from the window stays put. Noises like
that of a hundred motors suddenly tear the air up.
Mary puts her hands to her ears trying to muffle the
sound. The sheriff looks about like someone lost.
Captain Harrison, Robert and Shepard quickly
ready their weapons. The sounds grew louder.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(to Robert)
What's that you were saying some hours ago?
Something about those 'things' done went wild?
Robert looks up at John.
ROBERT
(smiling)
Yeap...that's it, Capt'n. That's what I said. And
don't forget... let's just hop in our Humvee there,
hang the weapons out the windows, and give 'em one
hell of a drive by.
ANGLE ON CAPTAIN HARRISON
He grins. Makes ready his pistols.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
People...let's head for the Humvee. I think...Robert's
right 'bout this!
158

FULL SHOT STREET FROM HEADQUARTERS'
P.O.V. -- CONTINUOUS
About three blocks from the Red Squad's Building,
we clearly see the people get into their vehicle. The
sounds of engines grow louder by the second. Now a
thick cloud of dust can be seen coming from out of
town. It's getting closer.
FULL SHOT HUMVEE -- CONTINUOUS
Once everyone's inside, windows roll down. Rifle
barrels and pistols pop outward.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(yelling)
Let's get the fuck outahere!
SHEPARD
Look...here they come sir!
We see that his rifle barrel is pointing outwards
more, gesturing to what he was talking about.
ANGLE ON FAR-END STREET
From here we can make out about twenty cars,
pickups and other assortment of vehicles. They are
moving like a bunch of drunks were behind the
wheels. Some took out street signs out. Others hit
sides of buildings. One ran over a hot dog cart. Side-
by-side, behind each other, the vehicles dash
159

downtown in a dust cloud from hell.
FULL SHOT INSIDE HUMVEE -- CONTINUOUS
Shepard points like a madman.
SHEPARD
(yelling)
Here they come!
Mary leans in for a closer look.
MARY SUE
(confused)
But...who the hell are they?
The sheriff smiles. Laughs. Spits tobacco to the
carpet.

SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
Your welcome committee!
Seeing the sheriff spit on his floor, John reaches back
and slaps him across the face.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(pissed)
Don't spit in my car! Now...you sonofabitch...what's
this welcome committee you're talking 'bout?
Robert sits up in the back seat. His M-16's barrel
hangs out the window.
160

ROBERT
Like I said...Capt'n...those things' gone wild!
Mary points with a finger. The sheriff's badge almost
stabs her right breast.
MARY SUE
(to sheriff)
Watch it...mister! Sheriff...or no Sheriff...I'll knock
the fuck out of you!
The sheriff backs off. Mary looks again at the ocean
of vehicles. They move slowly now. Form a complete
circle until every way out of town is blocked.
Captain Harrison looks at all of this with wonder.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Now...Sheriff...again, what's this 'bout a welcome
committee?
ANGLE ON SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
We see his face grow with anger, then it eases up
some.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
Why...didn't you know, Captain Harrison?
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Know what?
The sheriff looks at all of the ones in the Humvee.
Smiles. Reaches into his front pocket. Pulls out a
161

small, metal container about the size of a matchbox.
ANGLE ON CAPTAIN HARRISON
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
What the hell's that? More of your meds to kill those
creatures?

FULL SHOT INSIDE HUMVEE -- CONTINUOUS
We watch as the sheriff brings the small box up to
his face. It glistens in the sunlight.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
You know that those pills are what's causing this
whole mess, don't you?
The sheriff laughs aloud. Starts opening the tiny
container.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
The pills? The cause of this plague?
He almost has the box open. Mary looks at the still
parked vehicles, then to the sheriff. She frowns with
suspicion.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
That's why we did what we had to. If anymore of
those drugs got in the hands of citizens no telling how
many would have came down with it.
162

FULL SHOT TOWN FROM SKY P.O.V. --
CONTINUOUS
We watch as the cars, trucks and other assortment of
vehicles move slowly toward the parked Humvee.
We clearly see that they are trapped with no way out.
The woman who jumped from the window slowly
stands. Makes her way toward the parked Humvee
that was a good block away. Before she gets ten feet,
a four-wheeler driven by what resembles a redneck
drunk, speeds toward her. She sees it. Tries jumping
to one side, but it’s too late. The front bumper hits
her lower legs. She collapses. The four-wheeler
stops. A giant guy gets off of it. Runs to her.
FULL SHOT INSIDE HUMVEE -- CONTINUOUS
Meanwhile, everyone in John's Humvee sees what
was happening. Shepard tries getting out. John stops
him with a strong hand.
SHEPARD
(yelling)
Don't stop me, Capt'n...she needs help!
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(softly, but loud enough to be heard)
I'm sorry, Shep, but I've got a feeling 'bout all this.
Robert leans forward. Mary does the same.
163

ROBERT
(curious)
You mean...it's a trap?
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
I'm...afraid so. Look around you. Where's our men?
They're nowhere to be found. And all of this...if it's
happening like this everywhere, then where's backup
from Washington?
Mary leans away from the sheriff, who's has the tiny
box right up to his eyeball, looking inside it.
MARY SUE
Then...we're all alone then?
John looks at his wife. Holds her hand for a second.
Smiles.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
I'm afraid so, honey. The only way out of this, is to
fight our way out.
He stares at Robert. Pats him on the shoulder.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
You had the right idea all alone, my friend. Drive
through those sonsofbitches with our guns blasting.
Surely with enough firepower...we can at least get...
He's cut short as Mary screams bloody murder.
John looks in the back seat. Sees that the sheriff has
164

what looks like a miniature night crawler in his right
hand. It is swirling about like a top, and then it
stops, lifts itself up. Hisses at the atmosphere it sees.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(yelling)
Goddam...it's you! You're the one behind all this!
Everybody...get out now!
All at once, everyone in the Humvee quickly opens a
door. Leaps out.
FULL SHOT OUTSIDE HUMVEE --
CONTINUOUS
Robert looks in terror as the tiny worm seems to
shape into a dart. Flies toward him. Sticks him in the
right eye.
Robert screams. Falls next to the Humvee. Hits the
pavement. John, Mary and Shepard have exited the
vehicle. They see what has happened.
MARY SUE
Noooo! Robert!
John yanks her away from the vehicle. Robert strikes
the ground. His body jerks. His head swells to the
size of a beach ball. Blood vessels the size of balloons
pop up on his forehead. They burst. Blood spews
about. The top of his head splits open. Brains topple
165

out and to the ground. Behind this vomits a large,
green tapeworm. It pulls itself out with Robert's
spine and shoulder bones attached to it.
John, Mary and Shepard dash toward the distant
squad headquarters. Behind them they hear the
hissing of the creatures. The vehicles start. Speed
toward them like charging tigers.
ANGLE ON WOMAN HIT BY FOUR-WHEELER
She tries getting up. She screams. Her legs are
broken, the knees have come loose and fall to either
side, making them bend opposite ways than normal.
She stares up at the man who hit her. He towers
above her. Smiles. Opens his mouth wide. A thing
like a falling, bloody ball spits from his mouth, hits
her face. It explodes sending hundreds of tiny worms
all about her head and mouth.
She screams again. The things fall inside her mouth
and up her nostrils. She gags. Can't breathe. Her
face turns white as a ghost. She dies.
ANGLE ON CAPTAIN HARRISON, MARY AND
SHEPARD
They make it to the squad building. The vehicles are
upon them. Kicking open the front door, John rushes
in with his wife and Shepard right behind.
166

ANGLE ON SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
We see him step from the Humvee. He walks over to
Robert's dead body. Bends down. Welcomes the tiny
night crawler thing back into his hand. Slowly he
places it back into its metal container. Pockets it.
The large, green tapeworm crawls toward the squad
building. Robert's shoulder bones and spine go with
it. It disappears into the water drain.
Laughing, the sheriff stares at the distant building. It
is surrounded by over a dozen vehicles. The drivers
slowly step out, stare toward Sheriff MacArthur.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
Yes, soon my pets...we shall have 'em all. Now...we
wait.
He looks one last time at the building, laughs, and
spits tobacco to the pavement. Slowly walks toward
his office.

DISSOLVE TO:
INT. RED SQUAD'S HQ -- LATER
Captain Harrison, Mary and Shepard make it to the
control room. No one's there. The entire place is
empty.
167

CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Let's try making a call. You never know.
He plows into the seat. Presses a series of buttons. A
control panel in front of him lights up. On the screen
is nothing but static.
He grabs up a nearby mike.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
This is Captain John Harrison of Red Squad! We
have complete breakdown! I repeat...we have
complete breakdown! The rogues have taken over!
We need assistance right away!
He releases the switch. Listens. Nothing but static.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(pissed)
Dammit...it's not working!
Shepard finds three more M-16's. Loads them.
Hands them to John and Mary.
SHEPARD
At least...we can hold out here for awhile.
Mary musters a smile. Accepts the rifle. Puts it next
to her other one.
MARY SUE
(upset)
Thanks...and you know...I'll use every dam bullet if I
168

have to.
Shepard pats her shoulder. Grins.
SHEPARD
I sure do...doll...I sure do.
Meanwhile, John tries the radio again. Gets the same
results. Throws the mike to one side. Gets up. Picks
up the second M-16. Places it on a nearby table. He
pulls one of his pearl-handled pistols. Makes sure it's
ready.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
The sheriff? I...can't believe it. And what of the
pills? Were they the cause...or not?
Mary walks over to him. Takes a seat.
MARY SUE
Of course they were. Remember those people who
warned us 'bout them? They gave their lives for us
to know.
We hear a loud speaker click on from somewhere
outside. The threesome jump. Look about the place.
Sees nothing unusual.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN (O.S.)
Hello in there! Can you hear me good?
It's the sheriff. He is out front using a bullhorn to
talk.
169

John steps to the window. Peers outside.
FULL SHOT OUTSIDE WINDOW --
CONTINUOUS
We see the sheriff. He's standing a few hundred
yards away. The bullhorn is at his mouth. Beside him
stand over a dozen men, women and children. Most
of them look deformed. Some of their heads are
lopsided. A few have no hair, only moving lumps. A
couple has their shirts torn off. We see their chest
cavities exposed. Intestines hang halfway out.
Tapeworms can clearly be seen swirling around in
their open cavities like large snakes in holes.
One in particular stands out the most. It's the little
girl from the drug store. She's licking on a green
lollipop. It has little black things moving about on the
candy part. She's grinning. One of her shirt-sleeves
has been torn off. Instead of a human arm, John sees
a dangling tapeworm. Its body and head was moving
back and forth across the pavement. Its black, lifeless
eyes were staring straight at John and the others.
FULL SHOT RED SQUAD'S HQ -- CONTINUOUS
Captain Harrison almost falls to the floor. He starts
to cry. Mary holds him close as he sobs like a baby.
Shepard looks out the window. Sees what John just
170

saw.
SHEPARD
(pissed)
That...goddam bastard! He's got the entire town on
his side...even the children!
Mary tries looking out also. John pulls her back.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(stops crying. getting angry)
No...Mary...don't look. That what he wants. Oh
no...we're not playing his little game...at least not yet.
He ransacks the office. Finds a switch that reads
OUTSIDE PA. He quickly picks it up, squeezes the
button.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(angry)
Alright...you bastard! What is it you want? I ask
you that...'cause you sure as hell ain't getting it. Not
from us...not on my watch!
We hear the sheriff laugh aloud over the bullhorn.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN (O.S.)
(crying with laughter)
What...do I want, John? Well...I guess it's pretty
obvious...I want you dead...I want you to join the rest
of us...out here on the street.
171

John looks at Mary and Shepard. Smiles.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Kinda of hard to do that, you know. We kinda of
like the living part of being human and all.
We hear the sheriff laugh again. Spitting over the
bullhorn.
He says nothing at the moment.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Tell me...Sheriff...how did you come to be the one?
You know...the head of those earthworms out there?
He LAUGHS so that the sheriff could hear it outside.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN (O.S.)
Well...since we've got a little time...or should I
say...you and your kind has a little time left...I'll tell
you. Well, I'll tell you as much as you should know.
Maybe I'll tell you over supper.
We hear him LAUGH aloud once again, like a devil
about to start some hell on earth.
FULL SHOT STREET FROM HEADQUARTERS'
P.O.V. -- CONTINUOUS
We see the sheriff. He's laughing like a mad man. He
puts the bullhorn down. Looks to the people
surrounding him.
172

SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
Make ready...my pets! Soon...you can have those
also!
He puts the bullhorn back up to his mouth.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
Capt'n...remember the ill-fated space shuttle crash
not so long ago?
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Yes...I do know of it. Guide II was its name. I was
there at the crash sight.
The sheriff smiles widely.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
(loudly, in bull horn)
Yes, right so far, my friend. In that flight...they
brought the virus Zr74 with them. Well...Capt'n...in
this certain virus was parasites like the world's never
seen before. Of course...at the time, the scientists
didn't know this. They just thought it a virus to
someday cure all diseases. With me so far?
ANGLE ON CAPTAIN HARRISON, MARY AND
SHEPARD
The captain eases to the window. Peers out once
more.
173

CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
So far...the shuttle crashes. So what? Everyone on
board was killed ...even Zr74 was boiled to nothing.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN (O.S.)
Right 'bout everybody dying, my friend. But one
thing did survive that fatal crash: Zr74. I know this
...'cause I was there. Capt'n...I was one of the
scientists at the crash sight. Of course, I didn't
promote that I was there. No one here knew of
this...so I ran for sheriff...and won.
We see Mary and Shepard ease up behind the
captain. Their rifles were still ready. Aiming here
then there.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(suspicious)
Okay...say we believe that. What's that got to do
with the pills?
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN (O.S.)
(laughs)
Pills? My dear friends...those pills were the only
hope for mankind. And with my help, and yours,
now there almost all gone. At least from this part of
the country.
He LAUGHS aloud over the bullhorn.
174

SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN (O.S.)
Once again...my many thanks to you and yours.
Captain Harrison and the others appear stunned for
a moment. They look out the window. Then to the
back of the room they are in.
MARY SUE
(whispers to John)
Is he right? Did we help bring about this...this
tapeworm revolution?
Shepard slams his fist into a computer desk. Pencils
and paper fly all about.
SHEPARD
(mad)
Goddam him! That sonofabitch staged this entire
ordeal so we'd help him get rid of the medicine! So
help me...if I get hold of him...I'll...
He quiets down as a loud noise is heard above their
heads. Something was moving about. Something big.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(whispering)
I'm afraid so. And us saving his ass some while
ago...also staged for our benefit. I hate to admit it...
but I guess we...were terrorists!
175

SHEPARD
Listen! Hear that? Somethin' crawling 'round up
there!
He gestures with his rifle barrel.
SHEPARD
You...think...what I'm...thinking?
ANGLE ON SHERIFF MACAUTHER AND THE
MOB
We see them laughing aloud. They have heard what
was said by Captain Harrison, Mary and Shepard.
He slowly brings the bullhorn to his mouth. Spits
before he speaks again.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
Capt'n? You can cut off your PA speaker you're
using. I had the place wired to hear a mouse fart.
Oh...yes...my intelligence goes when beyond what you
may think. And that sound above your heads...in the
squad's office...it's a little...or should I say...big
surprise I have waiting for you!
He laughs aloud. Throws the bullhorn at the
building. It strikes the ground. A large wheel from a
gigantic four-wheel drive truck smashes it flat.
176

SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
(laughing aloud)
Yes, John, I know you can't hear me at the
moment...but I saved the virus. I nourished it back
to life. When it survived...it gave me everlasting
life...by entering my body. Now...I am one with
them...and they are one with me.
He LAUGHS. Points toward the nearby building.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
Now...my pets! Do as you will. They're all yours!
He motions them onward. SPITS again. SMILES to
the faraway, open window where he knows the
threesome were hiding.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
Yes, Capt'n, we thought that the dinosaurs were
killed off by meteorites or some other natural
disaster...but no, my friend...they were killed off by
parasites! And now...they have come back to finish
off your race as well!
FULL SHOT STREET FROM HEADQUARTERS'
P.O.V. -- MOMENTS LATER
We see the dozen or so people slowly walk toward the
building. Some of them with tapeworms popping out
of their mouths. Others collapse to the ground, as the
177

things pushed their ways out of their asses. Bellies
slice open, splashing forth the creepy-crawly
creatures. All-and-all, everyone, or everything,
inches their way closer to the building. Behind they
left the mother of all oil slicks.
The sheriff just stands there in the street. LAUGHS
like a man gone insane. He pulls out his little metal
box again. Opens it. The tiny, earthworm thing pops
up like a jack-in-the-box. It's tiny, bug size head
LOOKS up to the sheriff. Its mouth caves open
revealing miniature, razor-sharp teeth.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
Yes...my friend...your time has finally arrived.
Soon...this species...as the dinosaurs once were...will
be no more!
The tiny creature appears to LAUGH. It LOOKS
toward the distant squad building. Spreads what
looks like wings. It takes to the air like a morbid
butterfly. We see it SOARING toward the building.
LAUGHING, the sheriff steps back toward his office.
Disappears within the place.
178

DISSOLVE TO:
INT. RED SQUAD'S HQ -- MOMENTS LATER
Shepard and Mary quickly discover more M-16's
inside the weapons' room. They bring them to John
who is still in the main office. He checks them one at
a time.
We hear the noise grow louder within the roof. Mary
looks upward. The roof's vent gives way. The
massive tapeworm that came from Robert's body
fills the vent's threshold. It collapses to the floor right
in front of the threesome.
Its green, python-like body rises upwards, the
shoulder bones and spine zigzagging behind it. Its
gruesome head scratches the ceiling.
FULL SHOT CAPTAIN HARRISON, MARY AND
SHEPARD -- CONTINUOUS
They back away as the thing slams to the polished
floor. Mary SCREAMS her horror at seeing the
horrid creature. Shepard aims his M-16. Makes
ready to shoot.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(yelling)
Shoot the bastard...before..!
179

ANGLE ON TAPEWORM
It leaps forward, going for the threesome. We see
them dive to one side. The monstrous thing slams
into file cabinets and computer consoles. Sparks and
flames shoot about. The monster tapeworm pivots,
tries for the three humans again.
ANGLE ON CAPTAIN HARRISON, MARY AND
SHEPARD
We see them dive out of the thing's path. They all
three try their weapons. Bullets fire but nothing
happens.
SHEPARD
(surprised)
Shit...goddam blanks! That sonofabitch thinks of
everythin'!
John tries his again. It fires doing no damage.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(yelling)
It's a trap! That bastard lured us in here! He made
sure...all the weapons here were useless.
Mary looks out the window. Sees the sheriff going
inside the sheriff's office.
180

MARY SUE
(shouting)
That...sonofabitch...is goin' back...to his office! If...I
could reach him...I'd show him...a good time!
She takes the rifle barrel. Pretends to ram it in thin
air.
ANGLE ON TAPEWORM
The massive thing regains its senses. Flies toward
them again. Again, it misses, as the threesome jumps
out of the way.
The massive tapeworm's body hits the far wall. It
makes cracks up and down from floor to ceiling.
FULL SHOT RED SQUAD'S HQ -- CONTINUOUS
We see the thing and the threesome. They are within
mere feet of each other. Captain Harrison pulls both
of his pearl-handled pistols.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Let's see the sheriff stop this!
He fires both guns. They rain bullets into the
creature's neck and head. Blood spews from various
wounds. The thing's mouth drops open. Four rows of
shark-like teeth can be seen. Bloody liquid drips
from the fangs.
181

SHEPARD
(shouting)
That's it...Capt'n...show the bastard's who's...
We see the monstrous tapeworm lounge for the black
man. He tries jumping to one side. It is too late. The
tapeworm's massive jaws latch on to Shepard's neck.
Blood spews from the wound.
SHEPARD
(screaming)
For...God's sake...help!!
Mary jumps with freight. John aims both pistols
again. Fires. They both click.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(yelling)
Goddammit...I'm out of bullets!!
FULL SHOT SHEPARD AND TAPEWORM --
CONTINUOUS
We see them dance around the room knocking over
chairs and tables. Shepard tries pulling the thing off.
It just coils around his neck and face leaving a
morbid mask of evil.
Shepard collapses to the floor. Kicking. Blood pours
from his wound. The monster squeezes harder. We
hear a SNAP! The black man stops moving. The
182

tapeworm uncoils itself leaving what used to be a
man's head. It now resembles a busted watermelon
with fluids and brain matter oozing to the floor.
ANGLE ON CAPTAIN HARRISON AND MARY
They back out of the office and into the hallway. All
at once we see the place go black as the electricity
goes out.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Ah...oh...this ain't good! Not... good at all!
Mary CRIES as we hear the massive serpent-like
thing slithering toward them.

DISSOLVE TO:
INT. SHERIFF'S OFFICE -- MOMENTS LATER
We see Sheriff MacArthur behind his desk. He's
using a cell phone.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
(laughs)
Yes...any minute now, General, and the town's yours.
Yes...yes...just a few more bugs to iron out...then you
can have it. Alright...I'll see to it. Yes, yes, they’re
no problem for this old, country sheriff. Okay...see
you then. Yeah...you to, General.
He turns the cell off. Peers out the window. Laughs
183

again.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
Oh...my...Red Squad must've forgotten to pay their
electric bill? Oh, well, as my Mama used to say...it's
always better to eat in the dark anyway. At least that
way...you can't see the food...and think it's nasty!
He leans back in his cushion chair. Cowboy boots on
the desk top. Hands behind his head.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
Yes, my friend, you fell for my trap...hook...line...and
sinker!!
We hear him laughing more, as he stares out the
open window.
ANGLE ON RED SQUAD'S HQ
We see what the sheriff sees: the tall building is
completely dark. Even the front entrance lights were
out. And just outside was waiting the dozen citizens
of Allentown. We could see them striking the front
entrance with their morbid, snake-like arms. Some
using massive tapeworm bodies to crash windows.
And the little girl with the tapeworm arm eases next
to the front entrance. She uses her mutant arm to
knock the door from its hinges. It flies inward, out of
sight.
184

The creatures all enter the place, one-by-one. The
little girl goes in last.

DISSOLVE TO:
INT. RED SQUAD'S HQ -- EVENING
We can barely make out Captain Harrison and
Mary. They dash down a long, winding hallway. At
the end they plow into a door. There's light coming
out from underneath it.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(out of breath)
An exit! If...I can...just get this bastard opened!!
He tries the knob. It's locked. Next he pulls a pocket
knife. Tries it in the knob. It's useless, nothing would
work. The control panel next to it was completely
darkened.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Dam...if we had lights...I could punch in the
code...and we'd be home free!
Mary hears the slithering coming closer behind
them. It sounds like a very large snake going through
dry underbrush.
Again, John slaps the door. Then the panel. It pops
off. Hits the dark floor.
185

CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Wait...one second!
We watch him in semi-darkness. His fingers work
with the wiring within the console. A small spark of
light strikes Mary's attention.
MARY SUE
(horrified. curious)
What...what the hell's that?
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
The exit panels! I don't know if the sheriff knew or
not...or anyone told him of it...has its own power. It’s
used just in case of a power failure...or doing a
disaster!
Mary looks down the long, dark corridor they just
came down.
FULL SHOT DARK CORRIDOR -- CONTINUOUS
We see nothing but blackness. Something like a large
alligator seems to be inching its way through the
dark.
ANGLE ON MARY SUE
She once again looks at John. She taps him on the
shoulder.
MARY SUE
Oh...John...I don't think we have time for diagrams
186

on how it works...just do it...please?
He quickly runs his finger over a few wires. They fall
loose. He puts one against a blue wire. It sparks
again. We hear a LOUD CLICK! The door pops
open a few inches. Sunlight floods the corridor.
FULL SHOT DARK CORRIDOR -- CONTINUOUS
We hear what sounds like a snake hissing. Then
scratching as Robert's bones hit the sides of the
corridor. The snake-like creature sees the twosome
about to escape. It leaps forward in a last attempt to
get at them.
The door slams shut in its gruesome face.
FULL SHOT BACKDOOR OF HQ --
CONTINUOUS
We see John and Mary holding the door closed as the
tapeworm plows into it again and again. Mary
almost falls. John catches her. The door halfway
opens. The tapeworm's horrible head pops out.
Mouth wide open. Fangs exposed with dripping fluid.
Mary SCREAMS with horror. John looks at what
she is screaming about. He turns white as a ghost.
Pulls his pistol. Hammers the thing's face with it.
Blood spews from what must have been an eye.
187

CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Let's...get the fuck outahere!
The twosome releases the door. The massive, green
tapeworm emerges dragging the grisly bones behind
it. Soon other people infected with the tapeworms
walk from the open door. They follow the twosome,
as they run down a side alley.
We see the little girl emerge last from the back
doorway of the Red Squad's HQ. She's smiling. The
dangling tapeworm for an arm seems to be leading
her onward. She accepts the path and follows the
others.

DISSOLVE TO:
INT. SHERIFF'S OFFICE -- MOMENTS LATER
Sheriff Johnny Dean MacArthur leans up in his
chair. Spies a distant Humvee nearby. He sees Mary
and John get inside it.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
(upset)
What...in the shit? It...can't be! They should be
dead by now!!
He picks up his desk phone. Throws it through the
glass window he was looking through.
188

SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
(pissed)
Goddammit...it just can't be! It can't be!! It’s not
supposed to happen this way!
We watch him walk around his desk. Grabs up a
high powered rifle that was hanging from the wall.
Using the scope on it, he clearly sees Mary getting
into the passenger side of the Humvee.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
That...little...bitch!!
He reaches for a box of shells. Opens them. Takes
one out. Holds it up in the air for closer inspection.
We can clearly see that it was alive. Looks like the
other earthworm-like thing he had earlier on. But it
was stiff, like a bullet.
He smiles. Laughs. Inserts the parasite shell into the
rifle.
Aiming through the scope, he laughs even more.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
(giggling like a mad man)
No...my friend...you don't get away that easily.
No...not at all!
He slowly squeezes the trigger.
189

FULL SHOT JOHN THROUGH RIFLE SCOPE'S
P.O.V. -- CONTINUOUS
He gets behind the wheel of his Humvee. Mary's
beside him. Behind them, we see the dozen town folk
emerging. Their bodies deformed even more than
before. Some collapse to the pavement, as tapeworms
push their way out of the bodies. Some of the worms
crawled. Others appear to be sliding their bodies
upright, like cobras in the wild.
SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
(laughing more as he sees his pets maturing)
Yes...my babies...you are almost fully grown!
Smiling, he squeezes the trigger all the way. The rifle
fires.

CUT TO:
INT. INSIDE HUMVEE -- CONTINUOUS
John bends down. Grabs up a pair of hidden keys.
The windshield CRACKS and EXPLODES sending
shards of glass all over Mary and John.
John still has his head lowered. Keys dangling in his
hands.
190

MARY SUE
(yelling)
Sniper!!
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(shouting)
Take...cover! I'll start it!
Mary looks at the head cushion behind John's head.
The bullet had gone through it. The busted fabric
starts peeling forward like banana peels. A
gruesome-looking head emerges. It's a tiny
tapeworm, like the one that killed Robert.
MARY SUE
(screaming)
John...behind you! The headrest!!
John pivots around. Sees the thing pulling itself out
of the seat. He jumps from the vehicle. Pulls off one
of his boots. Hits the seat as hard as he can. The
miniature thing tries flying at him, but falls to the
pavement. John's other boot flattens it to just a
bloodstain.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
How many more tricks does that sheriff have up his
sleeve?
John leaps back up into the Humvee. It’s surrounded
191

by mutating people. They strike the windows with
worm-shaped hands. Some spit saliva onto the
windows. The saliva swirls around with microscopic
worms crawling about the vehicle, trying to get in.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(yelling)
Hold on!! We're goin' for a ride!!
He starts the Humvee. Puts it into gear. Slams the
gas. The vehicle takes off.
FULL SHOT HUMVEE FROM SKY P.O.V. --
CONTINUOUS
We see the Humvee take off from a sitting position. It
plows through six of the people. Its wheels flattening
them. Their bodies burst open. Worms spill out like
maggots.
The vehicle flies down the street, toward the sheriff's
office. The people, zombie-like, follow behind as if
they could catch the thing.
FULL SHOT SHERIFF'S OFFICE --
CONTINUOUS
We see Sheriff Johnny Dean loading another
parasitic bullet into the rifle. He aims it toward the
oncoming vehicle. Pulls the trigger. The rifle jams.
192

SHERIFF JOHNNY DEAN
(shocked)
Oh...fuck!
He tries to un-jam the rifle. The Humvee is a block
away and gaining. The sheriff looks up just as the
vehicle plows right through the wall.
FULL SHOT OUTSIDE SHERIFF'S OFFICE
FROM ROOFTOP P.O.V. -- CONTINUOUS
We watch as the Humvee drives right through the
front wall of the sheriff's office. Bricks and glass fly
about. The Humvee disappears inside the place.
More debris falls covering it up. The tapeworm
people finally reach the building also. They crawl
and scratch at the collapsed structure trying to get
inside.
FULL SHOT INSIDE SHERIFF'S OFFICE --
CONTINUOUS
We see the sheriff get struck by the Humvee's front
bumper. He flies against the far back wall. Plaster
and metal beams fall all around like rain. Dust
covers everything.
The driver's door of the Humvee opens. Knocks over
a fallen beam. John steps out. He has one of his
pearl-handle pistols out.
193

He reaches in the back of the vehicle. Pulls out a box
of shells. Reloads the pistol.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(quietly)
Now...let's see the nice Sheriff stop this shit!
We hear the people out front digging and clawing
their way into the place. Pieces of plaster fall to the
floor. Mary steps from the Humvee. She goes for the
rifle the sheriff dropped as the Humvee hit him.
FULL SHOT BUSTED CORNER WHERE
SHERIFF FELL -- CONTINUOUS
As Mary picks up the rifle, a hand from the debris
flies outward. Grabs her wrist.
FULL SHOT MARY -- CONTINUOUS
Mary screams. John aims his pistol. Fires twice into
the place where Sheriff Johnny Dean MacArthur
was. The bullets tear up more plaster and metal.
The hand falls from Mary's wrist.
She aims the rifle at what she thinks is the head.
MARY SUE
This is for Robert...and Shepard... you bastard!
She fires the rifle. It recoils. The bullet disappears
into the head of the sheriff.
194

FULL SHOT INSIDE SHERIFF'S OFFICE --
CONTINUOUS
The tapeworm people finally bust through. They inch
inside the place. John and Mary leap back into the
Humvee. It cranks up. Flies backwards taking out
two more of the people. We see the girl with the
lollipop grab hold of the back bumper.
She is pulled behind it as the vehicle makes it to the
street. We see her pulling herself upward. At the
back glass, she uses her tapeworm-formed arm to
break the glass. She quickly leaps inside. Her
deformed arm's mouth falls open. Liquid pours from
the fangs hanging from it.
FULL SHOT INSIDE HUMVEE -- CONTINUOUS
We watch Mary aim the rifle toward the little girl's
head as she makes it to the back seat.
MARY SUE
(sobbing)
Sorry...baby...God be with you!
She pulls the trigger. The rifle clicks. It's empty.
MARY SUE
Shit, John, the rifle's empty!
She tosses it out the window. It strikes the ground. A
curious dog looks at it. Runs away.
195

John looks in the rear view mirror. We see the little
girl climbing into the back seat. She falls into it. Her
mutant arm weaving back and forth like some
morbid snake. It bites into the seat right behind
John's head.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(yelling)
Holy...shit! Watch out...honey... we're goin' for
another wild ride!
FULL SHOT HUMVEE FROM SKY P.O.V. --
CONTINUOUS
We watch as it weaves back and forth, going through
the streets of Allentown. It almost takes out a large
sign that reads: WELCOME TO ALLENTOWN --
WHERE LITTLE THINGS MATTER.
FULL SHOT INSIDE HUMVEE -- CONTINUOUS
We see the little girl fall to the left then to the right,
as the Humvee takes sharp curves. At one turn, she
strikes the right window pane with her face. Blood
pours from a wound.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(to Mary)
Hold the wheel!
She takes the steering wheel. John pulls his pistol
196

again. Turns, places the barrel into the girl's mouth.
We see tears running down her young face.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(screams)
God...help me!
He pulls the trigger. The little girl's head explodes.
She flies all the way back to the back, broke window.
She falls out it and onto the pavement.
Mary cries aloud. The Humvee runs out of control.
FULL SHOT HUMVEE FROM SKY P.O.V. --
CONTINUOUS
It crashes into a large building. Wood and metal fall
onto of it.
We watch as three hearse-like vehicles drive pass the
Humvee. They drive up to the little girl. Two men in
protected suits get out. Grab up the girl's body. Place
it inside large drums marked as 'ROGUE #467'.
FULL SHOT INSIDE HUMVEE -- CONTINUOUS
John's head slams against the steering wheel. Mary
flies against the dashboard.
MARY SUE
(screaming)
You...alright...honey?
John easily leans back in his seat. Rubs his head.
197

CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Dam...fuckin'...headache! What... the hell happened
to the airbags?
Mary eases back in her seat. Rubs her nose.
MARY SUE
(slowly)
Don't know...John...look!
She points out the back window.
Her and John watch as the three hearses slowly drive
by. They force their way from the wrecked Humvee.
Watch as the scene takes place.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(puzzled)
What...in the hell? I...thought with all this goin'
on...that they'd be dead...or on the run...like everyone
else 'round here.
Mary watches as some of the men in plastic-
protected suits lift the little girl's body up, then
places it inside the drum. They snap the lid back on
top. Re-enter the hearse and drive on down the
street. They do this until everyone that was killed is
placed within the drums. Afterwards, they re-enter
their hearse-like vehicles. Drive off in the direction in
which they came.
198

CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
No way...this is happening?

CUT TO:
EXT. HEARSES LEAVING TOWN -- EVENING
We watch John and Mary. They steal the sheriff's
car and slowly follow the three vehicles. They travel
east out of town. Ten miles down the road we see a
gigantic warehouse in the middle of nowhere.

CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
I...don't believe it. I been doing this job for three
years...and I never knew this was out here.
MARY SUE
What do you think it is?
John slows the sheriff's car down. Following close,
but not too close, behind the hearses.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
All I can think of...is where they have been carrying
all of the infected...or dead people to all this time.
He checks his pistol. It's has three bullets left.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Wonder what goes on in there?
199

FULL SHOT SHERIFF'S CAR FROM SKY P.O.V.
-- LATER
We see the car pull into a parking lot. The hearses
disappear within a parking garage with a giant metal
door. Before the door shuts, John and Mary rush
inside.
FULL SHOT INSIDE PARKING GARAGE --
CONTINUOUS
It is lit by hundreds of overhead lights. Only the
three hearses are visible. We watch as John and
Mary hide behind one of the vehicles. The men from
the hearses step out. Enter through a side door that
has a sign overtop that reads: ROGUE ENTRANCE
PERSONNEL ONLY.
John and Mary barely make it to the door as it shuts.
They wait about one minute. John tries the door. It's
unlocked. They both walk inside.

DISSOLVE TO:
INT. GIGANTIC FACTORY COMPLEX --
EVENING
We see what looks like a plastics factory. Conveyor
belts line the far back of the place. They are running.
Things like long, black trash bags come off of them.
200

People wearing protected suits place the six-foot bags
in wooden boxes. Thousands of the things are placed
individually into separate crates.
Hidden behind a large, metal trash bin, John and
Mary watch closely.
MARY SUE
(whispering)
What...are they making?
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(quietly)
Don't know for sure. We better get a closer look.
We watch them inch around the trash bin. Three of
the hearse people come out of a distant doorway.
With them are a dozen drums that they used earlier
to put the dead people and dead tapeworms in. Using
large-wheeled carts, they inch the drums to what
resembles a large, circular washing machine made
into the ground. It's at least sixty feet in diameter.
ANGLE ON CAPTAIN HARRISON AND MARY
They eye one another with wonder.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(quietly)
Wonder what they keep in there?
Mary shrugs her shoulders. Watches intently at the
201

proceedings.
FULL SHOT GIGANTIC FACTORY COMPLEX --
NIGHT
The three hearse people look down at the vertex that
resembles a washing machine's face. They go around
the wheeled-carts. Press a series of switches on its
side. The cart rises upward. The drums drop one-by-
one into the pit. The pit's massive door slowly closes.
We see them turn toward where Mary and John
were hid.
ANGLE ON CAPTAIN HARRISON AND MARY
They quickly dodge behind what looks like a metal
door as the hearse people stare in their direction.
Peering around to see if it is clear, John sighs a
breath of relief.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
It's alright, honey, they're gone. I...don't know
how...but they're just gone. Wait a minute?
MARY SUE
What is it?
She finally peeks to where John was looking. Her
eyes grow large as saucers.
202

MARY SUE
(shock)
I...don't believe it! It can't...be!
John leans back against the door. Checks his pistol.
We see only three bullets left.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Now...we know who's the head boss is!
MARY SUE
But...I thought...he was one of the good guys?
John looks at his wife. Makes ready his pistol.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Baby...in this game...I don't believe they're any good
guys at all!
They both now peer over the edge of the door,
looking an amazement.
FULL SHOT GIGANTIC FACTORY COMPLEX --
CONTINUOUS
We clearly see that the massive door that shut earlier
was now lying wide open. A man in a general's
uniform was standing next to it. His name tag reads
GENERAL NELSON.
He looks down into the deep vortex. Smiles. Wipes
what looks like a knife blade off with a cloth.
203

GENERAL NELSON
(laughing)
Yes...I know, Master. Welcome them over here? As
you wish!
He turns. Looks right to where Captain Harrison
and Mary hid behind the door.
GENERAL NELSON
I hate to bother you two...but why hide where you
can't be seen? Spying isn't any fun. Believe me, son,
I did it for well over twenty-five years: Iraq, Iran,
Russia...hell, even here in our own little U S of A.
Now...why not come out...and join the party?
ANGLE ON CAPTAIN HARRISON AND MARY
They look at each other in disbelief.

MARY SUE
(whispering)
Think he's trying to bluff us? Just to see if anyone's
here?
John shakes his head.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
No, honey, I believe the bastard knows that we're
here. I don't know how...but he just knows. Most
likely hidden cameras or somethin'.
204

Mary smiles as she kisses her husband.
MARY SUE
Honey...you know when you ask me if I was in this all
the way?
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Yeah...I remember.
MARY SUE
I wouldn't change my mind for the world.
John smiles. Kisses her back. Slowly hides the pistol
in the back of his pants.
They walk around the door in plain sight. They
slowly walk to where the General stood.
FULL SHOT GIGANTIC FACTORY COMPLEX
FROM CEILING P.O.V. -- CONTINUOUS
We see John and Mary walk toward the General. He
smiles wide. The vortex seems to glow with bright
light. John glances upwards. Sees some sort of laid
out pipe that runs crisscross alone the inside of the
roof. Steam spits out at intervals. It runs right
toward the back of the place and disappears from
sight.
Once at the General's side, the twosome stops.
205

FULL SHOT GENERAL NELSON, JOHN AND
MARY -- CONTINUOUS
GENERAL NELSON
Welcome, Capt'n John Harrison. You know...you
were right in not calling me to begin with.
We see John's expression of surprise.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
How...did you know that?
GENERAL NELSON
If you didn't know before...you will now. My
friend...the entire town's bugged. Oh...when I say
bugged, I don't mean microscopic computers.
He reaches inside his pocket. Pulls out a small metal
box that looks like the one the sheriff had earlier.
GENERAL NELSON
(laughing)
I mean this kind of bug.
He opens the box. The lid hits the ground. There,
inside, looking like it was asleep, was a tiny, worm-
like thing.
GENERAL NELSON
Yes, my friend, they're all over Allentown...possibly
the entire country by now. They listen...tell us what
we need to know. The sheriff was only the first...of
206

our puppets... there are others...others in higher
places.
Mary watches in horror.
MARY SUE
You mean...those things are all over the country?
The General nods. Laughs. Picks the lid back up.
Closes the metal box. Puts it away.
GENERAL NELSON
They will be...at least by tomorrow night.
He looks at the gigantic vortex as he notices John and
Mary staring at it.
GENERAL NELSON
Ah...yes! I see you’re wondering what this is. Well...if
you must know, it’s the shuttle’s escape pod. It was
brought here months ago.
John and Mary stare at one another in amazement.
MARY
John...Ted Nelson...the news reporter?
Remember...he said something about the escape pod
being taking to some...undisclosed location?
With this, we hear what sounds like thunder. Then a
sinister voice like that of a demon breaks the silence.
This is the MASTER within the escape pod.
207

MASTER
(deep voice)
Enough...you give away...too...much information.
They...do...not... need to know...such things. Not...
unless...I see fit...to tell...them!
The vortex glows more than before. A dark shadow
rises from it. It goes on and on until it almost touches
the ceiling that was seventy feet up. The rest of its
body remains in the vortex. The gigantic, black
tapeworm coils downwards. Its bloody, cut up face
inches from the General's. Its face was flat like a bull
dog's. Hundreds of slit-like eyes cover most of its
features. A massive, shark-like mouth falls open.
Razor sharp teeth drip acid-like liquid.
John and Mary almost fall down in shock. John
instantly goes for his pistol. He gets it. Aims at the
creature's face. Fires a shot. It hits the massive
tapeworm. It seems to have no effect on the monster.
MASTER
Oh...human toys. How...I...love... them!
With this, a thousand tentacle-like arms reach
forward. Coil around the pistol. Rips it out of John's
hand like candy. The Master looks at it closely.
Opens its mouth. Swallows it up. Belches like a
208

drunk.
MASTER
Yes...love...your toys! Now back to...you...General.
No...more...info ...unless I...say...so!
The General falls to his knees. Cries.
GENERAL NELSON
(sobbing)
Forgive me...my Master. It won't...happen again!
MASTER
(laughing)
Make sure...you keep your word, ole friend. If
not...then I'll swallow you as I did the pistol...and
those people with the drums. Oh...they... were so
tasty!!
ANGLE ON CAPTAIN HARRISON AND MARY
They watch in all out terror. The thing before them
was at least sixty feet tall and ten feet wide. And what
was beneath it inside the escape pod was anyone's
guess.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Do...do we get...introduced?
He smiles, just a little.
Mary throws a glance in his direction. He winks at
her. She grins back with terror in her eyes.
209

FULL SHOT GIGANTIC FACTORY COMPLEX --
CONTINUOUS
General Nelson smiles. Stands. Looks to the massive
blob of flesh that rose up behind him like some
morbid jack-in-the-box.
GENERAL NELSON
Oh, yes, this is our new king...he likes to be
called...Master!
John appears to bow. Eyes Mary at the same time.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Well...nice to know you...Master.
The massive, tilting creature appears to grin. Its
teeth appearing like saw blades in a convention
where the tools have gone wild.
MASTER
Yes...humans...you are greatly honored to have...me
as your...new Master.
Do...not...forget...your...place... here!
John shakes his head.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Never crossed my mind. Master, was it?
MASTER
Don't...play with me, silly human! I...know...you are
planning an escape as you speak! Don't worry,
210

though, you can not worry about that. Here... you
will stay...and die...in just minutes!
FULL SHOT CAPTAIN HARRISON, MARY AND
GENERAL NELSON -- CONTINUOUS
We see John. He eyes the pistol at the general's side.
He dives for it. Quickly gets the weapon. Shoots the
general in the forehead. The general looks shocked.
Falls backward into the pit. Gets caught between the
massive tapeworm and the vortex.
ANGLE ON GIGANTIC TAPEWORM
It starts straining to get out of the pit. Finds that it is
stop because of the general's body. It has lodged
between its body and the escape pod like a wedge.
MASTER
(yelling and spitting)
Dam...you...stupid...human! Now... you die more
horribly than...I first envisioned!!
The gigantic worm leans its head back. Its tentacle-
like arms trying to grab John or Mary and pull the
general out at the same instant. It opens its mouth.
Makes a high pitch scream that breaks every glass
object within the factory. John and Mary hold their
ears as the scream, more like a whistle, deafens them.
211

FULL SHOT GIGANTIC FACTORY COMPLEX
FROM CEILING P.O.V. -- CONTINUOUS
We see the conveyer belts come to a halt. Their
motors burn up with smoke and fire. The crates were
the long plastic bags were crumbled to pieces. The
plastic bags start squirming like something was alive
inside them.
The bags rip open. Tapeworms emerge. They stand
up on what resemble flat-looking feet. The feet soon
begin to flip, then flop. The creatures start moving
toward John and Mary. Slowly at first, then they
gain speed. Their flat-shape heads wiggle this way
and that. Tiny holes emerge. Out of these tiny holes
barrels-like things stick out. The tapeworms aim
these at the twosome.
ANGLE ON CAPTAIN HARRISON, MARY AND
MONSTROUS TAPEWORM
Witnessing this, the twosome turn to run for the exit.
The gigantic tapeworm that is still trapped within the
vortex squeezes its body even more. It soon breaks
loose of the dead general's body. It pulls itself from
the deep escape pod. Mary and John see that the
monster was at least a hundred feet tall. Its massive
head scratches the ceiling. Its centipede-like arms
212

reach out grabbing things that wasn't tied down:
crates, wooden beams, a long hearse personnel that
happens by. It takes his body, holds it to its many
teeth mouth. Chews his head off, then his shoulders,
then spine and on down until the man was no more.
The giant monster spies the twosome. Laughs.

MASTER
Run...run...if...you wish...it'll do you no...good here!
My worm soldiers will get you...if not...then I'll
have...fun hunting you down...then bite by bite...I'll
make your death fun...for me!!
His laughter was like thunder mixed with some
demon's voice. It made Mary almost fall, as John
quickly grabs her back up.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
We've...got to get goin'! I...don't know how...or
why...but that thing...is controlling...our movements!
My...guess...is vibrations from its voice!
We see the two as they make their way toward the
doorway where they first entered the factory. It is
locked. They glance behind. See the massive creature
snaking toward them, eating everything in its path.
Behind it were the worm soldiers. Their number was
213

uncountable. It appeared the whole factory was
moving. All you could see was tapeworm after
tapeworm in groups of twenty. All right behind their
king.
MARY SUE
Good...God, John, we're done for! There's no...way
of stopping that thing! And those smaller ones... did
you see those things that came out of their faces?
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(out of breath)
Yes...like tiny pistol barrels. And if I remember
correctly...didn't our friend the sheriff use
those...worms for ammo?
Mary appears sick.
MARY SUE
You don't think?
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
I pray not! We better find another way out of this
place...and hurry!
FULL SHOT GIGANTIC FACTORY COMPLEX --
CONTINUOUS
We see the giant tapeworm. It's almost upon the
twosome. The humans resemble tiny bugs trying to
escape a massive snake. And behind all of this the
214

worm soldiers advance. Shooting what looks like tiny
darts. The darts stick to walls and tables. Upon
impact, tiny maggot-looking worms spill forth,
taking over whatever they hit.
John and Mary leave the locked door. They quickly
make a dash for another doorway that is on the
opposite side of the factory. They leap over fallen
tables, broke conveyer belts, flames from burnt
motors, and other odds and ends.
The massive tapeworm sees this. It coils its body like
a rattlesnake. Leaps toward the two people. Barely
misses them. The worm soldiers turn also. Shooting
parasite missiles that come close to striking Mary's
legs. She jumps a toppled computer console. Falls
with John right out in front. They soon regain their
posture. Continue onward toward the faraway
doorway. The Master creature slams into walls and
motors until it makes a straight line to John and
Mary.
ANGLE ON CAPTAIN HARRISON AND MARY
They are within inches of the doorway. They make it.
John quickly turns the knob. He pushes Mary out the
door. Slams it shut behind her. We hear her
pounding on the door from the outside. John turns
215

around, faces the Master Tapeworm and its cohorts.
He pulls out the general's pistol. Aims it at the
massive tapeworm's body mass.
FULL SHOT MASTER TAPEWORM AND WORM
SOLDIERS -- CONTINUOUS
They stop feet from John. The gigantic tapeworm
opens its mouth. Breaths all about the tiny human.
The soldiers stop somewhere behind their master,
awaiting orders.
MASTER
(breathing deeply)
At last...human...you have giving yourself...a little
more time...but that has now come to an end. Your
mate...has made her freedom...but within this new
revolution of mine ...it will be only temporary. Only
temporary. Captain John Harrison... make ready to
die!
FULL SHOT CAPTAIN HARRISON AND
MASTER TAPEWORM -- CONTINUOUS
We see the tapeworm's enormous head lower toward
John's upper torso. John's hair blows askew as the
creature's breath strikes his head. John aims the
pistol toward the monster. The worm soldiers just
216

wait.

MASTER
(loudly)
What...shall you...do with that... toy, human?
Surely...you saw what happened the last time you
tried shooting me? I...am not harmed by such things.
So...I insist...shoot away...it shall be your last act in
this world!
John looks at the pistol. The giant creature seems to
smile. Awaits the shot.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(wise crack)
Yes...I remember...you fat blob of lard! The bullet
just disappeared within your ugly head! But...I'm
not going to shoot you!
The Master tapeworm's head eases backward.
Confused.
MASTER
What...do you mean, human? Please explain while I
make room for you in my thirteen bellies!
We see John look at the monstrous tapeworm. Then
the soldiers behind it. Now John's attention is drawn
upwards. The massive tapeworm follows his
217

direction.
FULL SHOT ROOF OF FACTORY --
CONTINUOUS
As we look up, we clearly see a gigantic pipe used to
transport hot liquids back and forth between the
machines where the conveyer belts are. The pipe
runs all the way back to the far wall where it runs
down the wall and into the furnace room.
FULL SHOT MASTER TAPEWORM AND WORM
SOLDIERS -- CONTINUOUS
They eyeball this all the way to where it enters the
furnace. The Master tapeworm looks confused. Then
it strikes him.
MASTER
Kill the human! Quick!
It's too late.
FULL SHOT CAPTAIN HARRISON AND
MASTER TAPEWORM -- CONTINUOUS
John shoots the pipe just above the tapeworm's head.
It explodes. Hot liquid pours out like a busted dam.
It covers the gigantic tapeworm's head and upper
body. Steam shoots about. Its black-like skin starts to
peel from all of the extreme heat. It screams bloody
murder. Everything in the factory seems to crash
218

and break. Even the stone walls start to crack open.
The worm soldiers try running, only to slip in the
hot, scalding water. They scream also. Their bodies
melting into puddles of wax. Washing down the
sewer drains.
Captain John dives to one side. The spewing-hot
liquid barely misses his two legs. He makes the door.
Shoves it open. Slams it shut behind him.
The monstrous tapeworm screams. Slams its body
against the walls of the place. More flames shoot
outward, the pouring liquid adds to it. Together they
create a spark. The flames grow more intense. The
entire factory is soon covered in nothing more than
swirling flames licking at everything it comes in
contact with. The massive tapeworm's body collapses
to the stone floor. Flames eating at it.
FULL SHOT OUTSIDE FACTORY -- NIGHT
John and Mary quickly climb a nearby hill. Find one
of the hearses that were used earlier. Get inside.
Start it. Head toward town. Behind them we see the
entire factory exploding. Flames and smoke reach
way above the tree tops. The night sky lights up like
day.
The hearse-like vehicle disappears over a distant hill.
219

FULL SHOT INSIDE HEARSE -- CONTINUOUS
John and Mary hold hands. They kiss. Mary looks at
her husband. Forces a small smile.
MARY SUE
(softly)
You know...I do love you.
John smiles. Kisses her again.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Yeah...I know.
MARY SUE
Now...what?
John turns a sharp curve. Hits a hole. Keeps going.

CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
(softly)
What do you suppose we do?
Mary looks in the glove box. Finds nothing but
paperwork and one newspaper.
MARY SUE
I suppose we find the rest...of those people...that that
Master thing referred to as his...puppets.
CAPTAIN JOHN HARRISON
Yeah...but where do we start...and who do we look
for?
220

Mary smiles. Holds his hand.
MARY SUE
I'd say...let's start with the President.
She holds up the newspaper that she found in the
glove box. On the front cover was the picture of the
President of the United States. He was waving.
Throwing kisses to the crowd of people standing
around him.
Underneath the picture, in large red writing was:
THE PRESIDENT. GUN CONTROL HIS MOTTO.
A smaller picture below this was showing the
President holding a tiny, metal box. It looks exactly
like the ones that the sheriff and General Nelson had
used earlier on.
