 Introduction
      Waste management has become one of the key issues of the modern world, an
      international issue that is intensified by the volume and complexity of domestic and
      industrial wastes. There is a need for more research on current disposal methods such as
      landfills, incineration and chemical treatment, but also on recycling, waste minimization,
      clean technologies, waste monitoring, public and corporate awareness and general
      education. ICWEM 2010 will be organized by the China Civil Engineering Society
      (CCES), the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE), the Canadian Society for Civil
      Engineering (CSCE) and the Tongji University. The conference is of particular interest for
      experts, engineers and related professionals engaged in professional activities related to
      environmental management, environmental sustainability, the control of air, water and
      land pollution, and the design, construction and operation of waste disposal facilities
      (land/water/air).

 Goals
    1. To advance the understanding and applications of engineering with respect to sustainable
       development in general, and environmental engineering and management in particular.
    2. To advance integrated approaches to waste management, as appropriate, for different
       waste streams.
    3. To promote the exchange of technical, scientific and professional knowledge on waste
       engineering and management to better serve the interests and welfare of CCES, HKIE,
       and CSCE members, the engineering profession in general, and the public in China,
       Hong Kong, Canada, and throughout the world.

 Call for Paper
      All submissions should include a title, a list of authors with affiliations, and an abstract
      not exceeding 300 words. Abstracts should be submitted electronically as a Microsoft
      Word or Adobe PDF document. The paper should be well written with acceptable
      English exposition, and the content should be practical, innovative and forward-looking.
      If at all possible, please submit via the Online Abstract Form (which is available at
      http://civileng.tongji.edu.cn/ICWEM2010), or e-mail your abstracts before 28 February

 Registration
      The registration fee for the conference is set as at Euro €.500 for each delegate (early
      registration before July 1, 2010), which will cover one copy of proceedings, a welcome
      reception buffet, lunches, a banquet and technical visit.
