Times: Monday -Friday 0800-1600, Saturday 0800-1700
Please be prepared to stay later on the Saturday in case the exams over-run
You must be at least 16 years old at the start of the course.
You must be able to swim 50 metres in no more than a minute.
You must be able to jump/dive into deep water.
You must be able to swim 100 metres continuously on front and back.
You must be happy completely submerging to a depth of 3.4m to the floor of the pool.
You must be able to tread water in deep water for a period of no less than 30 seconds.
You must be able to climb out unaided without ladder/steps and where the pool design permits.
You will be able to listen and carry out precise instructions.
You will be able to learn information with time limitations.
You will have a good sense of humour.
You will need to bring:
Pen and paper
Old pair of shorts and t-shirt (a short wetsuit may be worn whilst practicing how to deal with spinal injuries)
A body/casualty will be required to help speed up the assessment (Saturday from 1400). They should be over 16
yrs old and competent in the water. Ideally they should hold their own NPLQ.
Snack available from the vending machines. Lunch is not provided

The full course payment must be taken to confirm booking. Please send booking forms and payment to Wellington Sports
Centre, Wellington, Somerset, TA21 8LL. The full cost includes unit 1 and unit 2. For more information ring Wellington
Sports Centre on 01823 663010. All information is subject to change. Placement is given on a first come first serve basis.
Please be aware that courses may be cancelled if fewer than 6 people are enrolled on the course. Tone Leisure reserves
the right to remove any candidate from the course without refund if their conduct is disruptive or negatively impacts other
course candidate(s). Refunds are given depending on individual circumstances (£50 of your course payment is non-
refundable). Wherever possible Tone Leisure will try to offer an alternative course. If further examination is necessary an
additional payment will be required (approx £40).
This Qualification lasts for 2 years. Whilst working as a lifeguard it is necessary for you to complete staff training. At Least
20 hours of training must be completed within a two-year period in order to retake the assessment. All employers provide
training for their staff and most will pay for the re-assessment at the end of the two years. Completing this course does not
guarantee employment with Tone Leisure. Applications for employment are available on the Tone Leisure website.

Proof of validation will be required. Please contact the course trainer for further information. It is recommended that despite
existing certification the full course be attended.
This course can be physically demanding so it is advised that other activities such as evening work/activities etc are not
carried out the week of the course.
