PROCEDURE Total Lesson Time: 1-3 hours
Step 1: Ask a student leader to read over this lesson plan and make sure they communicate with students to bring their
new SOTA ID and proof of address for the next MPG.
Acceptable ID - driver’s license with photography, state issued ID with photo, Indian tribal affiliation card,
passport, foreign visa, alien registration card issued by US gov. military ID, school ID, Mexican Consular
identification Card (Matricula Consular)
Acceptable proof of address – pre-printed checks from student’s bank with street address, utility bill with parent
name, rental agreement recent mail with applicant’s name, residence and postal cancellation stamp not more
than four weeks old or if the address is in the mail envelope it can’t be opened.
Step 3: Make appointment with Tacoma Public Library Main Branch on Tacoma Avenue to help your students get
a library card. Tell them how many students will be coming.
Step 4: As students receive their library card, encourage them to explore the library and check out a book to read.
Encourage group reads like a book club within your MPG. Ask the student who leads this lesson to
create a blog on your website so students can discuss ideas they are reading in the book.
