What is the purpose of the Farnborough Area Association?
The FAA’s aim is to support CSSC members, who live or work in the Area boundaries, in
pursuit of their social and sporting activities. To achieve this aim the FAA receives and
distributes an annual rebate from the CSSC. Read on to see the range of activities the FAA
is currently supporting.

Love Sport…
If you enjoy sport, we have so much to offer you. We support a huge range of events for all
abilities. Events take place on a local, regional, national and even international level, so you
should be able to find something which suits you. Locally through the Cody Sports and
Social Club we can provide access to facilities for archery, bowls, cricket, netball, volleyball,
tennis and support both cross-country running and mountain biking and there’s plenty of
green space for a BBQ afterwards. Two examples:-

    1. Bowls
The bowls season commenced on the 25th April and continues until the 19th September. The
club has two teams in the Aldershot and District League plus numerous friendly fixtures
throughout the season. Club competitions are run throughout the season plus 5 one day
competitions for members. On Tuesday lunchtimes their qualified bowls coach, Don
McDarmaid, will be at the Club with a number of new bowlers giving them guidance and
encouragement. Any new bowlers will be welcomed.

The Club received a grant from the FAA for the Verti-Draining and purchase of top dressing
for the green last September and we are enjoying playing on the improved green this
season.

Contact the Bowls Secretary at peter.adams77@ntlworld.com telephone 01276 35470 for
more information.

    2. Cody Tennis Club
We have 2 floodlit courts at the Cody Sports and Social Club grounds. Individual and family
membership is available for all year round play. Come and join in the Turn up and Play
sessions every lunchtime. Compete in the mixed (men and women) singles ladder or
arrange your own matches with friends. The club has an LTA licensed coach for individual or
group lessons.

Note to other Clubs if you would like your activity advertised in this news letter please let us
have the details and it will be done.
Enjoy the Social life?
The FAA affiliation with the Cody Sports and Social Club provides members with a venue to
play a range of sports which include chess and snooker, and pursue social activities, such
as the monthly quiz. These facilities are available to all CSSC members embraced by the
FAA boundaries.

Is the cinema your scene?
The FAA can offer you massive savings on cinema tickets that can be used for the whole
family; Odeon tickets are £5.00 each, and VUE tickets just £4.00 each.

Enjoy the theatre, dining out or supporting your local team?
The FAA also help members and their partners enjoy other social and sporting activities. To
this end the FAA will either:
A) reimburse FAA members 10% of the cost (including travel, up to a maximum of £10
       per event) of up to 4 social events per annum;
or B) reimburse FAA members 10% of the cost (up to a maximum of £40) of a season ticket
       for a social event venue.

A social event could be, for instance, a trip to the theatre, a flower show, a theme park or
other venue of a similar nature, or attending a sporting event as a spectator.
Ticket stubs/receipts and CSSC membership number are to be submitted (along with a SAE)
to the FAA Treasurer who will issue a cheque for the rebate.

The FAA offers its members grant support too!
Are you keen to be paragliding, trekking across the arctic wastes, competing in sporting
events, or running a sporting section or team? These are examples of activities where the
FAA Grants scheme has helped individuals and teams to take part in their chosen activities.
If you believe your activity needs a little extra support get in touch and we will advise you on
how to submit your grant application.

FI 2010
Want to visit the Farnborough International Airshow in July? We are currently seeking a
volunteer to organise tickets at reduced prices for the Public and Trade days of the Airshow.
The organiser will receive a free ticket.

Leaving the civil service?
If you are retiring or leaving the civil service you can still retain your membership. Simply call
us on 01494 888 444 and we will tell you how to do this.
