THE REDFIELD REVIEW
AUGUST 2008
Redfield Old Settlers
Well this years Old Settlers Celebration is finally behind us, and the planning for next year’s celebration
has already started. There will be more information in the months to come. Just a reminder, Redfield
will turn 149 years old next year. That means our 150th will be in 2010. Let’s come up with some
great ideas for the next two years. In case you were unable to attend this year’s event here are some
highlights.
The kiddie parade brought out the Dark Knight and Company featuring Dion Rogers as Joker, Sonya
Rogers as Cat Woman, Dalton Harwood as Batman, and Olivia Harwood at Poison Ivy for 1st place. 2nd
place were Popeye the Sailor man - Haley Scott; Olive Oil - Ella Sand and Sweat Pea - Emma Sand. 3rd
place were Dennis the Menace and Margaret featuring Alexander Morrison and Page Grasty. And we
can’t forget the Family Circus featuring Sam Barker, Alisha Barker, Moriah Hammond and Jeremy
Barker. Thanks very much to all of the kids that participated in this year’s parade. The other children’s
category brought Aiden Byrnes out as Spiderman, Malakai Fosselman as Superman and Owen Harwood
as Power Ranger.
In the business category, Wells Fargo Bank and The Dexfield Diner tied for 1st place in the parade. The
Redfield Christian Church won 1st place for the Organization/Clubs; Larry & Cindy Pauley won in the
Independent category; Freestone Trucking won Antique Tractor; and Larry Morrison won with his 1960
Blue Chevy Impala in the Antique Car category. Congratulations to all of you.
There were 30 kids that signed up for the Kiddie Tractor Pull. In the 3-4 year old group, Zack Steward
won 1st place, Brooke Willis 2nd place and Louis Jones 3rd place. 5-6 year old group, Jacob Worthington
won 1st place, Aiden Byrnes 2nd and Jace Willis 3rd place. 7-8 year old group, Cole Knoll won 1st place,
Alicia Barker 2nd and Bailey McLaughlin 3rd place. And the 9-10 year old group, Levi Johnson won 1st
place, Jeremy Barker 2nd place and Chase Knolles 3rd place. Great job!!
The Bill Riley Talent Show brought a lot of great talent to town. If you make it to the Iowa State Fair,
keep your eyes open for the individuals that qualified to go to the State Fair. In the Sprouts Division,
Carleigh Pittman, from Panora, won 1st place; Maddy Darrah, from Van Meter, won 2nd place and Shana
Liu, from Urbandale, won 3rd place. Carleigh had already qualified for the State Fair at other show
which means Maddy will be headed to the State Fair.
In the Senior Division winning 1st place and qualifying for the State Fair we had a String Quartet
featuring Peige Zhou, Deborah Yu, Elizebeth Davidson and Caitlin Goodman, all from West Des Moines.
Jonathan Peasley, from Stuart, won 2nd place and Danielle Berger, from Ankeny, won 3rd place.
Sunday’s Church in the park was very well attended. And the fireworks went off Sunday night with a
Bang!
I’d like to personally thank all the volunteers that helped with mailing forms, selling tickets, getting
entertainment, Bill Riley Show, Parade, Sound System, judges and more. We couldn’t have done it
without you.

There have been a lot of dogs running loose in town
lately.
Shouldn’t we all keep better tabs on our pets?
