Please review the qualifications (described on the summary page)
for the scholarship/training grant for which you are applying.
Qualified applicants must submit the following:

1) A personal biography, resume or CV detailing relevant activities (not to
exceed 2 pages). The biography is required for ALL applicants. The
following four awards have additional, specific requirements regarding
information that must be included in your resume:

    For the WDHOF Cecelia Connelly Memorial Scholarship in Underwater
     Archaeology, include how you became interested in underwater
     archaeology, the high points of your experience in underwater
     archaeology to date, what your future goals are and how you would
     use this scholarship.
    For the WDHOF Undergraduate Marine Research Internship in Marine
     Biology, your resume should include a list of applicable courses
     completed and a list of all internships for which you have applied. A
     copy of college transcripts is also required.
    For the WDHOF Ocean Pals Junior Dive Training Grant, your resume
     should include a list of the extracurricular activities (in or outside of
     school) in which you have participated or are currently participating
     (e.g., student government, music, sports, volunteer work, scouts,
     etc.). Also please indicate any awards or honors you have received,
     and a list and description of any work experience (if applicable).
    For the WDHOF Women’s Scuba Association Dive Training Grant,
     documentation of your enrollment in the Navy's NJROTC or NROTC
     program is required.

2) An essay that states your professional goals and how the scholarship or
training grant will help you achieve them (approximately 750 - 1000 words).
The essay is required for ALL applicants.

3) Two letters of recommendation from persons in your community, scuba
instructor, teachers, or professors who can assess your likelihood of success
with the scholarship or training grant. Letters are to be e-mailed from the
referee directly to: spomponi@hboi.fau.edu.      Please ask the referee to
include your name in the subject line. The 2 letters of recommendation
are required for ALL applicants. The following two awards have specific
requirements regarding the letters of recommendation:
         For the WDHOF Cecelia Connelly Memorial Scholarship in
          Underwater Archaeology, the two letters of recommendation must
          be from either faculty or field study supervisors. A statement
          verifying your GPA and good standing at the institution should be
          contained in one of the letters (including the referee’s contact
          information).
         For the WDHOF Undergraduate Marine Research Internship in
          Marine Biology, the two reference letters must be from referees
          who can assess your likelihood of success with an internship at an
          aquarium, zoo, or research institute.

4) The following two awards have specific requirements regarding scuba
certification information that must be provided:

    For the WDHOF Hugh Fletcher Memorial Training Grant, the WDHOF
     Scuba Made Easy Training Grant, and the WDHOF Women Underwater
     Technical Diving Training Grant, please provide a list of all your scuba
     certifications (if applicable) to include: a) the level of certification, b) the
     training agency which issued them & certification number, c) the date
     issued, and d) the instructor's name.
    For the WDHOF Reimers Systems, Inc. Certified Hyperbaric Technician
     Training Grant, please provide scanned copies of both sides of your
     highest level of scuba certification card, any EMT card(s) and other
     pertinent licenses or certifications.

The above items should be sent electronically together with this completed
application form as attachments. These documents must contain file
extensions and be compatible and readable on a Windows platform! This
form should be saved as a Word file. Biography, essay, and letters of
recommendation can be sent as TEXT (.txt), WORD (.doc) or Acrobat (.pdf)
files. For letters of recommendation in hardcopy format, we recommend
using a scanner to reproduce/convert them into an electronic format. Scan
them at 100 dpi (screen resolution) in black and white (NOT COLOR!) and
save them as JPG (.jpg) or TIFF (.tif) or Acrobat (.pdf) files.

spomponi@hboi.fau.edu in the preferred file formats listed above. It is
required that your application be sent as one COMPLETE package. In the
Subject line, please indicate WDHOF AWARD APPLICATION and
[YOUR NAME].

The deadline for receipt of applications is November 15, 2008 at midnight
U.S. Eastern Standard Time. ONE EXCEPTION: THE DEADLINE FOR THE
WDHOF/UNDERGRADUATE MARINE RESEARCH INTERNSHIP IS JANUARY 30,
2009. Only electronic submissions will be accepted.

Please retain a copy of your completed application and all supporting
materials. You will receive an acknowledgement of receipt of your application
on or before November 30, 2008 (or February 10, 2009 for the WDHOF/UMRI
applications). If you do not receive an acknowledgement, please send a
follow-up email to the same address.

The scholarship/training must begin within twelve months of the award. The
recipient will be required to submit a report at the completion of the
scholarship/training.

NOTE: All provided information (including postal/email addresses, phone
numbers, etc.) remains confidential and will be used only for correspondence
relating to this scholarship/training grant. Awards may be considered as
taxable income. WDHOF suggests that you consult with a tax advisor
(accountant) to determine how receipt of this scholarship/training grant
could impact your tax obligation. The recipient will be required to sign a
letter of agreement and a liability release form.
