Principal for Instruction, Tangela Kimber, Assistant Principal for Discipline,
and Assistant Principal Vince Denson, Assistant Principal for Discipline, who

the fall of the next school year.
A new student information system has been implemented by the county.

PTSA Budget Adoption
Michael Dowling reviewed the DHHS budget, fundraisers and expenditures.
Fundraisers include the Enrichment Fund, the DHHS Auction, the Suburban
Plaza Christmas tree sale and the Publix Rewards Program. New this year to
our fundraising efforts will be the Red Devil Fall Picnic to be held at Adams
Stadium on September 19, 2009, at 6:30 p.m. immediately prior to the
football game and the Druid Hills Discount Card.
Please join the PTSA as payment of dues adds to the income for our budget.
The enrollment at DHHS is approximately 1286 and our goal is PTSA
membership of 530.
Anticipated income for the year is approximately $25,342. The PTSA has a
carry over balance from last school year of approximately $8100.
Anticipated expenditures are approximately $27,000 and include student
agendas, the DHHS Advocate newsletter, Enrichment Fund projects and
expenses, Principal’s Fund, Hospitality Committee, Black History Month and
Academic Boosters (Honor Roll pizza lunch).
The Auditor’s Report was not presented due to a change in auditor. Faith
Levy has agreed to look over our records; the report should be submitted at
the September PTSA meeting.
The budget as presented was unanimously approved.
9th Grade Counselor Maura Pannier presented the evening’s program:
Freshman Facts – What freshmen want to know. Ms. Pannier stated that she
will meet with all incoming 9th grade students and their parents this
semester. She suggested emailing your students’ teachers at the beginning
of this year to establish communication and encourage parents to also check
teachers’ websites for homework assignments and other information.
Ms. Pannier introduced Media Specialist Kathleen Disney. Ms. Disney
discussed the DHHS Academic Yearbook and its requirements. The yearbook
is a part of the “High Schools That Work” program and includes a research
paper each year in one subject, 10 hours of service per year, student
resume, and 3 – 5 pieces of favorite work from each school year.
Ms. Pannier reminded parents that End of Course Tests (EOCT) will be given
early in the months of December and May for each semester. The EOCT will
count for 15% of students’ grades. The PSAT will be given in October. All
freshmen and sophomores take the PSAT. Juniors must register and pay for
the PSAT, which is the basis of National Merit Scholarship awards. All other
juniors who do not register for the PSAT will take a predictor test for the
Georgia high school graduation test. Students will get four chances to pass
the graduation test in Georgia. Seniors will job shadow for the PSAT testing
Much of the above information can be found in the DHHS PTSA Advocate
which was mailed to all DHHS student families immediately prior to the
beginning of the school year. Information can also be found on the DHHS
The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 p.m. The next PTSA meeting will be held
on Tuesday, September 8, 2009.
