DoD Directive 8570.1 New Horizons of New Mexico and West Texas What is DoD Directive 8570.1? • Result of Congress’ response to tragic events of September 11, 2001 • Developed by the Defense-Wide Information Assurance Program (DIAP) after the Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) was enacted into U.S. Federal Law on December 17, 2002 • Established In August 2004 by DoD Purpose of 8570.1 To reinforce computer and network security within the Federal Government and affiliated parties (such as government contractors) through a sustained, professional, IA workforce with the knowledge and skills to effectively prevent and respond to attacks against DoD information, information systems, and information infrastructures.
