FFA Members Break Ground on a New CHS Miracle of Birth and the Minnesota FFA Chapter
House and Leadership Center on the Minnesota State Fairgrounds

St. Paul, Minn. – April 23, 2006 – As part of Minnesota State FFA Convention activities, FFA

members from across the state participated in a ceremonial groundbreaking for the building of a new CHS

Miracle of Birth Center and Minnesota FFA Chapter House and Leadership Center on the Minnesota

State Fairgrounds.

The agricultural education facility, which will be ready for this year’s 2006 State Fair is being

funded in part by the efforts of FFA Chapters. “Our members are excited to assist in raising the funds to

build FFA’s new facility that will educate the fairgoer, but will also serve as a leadership training facility

throughout the year,” said Steve Hinrichs, Plainview FFA Agricultural Education Instructor. Chapters

have rallied around the effort to raise funds to build the new facility. Playing a major role in the success

of the fundraising effort has been FFA’s supporters from agricultural business and organizations.

Leadership gifts have been provided by: CHS, Christensen Farms, Energy Panel Structures, AgStar
Financial Services, Minnesota Corn Growers Association, Minnesota Soybean Growers’ Association,

Minnesota Pork Board and Rosen’s Inc.

The new facility will replace the current Miracle of Birth Center, which is extremely popular, but

far too small. In 2005, volunteer veterinarians and FFA youth leaders assisted with 160 deliveries of

calves, lambs and piglets during the 12-day run of the Minnesota State Fair.

FFA ties to the State Fair date back to 1948. “The Minnesota FFA Chapter House and Leadership

Center will offer meeting and educational space for Minnesota’s 180 FFA Chapters and Team AgEd,

which includes the Minnesota FFA Association and its nearly 9,000 members,” said Val Aarsvold,

executive director for the Minnesota FFA Foundation.

“Agriculture and education are at the very heart of Minnesota and the State Fair,” said Steve

Pooch, assistant manager for the State Fair. “Furthering youth leadership and agricultural education are a

big part of what we do. This facility will combine functions, more than triple the size of the present

complex and give more visitors the chance to see the animal birthing process.”

Project partners include the Minnesota FFA Foundation (501c3), Association and Alumni, the

Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association, the University of Minnesota School of Veterinary Medicine,

and the Minnesota State Fair Foundation (501c3). Miracle Underway is part of the Minnesota State Fair

Foundation’s Built to Last Campaign to improve State Fair buildings, grounds and educational programs.

Contributions may be sent to the State Fair Foundation at 1265 Snelling Avenue North, St. Paul,

MN 55108. Call the Minnesota State Fair Foundation at 651.632.2621 or the Minnesota FFA Foundation
