Mount Tabor High School
Exam Information
June 2011
Q: When will exams be administered?
A: Final exams will be administered from June 3 (June 2 for seniors) through June 14.
NC EOC (End of Course) exams and retests will be administered by subject, not by period, during
morning sessions.
Teacher-made and CTE exams will be administered by period, during afternoon sessions.
Senior teacher-made and CTE exams for June 10, 13, and 14 will be moved to June 2 – 3.
We will run a normal schedule for grades 9 – 11 on June 2, and pull out seniors for their exams.
Senior exams on June 2 & 3 will be administered in the Media Center.
Q: Which classes have EOC exams?
A: EOC exams are taken in the following classes:
Biology
Physical Science
English 1
Algebra 1
Algebra 2
Integrated Math 3 (Algebra 2 EOC)
Civics and Economics
US History
Q: Who takes EOC Retests?
A: All students who achieve a Level 1 or Level 2 on an EOC Exam will take a retest. Parents may opt out of
retesting if their student scores a Level 1.
Q: What happens if my child's EOC Retest conflicts with another exam?
A: The student must take the EOC Retest at the scheduled time, and take the other exam during the afternoon
makeup session on June 14.
Q: What about seniors who need to retest?
A: Senior retests will be individually scheduled for the mornings of June 8 -10.
Q: If my child is proficient on an EOC, does he/she need to come to school for the retest?
A: Students who are proficient on EOCs do not need to attend the retest. They should plan to attend the class
period review at that time. Students who are not present will be counted as absent. Students who are
present will be supervised during the exam period.
Q: If my child is proficient on an EOC, does he/she need to come to school for the morning review
session or the afternoon exam time for that class period, later in the exam window?
A: No. For example, if a student has 5th period Algebra II, and is proficient on the EOC on Friday, June 3, he
does not need to attend his 5th period review on Monday morning, or the exam time on Tuesday afternoon,
but he will still be counted absent.
Q: If a student doesn't have an EOC exam, what kind of exam will he/she take?
A: Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes will have North Carolina VOCAT exams. All other classes
will have teacher-made exams.
Q: Can my child take exams early?
A: No exams will be administered before the exam window begins on June 3 (June 2 for seniors). No exams
may be administered during morning review sessions, or before or after the regular school day.
Q: What happens if my child is absent from an exam?
A: Missed exams may be made up the afternoon of June 14 or later that week. EOC exams may be able to be
made up during a retest period. Any retesting would then need to occur after June 14. Parents are strongly
urged not to schedule appointments for students during the school day during the exam window.
Q: What happens if my child is late on an exam day?
A: Students will not be admitted late to an exam. Missed exams may be made up after June 14.
Q: Can my child leave class and sign out as soon as he/she is finished with the exam?
A: No. Students must remain in the exam room until the entire class is dismissed. Parents are strongly urged
not to schedule appointments for students during the school day during the exam window.
Q: How much do exams count?
A: Exams count as 25% of the final grade in all courses. Students will not receive credit for a class with an
End of Course exam if they do not take the exam.
Q: What is the difference between yearlong and block classes?
A: Yearlong courses began in August; class meets for one class period all year. Block courses began in
January; class meets for two class periods during the second semester.
Q: Since block classes meet for two periods, when do they have their exams?
A: Non-EOC block courses will take exams during the even period exam time. For example, block classes
that meet during third and fourth periods will take the exam during fourth period exam time.
Q: What will be happening in non-EOC classes during EOC exams/review periods?
A: Teachers will be continuing instruction, either teaching new material or reviewing for the exam.
Q: What if my child misses a review session?
A: They will be counted absent, unless they are taking an EOC. Normal procedures for excusing absences will
apply. Students should contact teachers about making up work missed.
Q: What about senior exam exemptions?
A: The last day to count senior absences for exemptions is June 1. Teachers will be continuing instruction
during the exam window, and students will be responsible for making up any work missed due to absences.
Q: On June 14, after the fourth period exam period is over, may my child leave school?
A: Yes—if they have their own transportation, and they do not need to make up an exam in the afternoon.
Buses will run at the normal time (3:40 PM). Students who remain on campus will be supervised until
then.
