JEFFREY L. McCLAFLIN, Industrial Hygienist Mr. McClaflin was born in Haverhill, Massachusetts. He now resides in Boothwyn, Pennsylvania with his wife and their two children. His career path toward safety and health began early; by high school graduation, he was a trained Volunteer Fire Fighter, Maryland State Emergency Medical Technician and Red Cross Water Safety Instructor. In 1985, Mr. McClaflin attended a semester program with the National Outdoor Leadership School headquartered in Lander, Wyoming and in 1986; he graduated from Salisbury State College, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and a minor in Biology. Just prior to graduation, Mr. McClaflin started working full time with Aerosol Monitoring and Analysis of Delmarva as an Industrial Hygiene Associate and in the fall of 1987 moved to Pennsylvania as the Industrial Hygiene Manager of Aerosol Monitoring and Analysis of Pennsylvania. In May of 1989, Mr. McClaflin accepted a position as an Industrial Hygienist at the Naval Hospital Philadelphia. In 1990, he was accepted for the position of Industrial Hygienist and Laboratory Manager at the GS-12 level. Naval Hospital Philadelphia eventually closed with its industrial hygiene assets moving to the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Maryland. Mr. McClaflin continues to work for the National Naval Medical Center at its Philadelphia Clinic providing Industrial Hygiene services to the local Navy Commands. For the past six years, Mr. McClaflin has also been in the forefront of the Defense Occupational Environmental Health Readiness System – Industrial Hygiene (DOEHRS-IH) software development project. He is a functional representative for Navy Industrial Hygiene, and is an active member in various working groups dealing with the many facets of the system. Mr. McClaflin is a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, a member of the New Jersey Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT-NJ1), the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists, and the National Fire Protection Association. Mr. McClaflin’s personal decorations and awards included: National Naval Medical Center’s (NNMC’s) Senior Civilian of the Quarter – First Quarter 2000, NNMC’s Senior Civilian of the Year, 2000 and recipient of the Chief of Naval Operations Safety and Occupational Health Shore Safety Award 2002.
