Whether your child loves to build things or destroy them, this week of camp includes lots of both! The junior Mad Science engineers will
design and build Bridges and “Skyscrapers” and even construct a Geodesic Dome big enough for all the campers to sit inside! Then the
machine madness starts… This journey will include many different machines, simple & complex, we use in our daily lives. Campers will have
fun building their very own Catapults, Sonic Race Car and much more to take home from this Awesome Camp! Catapult yourself to New

Have you always wanted to play a musical instrument, but never got around to it? Have you ever sat in the audience at a concert and wished

make all those wishes come true because ANYONE CAN PLAY THE VIOLIN!!!

                                            Your life in art!
Everyone loves looking through pictures of family and friends, pets, events and vacations—and in this course you will learn how to display
your own favorite pictures and keepsakes in a more beautiful and unique way than you’ve ever imagined! During this week-long course,
students will create their own scrapbook with a theme of whatever they choose. We will discuss how to design the layout of a scrapbook as a
whole, and of each page specifically, as well as how to choose fun and interesting colors, embellishments, stickers and fonts to enhance the
page. Students will learn to use an artistic eye to design and create, all the while having fun making something that can be enjoyed for years
to come!

Students will learn how to make five different healthy and delicious dinners from Roasted Pork Loin with Mashed Potatoes to Mexican
Chicken with Rice. At the end of each class, students will take home a dinner for four people. No need for parents to make dinner this week;
your child’s got it covered with Chef Warvolis!

Learn how to design and create fused glass necklaces and window hangings using colored fusing glass. Students will be able to create a
slumped dish or bowl as well as learning about glass compatibility, powdered and chunky frit, and creating designs using colored glass
sheets. With demonstrations and hands-on projects, participants explore the unique qualities of this media. Students should provide their
own safety glasses.

   9th-12th                                 SAT MATH Prep                                                   Dana Newbury
The SAT mathematics preparatory course is designed to address all mathematics content on the SAT. The topics covered include numbers
and operations, algebra and functions, geometry and measurement, data analysis, statistics and probability. Students will see topics
leading up through Algebra II. They will learn how to approach math questions different ways and take several timed practice math
sections. Tips and hints will be provided for common SAT problems. Most of the students enrolled in this course will improve their over SAT
score in just one week!

Think you know movies? Are you the person in the movie theatre that explains the film to your friends? If you view movies as more than just
entertainment but as a reflection of our society then this course is produced for you. If you are going to spend your summer watching
movies anyway, gain a new perspective by watching and discussing films with others who share your passion. From the classics to
western’s, gangster’s to romantic comedies and animated films to sports films you will experience the true wonder of the movies this
summer! So get your popcorn ready and we will see you this summer!

Got college on the brain? Looking for a way to write a fabulous essay to make yourself stand out to a prospective college? Come learn about
what colleges are learning for and how to approach the personal statement required for admission. This class won’t be your typical sit-
down-and-lecture class, but will involve interaction with peers, one-on-one time with teachers and discussions about future plans. Ms. Jamie
Meeker, an English teacher at MHS and Mrs. Michele Caltiere, a Special Education and English teacher at MHS both have experience
teaching seniors and the college essay writing process. Imagine having your essay done in one week’s time and starting the school year
stress-free!

Want to have your cake and eat it too? Experience the excitement of designing and decorating all sorts of desserts! Step by step, you will
learn a variety of different tools and strategies to use while decorating your desserts. Students will begin practicing with smaller desserts,
and will later conclude the week with their very own design and decorations on larger cakes. Last but not least, you will be able to share
your delicious results with family and friends!

   4th-8th                                Learn to play guitar                                               David Gordon
Have you always wanted to play the guitar? Now is your chance! You’ll learn all the notes on the guitar and how to play the most common
chords. More importantly, you’ll have the basic skills you need to continue on as a guitarist. By the end of the week, you’ll be able to play
several familiar tunes and will be able to strum along with some classic rock songs. Guitars will be provided (or bring your own if you
prefer).

   5th- 7th                         Movie Maker Tribute Videos                                             Robert Skibinski
Using the Windows XP Movie Maker program, students will create their own music video or tribute movie. Students will scan and/or download
images, import music, create title slides, edit, transition, and apply video special effects to create their own video. This is a great project and
 skill that can be used on any Windows XP computer with free software. The videos make great gifts for the whole family! Previous projects
 included tributes to Broadway, Baseball, Dance, America and 9/11, plus many personalized family projects. This course will allow students
to master skills essential for students interested in taking the Television Productions course at UMS or the High School.

   6th- 9th                             Intro To Woodworking                                                Jamie Mulligan
The Introduction to Woodworking course is a hands-on course that covers the basic concepts of            woodworking and furniture making. This one-
week course is a combination of demonstrations and          hands-on practice in woodworking. General shop safety and the use of common
power woodworking machines will be clearly explained. The course will concentrate on using the scroll saw, bandsaw, drill press, lathe and
hand tools for learners new to woodworking. Students will utilize the skills, techniques and tools (both power and hand-tools) being taught
 in the class in the making of a piece of furniture. Students will turn a pen/pencil set on the lathe, bend wood for an oval box and construct a Shaker
end table. Students will be using exotic woods for turning and premium furniture woods, cherry and black walnut, for the table. Skills
learned in this course will provide a strong foundation for future woodworking and furniture making experiences.

code language to send secret messages as part of your mission. Go undercover and decode messages from other agents using your top
secret clearance. Join the Mad Science Bureau of Investigation to gain observational skills that are necessary for the job. Take home
projects include a detective kit, secret decoder, fingerprint kit and much more! This Camp is 00-Awesome!

Super Science will bring out the curiosity in every child as campers explore
nature. Children will explore the excitement of the rainforest, ocean, and backyard as they learn about these wonders of the world. Each
day children will get to experience nature through hands-on activities such as arts and crafts, experiments, stories and exploration. Using
recycled materials, household materials and the great outdoors to complete activities, children will learn the importance of taking care of
our planet. Children will enjoy playing with friends as they go on nature walks, plant seeds and participate in activities that bring them
closer to planet Earth!

Everyday we face many decisions that we need to make. Some decisions are easy to make (such as what to have for breakfast) and others
require more thought. Sometimes making the best choice is not always obvious. Decision making is skill and with practice we can learn to
make the best possible decisions. This course introduces a process for how to make informed decisions and will provide many opportunities
for practice.

Take apart your favorite stories without ripping out the pages. Beyond Books allows students to explore different elements of Language Arts from
basic sound-letter correspondence and sentence structure to character development and the creation of their own creative texts. Foster an

Do you like to have fun? Bring your family game night right to school. We will be playing games like “Apples to Apples,” “Jenga,”

group.

                    Baseball Statistics/Sabermetrics
Do you enjoy baseball? Statistics? Math? Do you know what WARP, PERA, and LIPS mean? If not, sign up for “Moneyball!” This course will be an
introduction to baseball sabermetics. Each day will have a different focus and theme, so your child will be able to analyze the true
 performance of both past award winners and their favorite players. Bring your favorite cards and a calculator to perform
“choice” comparisons. We will have access to computers to look up basic information as well. ***Students will be broken into different
 groups based on age and ability to understand the basic math. Different activities will be offered based on interest and grade.***

   6th-12th       From Alpha to Omega: It’s All Greek                                         Brian Beyer

Do you have an interest in the language and culture of ancient Greece? This one week course will explore the history of the written word in
ancient Greece, focusing on the following questions:
        Where did alphabetic writing originate? What was revolutionary about it?
        Who was Homer? Did he really exist? Was he really blind? Were Homer's Iliad and Odyssey originally written or spoken?
        Why was the New Testament written in Greek?
        Did Roman historians write in Latin or Greek?
       Students will receive a practical introduction to the pronunciation of ancient Greek, the Greek alphabet, and some basic mechanics
       of the language. By the fourth week, participants will read an actual paragraph of ancient Greek (heavily adapted from Greek
       comedy).

   5th-12th         Solving the Rubix Cube & Other                                            Keith Fritz
                            Famous Puzzles
_Believe it or not, everyone can solve the Rubik’s Cube… and some people can solve it really fast! Even better, some can solve it one-handed
or even blindfolded! This course will teach you how to solve the cube even if you’ve never picked one up. It’ll also show you how to solve it
 fast. And, yes, you’ll even how to solve it blindfolded. Having learned these skills, we will also venture into the world of other
 famous Tavern Puzzles such as the “Old Shackles” and “The Devil’s Needle”. Students are encouraged to bring their own puzzles as well. The overal
course will focus on the various skills and methods of puzzle solving.

Do you love sports and watch “Sportscenter” five times a day? Or do you dismiss sports simply as silly games? No matter which end of the
spectrum you fall, you cannot deny the enduring social impact of sports on our lives today. From reading engaging articles and participating in
riveting discussion to watching hilarious comedians and some of our favorite sports movies we will analyze through a sociological scope the role th
sport plays in society. Our issues will include the philosophy of youth sports, race in sports and gender in sports.

Who says the older kids are the only ones who get to perform? In this camp, kids entering grades 1-4 will have a blast singing, dancing and
acting as they prepare a performance of “E-I-E-I OOPS!” This 20-minute show tells the story of how all the animals on the farm work
together to save the day when they find out that Mr. Cow just can’t MOO!

If you enjoy playing with clay, then you will truly love working with fondant. Not only can you roll it out, cut shapes, make imprints, form
flowers, and other creative designs but you can eat it too! Fondant is easy to use when decorating cakes of all shapes and sizes. Your cakes
will look like you’ve been decorating for years after learning a few simple techniques.

This week long camp is designed to introduce Grade 6, 7, 8 students into the world of robotics. Students will have the opportunity to build
and program a robot to autonomously compete in a series of challenges based on real world issues. The Lego Mindstorm Robotics System
will be utilized in this course. Students will be divided into 4 member teams and will learn to work together using team building activities.

as a water powered turbine illuminating a light bulb, fuel cells cars demonstrating efficiency, and the combined power of electricity and
magnetism to create the world’s simplest motor. Children will also build their very own electromagnet to take home. Students will
discover renewable energy sources, such as the sun and wind, where they will build and test individual solar hot dog cookers and their own

Deep down, everyone is a writer. Writers express the observations, beliefs, fears, hopes and dreams that we all have but may not be able
express through speaking. Join us in this encouraging, comfortable atmosphere where we explore the wonderful world of writing. We will
read published poems, vignettes, editorials, short stories – and we will write our own. If you like sharing your writing, you may do that, and
if you prefer to keep it private, that’s fine, too. You will finish this week a more aware, skilled writer, with a Writer’s Notebook that can be
the start of a journal you will keep forever.

                             of the Ancient Battlefield
Do you have an interest in the history of Sparta and other ancient Greece city-states? This one week course will explore the following
questions:
        Who were the Spartans?
        What were their methods of warfare? What made them so effective?
        Did Spartan children really join the army at age seven?
        Did 300 Spartans really hold off 300,000 Persians?
        Did anyone ever defeat the Spartans in pitched battle?
          Were the Athenians any match for the Spartans?
          How did Philip of Macedon defeat the Greek city-states?

       This course will also explore the portrayal of the Spartans in popular culture (such as in Frank Miller’s 300), and discuss what was
       historical about these portrayals as well as what was fanciful about them.

and focus on the most widely covered mathematical concepts on the test, and then practice using strategies to succeed on the SAT. Expect

most renowned children’s authors of our time. His stories are epic and have the ability to capture the attention of any
audience. Let us help your child struggle less with reading and develop a passion for words and literacy, while motivating them to be a
prolific writer, just like Dr. Seuss. So if Yertle, Sneetches, or the Lorax mean anything to you come join us this summer. We will explore the
wonderful world of Dr. Seuss using his stories and characters as inspiration be better readers and writers.

The SAT verbal class is structured to address all aspects of the Critical Reading and Writing sections of the new SAT. The topics covered
include recognizing common grammar errors, using vocabulary in context and utilizing critical reading techniques. Students also practice
and study high frequency SAT words and additional vocabulary enhancement is promoted through learning Latin and Greek prefixes,
suffixes and roots. In preparation for the essay, the students are taught to write competently according to the College Board’s rubric.The
course begins with a diagnostic which is then used to teach students techniques. A wide variety of resources and materials are used to
provide students with ample practice and a strong emphasis is placed on timed drills utilizing actual SAT tests

These girls will teach students about immigration, pioneers, equality and women’s rights! As we read about their inspiring tales, we will explore some
awesome hobbies of girls living during their era. Get ready to make beeswax candles, sew a simple toy and tie-dye a stylish shirt. Students will
share their own special dolls from home on the last day of class, as we celebrate our learning with a tea party!
