					    Dr. Gaye Lang
      Project Manager

      Biography
Dr. Lang is responsible for the overall project management of HISD's Virtual School.

The Virtual School provides course instruction/delivery via the Internet including
audio/visual formats in real time. Dr. Lang has worked to expand educational offerings to
students at a distance. This has resulted in increased parental involvement and has
broadened the base for student learning.

The Virtual School provides solutions for both traditional and non-traditional students,
while addressing teacher availability and/or school capacity issues. In addition, the web-
based learning environment presents hands-on training opportunities for the project's
teaching staff. This alternative method of instruction delivery serves to enhance the
educational environment of staff and students within the Houston Independent School
District.

Specific duties include:
 Design, develop, and monitor project implementation plans, and procedures
 Coordinate scheduling and project system testing
 Document project systems; including demonstrations, training, and resolution of
questions and problems related to project goals and objectives
 Conduct meetings, report project status, and communicate the overall progress as the
    project develops and is implemented.
Dr. Lang has over 25 years of work experience in public school administration including
urban and multicultural settings. In addition to serving as Project Manager for HISD's
Virtual School, she is also employed as a part-time Adjunct Professor of Educational
Leadership and Cultural Studies at the University of Houston. Dr. Lang has established a
strong record of success and believes that the skills that attained these results can be
applied positively to increase the achievement level of students who are enrolled in the
Virtual School online courses curriculum.

                         PERSONAL STATEMENT

My personal and professional objectives encompass the belief that I should utilize
my skills and abilities to maximize teaching and learning. I have been committed to
acquiring high academic training and other educational experiences to be used to
stimulate, motivate, and educate others. My greatest concern is to help teachers and
students to become the best they can be and to perform according to their highest
capabilities.

As a teacher and educator, I believe that maximum teaching and learning can take
place in an environment that is conducive to learning. Such an environment should be
attractive, pleasant and stimulating. In addition, there should be materials, equipment and
teaching aids of the finest quality.

I am particularly interested in developing a more educated, culturally diverse
society whose members can live and work together harmoniously. As we begin to think
about the educational requirements of the new millennium, I believe that we will be more
involved in a global society because of the Internet and other technologies and
transportation as it relates to communication. We must be able to understand, accept, and
tolerate the culture of others. Students must be well prepared to compete successfully
with groups from various parts of the world. Therefore, emphasis should be placed on
learning experiences involving technology, social skills, and written and oral language
skills. The Virtual School Project stands poised and ready to serve. We are on the cutting
edge of 21st century educational mandates.

Your interest and participation is always welcome here!
